Julie, The one we found is actually before (approx. 1/4 mile) you get to the cemetery you speak about. My husband just bought a GPS for the reason of marking the grave's locations on our family tree. This will also help others find the locations of previously "hard-to-find" gravesites. Theresa This is possibly the Jackson-Lyles Cemetery. The cemetery books says it is: "South of Coalfield, off Fairview Rd, turn right on Solomon Hollow Rd. Proceed app. 1.1 mile, turn left, travel app .1 mile & bear left as the road circles the cemetery. The cemetery was originally started at the first left turn off Solomon Hollow Rd. as the twinsof Horace & Flora Ward are buried in the left corner of the field. Later Staples Jackson & Lindsey Lyles each donated 1/2 the land on the top of the hill for the cemetery. Later in 1952 or 1953 Crass & Shirley Russell donated the land for the road around the cemetery. There are app. 18 unmarked graves in the cemetery." Look to be quite a large cemetery from the number of names listed in the book. I THINK, but am not sure that there are crews at the prison that do this kind of clean up.. I know they do cemetery mowing in the warmer months. Hope this helps! It was off Fairview Road (coming through Coalfield), then we turned up Solomon Hollow Road. It's an overgrown cemetery that 25 years ago was bought my Annetta Watson and her husband Bob. Bob told us that the former owners had an agreement with the Brushy Mountain Prisoner Detail that they would take care of it, but Bob hadn't seen them since they've been there. He had tried for several years to take care of it, but now it's fallen into bad disrepair. The stones are almost all down, but for a few Liles stones we could find. And, Oh The Chiggers! Hope this helps. Hi Teresa, I have the Morgan County Cemetery books I & II and they do have directions to a lot of older cemeteries. I was surprised because there would be one grave behind a barn somewhere and that was listed! Those books are great because living in Germany, I can't just hop in my car to find these graves! Julie...please tell the Kries family how much I really appreciate their very hard work!!! ~ Tina Armes Pieplow ~ ________________________________ From: Theresa B. <tbnglobal@gmail.com> To: tnmorgan@rootsweb.com Sent: Thu, December 16, 2010 10:04:52 PM Subject: Re: [TNMORGAN] Morgan County cemetery book Julie, Are these books something that Ralph and I could use in trying to locate some of the older and unkempt cemeteries in Morgan County? We tracked down an older cemetery that had Solomons (we think that it was called either the Solomon or Hicks Graveyard). Let me know what you think.
