Ms. McMahon taught music in the Oak Ridge public school system for over 40 years. She taught for many years at Glenwood Elementary and ended her career at Willowbrook in 1990. Ms. McMahon was a dedicated and energetic teacher known for staging large scale productions such as Peter Pan and the Wizard of Oz. Ms. McMahon was born December 12, 1932 in Manchester, GA to the late John M. and Carrie Benning Purvis and attended college at Young Harris in North Georgia and received her masters degree from the University of Tennessee in 1972. She married Walter McMahon in 1953 and shortly after moved to Oak Ridge. They had two children, Annagaye McMahon Gash and Chris McMahon. Ms. McMahon was preceded in death by her daughter in 1990 and her husband in 1996. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville, TN, and an active member of the Knoxville Choral Society for many years. He retired in 1996 while serving as pastor of 5th Avenue Baptist Church of Knoxville. Previously, he served as Minister of Music at 1st Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge. Rev. Parker began his ministry serving churches in Kentucky and Virginia before accepting the call to missionary service through the Southern Baptist Convention. While on the mission field in Brazil, he started numerous churches, founded the Baptist Conservatory of Music in Fortaleza, Cear�, Brazil, and taught at the Baptist Theological Seminary in Rio de Janeiro. While on leave from the mission field, he founded and pastored University Baptist Church of Bloomington, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Curtis and Floride Parker of Knoxville; and brother, James C! urtis Parker. Mr. Williams was born on October 26, 1930 in Harlan Kentucky. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oak Ridge. Mr. Williams was retired from the Y-12 plant, where he was employed in the maintenance division for twenty-five years as an instrument mechanic and electrician. Mr. Williams served two tours in the Navy, from 1946-47 and 1951-54, first as a torpedoman on a submarine base, then as a signalman on the battleship USS Wisconsin. He was especially proud of his service on the Wisconsin, and visited the ship at its Norfolk base several years ago. He was also a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Williams was a longtime member of the Toastmasters Club in Oak Ridge, the Belles and Beaus Square Dance Club and the Oak Ridge Tennis Club. After retirement Mr. Williams was active in maintenance and electrical work at Grace Lutheran Church. He also worked w! ith the church food pantry. He was well-known for his abilities as a chef, and for the beautiful roses that he tended lovingly. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Hamilton Williams and Gladys Lucille Williams, and by his brother Jack.
