>From The Oak Ridger 18 Jul 2007 Mrs. Addie Ruth Hobbs Chambles Charmian Edlin Cohn Madeleine A. "Lynn" Kenney, Marjorie C. Pearson, Orland C. Smitherman, 85, of Oak Ridge, James Robert Weir Jr., age 74, of Knoxville, Anzel Farley Jr., 76, a resident of Oliver Springs, Mrs. Addie Ruth Hobbs Chambles was born April 28, 1917, to the late Rev. Lewis Jackson Hobbs and the late Carrie Bell Rispers Hobbs in Thomaston (Upson County), Ga. She passed away on July 14, 2007, at the Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge, Tenn. She was blessed to celebrate her 90th birthday in April with family and friends. Mrs. Chambles was married to the late Henry Chambles for 54 years. They had three boys and one girl. She spent most of her life in the Fellowship and the Lincoln Park communities in Thomaston, Ga. She had been a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Upson County, Ga., since she was very young. Due to declining health, she moved to Oak Ridge, Tenn., in 1996 to be close to her son and daughter-in-law. She enjoyed gardening, housekeeping, and interacting with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; brother, P. J. Hobbs; sisters, Annie Lee Hobbs Jones, Johnnie Mae Hobbs Hammel, Timmie Hobbs Durham, and Theresa Hobbs Anderson; sons, Willie Henry Chambles, and Johnny Alton Chambles: and daughter-in-law, Christine Taylor Chambles. Mrs. Chambles is survived by her son, Aldene (Clara) Chambles of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; daughter, Sandra Faye Chambles of Thomaston, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Martha Chambles of Thomaston, Ga.; sister-in-law, Cora Lee Cox of Washington, D.C.; and brother-in-law, John Chambles of Trenton, N.J. She is survived by grandchildren, Tammie (Keith) Johnson of Hampton, Va.; Wanda Chambles, Willie Henry Chambles Jr., and Cathy Chambles, all of Thomaston, Ga.; Christopher Chambles of Harvest, Ala.; and Eric (Melanie) Chambles of St. Petersburg, Fla. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Fellowship Baptist Church, Thurston School Road, Thomaston (Upson County), GA 30286. Charmian Edlin Cohn died July 16, 2007. She was the beloved wife of the late Waldo E. Cohn; dear mother and mother-in-law of Marcus (Francine) Cohn and Dunell (Linda) Cohn; dear grandmother of Benjamin Cohn and Barton (Karen) Cohn, Jesse (Darlene) Cohn and Gabriel (Jessica Taft) Cohn; and dear great-grandmother of Rosa Sophia Cohn. She was our dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend. A private family service will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Berger Memorial Chapel, St. Louis, Mo., is in charge of arrangements. Madeleine A. "Lynn" Kenney, born Aug. 12, 1943, died Monday, July 16, 2007. A native of Quincy, Mass., Lynn moved from Clinton, Tenn., to Tallahassee, Fla., in 1991. She was an active member of Big Bend Time Keepers, which is a local chapter of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. She was a member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Quincy, Mass. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Kenney. Other survivors include two children, Steve (Cynthia) Kenney of Knoxville, Tenn., and Tamera Greene (Daniel) of Greeneville, Tenn.; one sister, Louise Marshall of Quincy, Mass.; one brother, John A. Caporale Jr. of Quincy, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara A. Chiasson, in 2003. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Fla. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pearson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wonderful friend, went to be with her Lord and savior on Sunday, July 15, 2007. She is survived by her five loving daughters, Patricia Cappiello, Barbara Cappiello Scott Davis and her husband, Tom, Linda Isabell and her husband, Dale, Deborah Brackin, and Dana Moyers and her husband, Clif; nine grandchildren, Troy Purcell and his wife, Lara, Scotty Scott and his wife, Judy, Curtis Isabell and his wife, Melanie, Christi Isabell, Breony Moyers, Kelsey Moyers, Chad Isabell and fianc e, Kristi Cardwell, Jade Scott Krauss and husband, Charles, and Kelly Scott Porter and husband, Jeremy; nine great-grandchildren, Luke Purcell, Eli Purcell, Connor Isabell, Lynzey Scott, Ronnie Scott, Zephany Krauss, Zadrian Krauss, Presleigh Porter, and Zoe Porter; and her sister, Dorothy Peace. She was predeceased in death by her husband, O.W. Pearson; father, and mother, Ruben Edward and Etta Louise Houston; a brother, Ted Houston; a sister, Betty Prince; and a stepdaughter, Irene Cappiello. Marjorie was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church of Clinton, where in earlier years she played piano for her children's Sunday school assemblies and in other areas of the church. She also played for her children's dance classes. Marjorie worked at Magnet Mills for a short time and retired from a long career with the Department of Energy. She formerly read to kindergarten children at school. She was very active in the Clinton Chapter of Eastern Star, where she was for many years Worthy Matron and served as a Grand Representative for Michigan. Most recently, she was the secretary for her chapter and played the piano for many chapters. She also served as Mother Advisor to the Rainbow Girls. She played the piano for AARP and wrote their newsletter for over 17 years. Marjorie was a big fan and ticket holder for the Lady Vols. She was a member of Red Hatters. She was loved and admired by all who knew her. She touched many lives with her sweetness, compassion, energy, and zest for living. Her heart was her family and she amazed all with her will to live. Her devoted family feels blessed to have been part of her remarkable life. Her beautiful spirit will live on in all who loved her so very much. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Clinton First Baptist Church with the Eastern Star service at 8 p.m. and a celebration of her life service to follow with the Rev. Stan Elliott officiating. Her burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to American Heart Association. Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements. Orland C. Smitherman, 85, of Oak Ridge, passed away at his home, July 16, 2007. Mr. Smitherman was the son of Roy C. and Clara Wallace Smitherman (both deceased) of the Antioch community near Centreville, in Bibb County, Ala., where he grew up during the Great Depression years. He graduated from the Bibb County Public Schools in 1940 where he was a football standout in high school, and was awarded a football scholarship to the University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn., while Sewanee was still a member of the Southeastern Conference. He earned a B. S. degree in physics from Sewanee in 1944 and because of wartime priorities, came directly to Oak Ridge to participate in the Manhattan Project. He began his employment in Oak Ridge as a physicist with the Tennessee Eastman Company at Y-12. After approximately one year he transferred to the Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Company of Union Carbide Corporation and worked the remainder of his career at the K-25 Plant. He worked there as a physicist and in various managerial positions until his retirement from the Martin Marietta Corporation in 1984. He was a longtime member of Glenwood Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Howington Smitherman. He is survived by his wife, Yonnie Tallant Smitherman; a daughter, Ea Jo Smitherman; a brother, Roy Smitherman and his wife, June, all of Oak Ridge; three sisters, Essie Mae Smitherman of Dothan, Ala., Gail Butts, of Denver, Colo., Joy Sheppard, of Marietta, Ga.; five nieces, three nephews; and a number of great-nieces and nephews, and three stepchildren; six stepgrandchildren, and a number of step great-grandchildren. A private burial was held at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at Glenwood Baptist Church in Oak Ridge at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007. James Robert Weir Jr., age 74, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, June 11, 2007, at Baptist Hospital West. He was born Dec. 29, 1932, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of James Robert Weir Sr. and Kathleen Lawson Weir. He is survived by five sons: James Robert III, David Jeffrey, Joseph Todd, Patrick Allen and Scott Anthony, who love and miss him. He is also survived by two sisters, Judy Weir Goode and Kathy Weir Dickey. Mr. Weir worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 39 years until his retirement in 1994. The last 20 years, he served as associate director and director of the Metals and Ceramics Division. During his tenure, he was the recipient of the E.O. Lawrence Award. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1955 in metallurgical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and his master's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1962. Mr. Weir was an avid sailor for more than 40 years. He was a member and past commodore of the Concord Yacht Club and successfully competed in numerous regattas in many classes of boats throughout the Southeast region. He was also instrumental in the early development of the sailing education programs at the club. Mr. Weir enjoyed acting with the Oak Ridge Playhouse and he was an avid singer with barbershop quartets in younger years. In keeping with Mr. Weir's wishes, his body was cremated. Anzel Farley Jr., 76, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
