HAMBY, THURMAN, age 87, of New Castle, (Indiana) passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born April 2, 1923 in Glenmary, Tennessee to the late Sylvester and Bertha (Griffith) Hamby. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle following over 30 years of service. Thurman was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church. Thurman displayed many qualities that make an outstanding citizen and volunteer. He made the children of Westminister Community Center feel as if they are number one in his eyes in numerous ways. Thurman had a huge heart and a lot of love to give and share with everyone. He was a fix-it guy that tinkered with automobiles, sewing machines, and lawn mowers. Thurman was a pilot and enjoyed flying with his family and friends. Survivors include his sister, Thelma Thomas of Wartburg, TN; brother, Hallard (wife, Iola) Hamby of Wartburg, TN; numerous special nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie (Booher) Hamby; three brothers, SV” Sylvester Hamby, Herman Hamby and Harlen Hamby; three sisters, Glenice Boyles, Marie Holder and Geneva Maden. Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Marie’s greatest joy in life was swimming, which allowed her to be free from her physical limitations. She was baptized on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2010, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wartburg. She is survived by her parents: Bill and Margaret Messer of Wartburg; one sister, Marie Masferrer and husband, Marc of Bradenton, Fl; one brother, Andrew Messer and wife, Abbie; and two nephews, Judson and Samuel Messer, all of Crawfordville, Fl.
