    3. April 25-30 is designated History Week in Fentress County, TN with a day of Roundup on Saturday the 30th. There will be activities throughout the week related to the theme The Civil War in Fentress County in commemoration of the Sesquicentennial Celebration of the beginning of the Civil War. Tuesday and Wednesday there will be a demonstration and display of the Secret Quilt Code used in the mid-eighteen hundreds to assist runaway slaves. Activities will take place in the York Elementary School Library on Tuesday and Wednesday during the day for students. Beginning at 6:00 on Tuesday evening the public is invited to attend. Sessions will last about 1-1/2 hours. Starting at 1 pm on Wednesday at the Court house, 3 historical buildings that are over 100 years old each will be identified with historic markers. A brief history of each building will be given at the ceremony. A Seminar on "Finding Your Civil War Ancestors" will occur at 1 pm Thursday in the conference room of the library. On Friday evening at 6 pm a workshop will be held at the Latter Day Saints Church on using York's Fentress County database with opportunity to see if your ancestors are in the database. Throughout the week Monday - Friday, the "Ye Ole Jail Museum" will be having an open house across from the courthouse. The Roundup on Saturday is from 9 am -3 pm, with about 10 author displays, three neighboring historical society displays, two visiting Civil War Veterans groups who will tell stories and explain weapons, show artifacts, etc., and 30-40 historical society Civil War related displays. Free lunch, drinks and snacks to registered attenders. We invite everyone to consider coming out to view displays, listen to demonstrations and stories, and talk Civil War with others present. This is our 21st year to have the Roundup, and it all just keeps getting better. Willie R.     3. — WOODS, AMOS HOUSTON, age 78, of Ten Mile, Tenn., passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, as the result of a tragic accident. Born Dec. 28, 1932, he was the son of the late Rev. M.L. Woods and wife, Arizona Reeves Woods. Mr. Woods was a member of the Church of God and a veteran of the Army Military Police. Amos was a wonderful husband, Daddy, Poppy and Pappaw. He will be greatly missed by all, but it will be Heaven's gain. After serving in the U.S. Army, he and his wife lived in Indiana. In the early 1970s, he operated Woods Shoe Repair in Knoxville. After that he operated the Southern Railways Dormitory and Restaurant in Oakdale, Tenn., for more than 20 years. For the past 22 years he helped operate Woods Shoe Repair in Oak Ridge. Mr. Woods was an avid bowler, loved the outdoors, and fishing. His dedication to his family and faith was recognized and will be remembered by all who knew him. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Omis and Andy Woods; and sisters, Daytona Turner and Cora Morris. He is survived by his wife of more than 57 years, Jo Ann Porter Woods of Ten Mile; daughters, Sherry Foster and husband, David, of Knoxville, and Phyllis Bandy and husband, David, of Harriman; grandchildren, Kristi and Jeremy Akers, David and Robin Bandy, Chad and Keri Tarwater, David and Candice Foster, Amy and Evan Hutcheson, Rebekah and Craig Gray, Jeremiah and Carrie Tarwater; and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Enis Woods, Ernest Woods and wife, Barbara, and Marcus Woods and wife, Barbara; sisters, Alice Woods Watson and Agnes McClellan and husband, Pat. Your particular ones are not listed, but you might find some other family members there. That could lead you to your gg-grandparents, then. Also, have you contacted the County Clerk in Morgan County?     3. This may be of interest to some of you.... --- This is an announcement to the descendants of a man known to most of us as Lace Bunch. His full name is Laford "Lace" L. Bunch. He is a hero because of his service as a Union Soldier and Prisoner of War Veteran of the Civil War. He served first as a Private in the 4th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Infantry. That regiment later was blended into the 2nd Infantry Regiment Tennessee. Please pass this announcement along to any descendants that would like to attend the erection/placement of Lace's memorial Civil War Tombstone. He was preceded in death by parents; Isah and Ella Smithers Davidson, Sisters; Christine Shillings, Zilphia Lowery, half sister, Lola Pass, brothers; George and Lucie Davidson. Mr. Davidson is survived by wife of 57 years; Joyce Morgan Davidson; Daughters; Rita Faye and husband Larry Ledford, Ella Louise and husband R.D. Daugherty all of Lancing. Brother, I.J. Davidson of Lancing. Sister, Lucille Turner of Sunbright; 3 grandchildren; Rhonda Ooten, Michael Ledford, Genny Byrge; 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Lively was born July 27, 1939 in Oliver Springs. Before moving to Oakdale, one month ago, he had lived in Coalfield for many years. William was a retired coal miner who worked for Oliver Springs Mining. He was of the Baptist faith and in addition to his family he enjoyed fishing and camping. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Jessie Lively, by a son, Billy Joe Lively and by sisters; Roxie Lively and Gladys Russell. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Maria Lively of Oakdale, by a daughter, Donna Lively Freytag and husband, Daniel of Sunbright, by sons; William Matthew Lively of Oakdale, Samuel Lively of Florida and Gary Lively and wife Vicky of North Carolina, by eight grandchildren, and by sisters; Betty Braden and Thelma Silvey both of Oliver Springs and by a brother, Tom Lively and wife, Lavada of Oliver Springs.     3. I don't have anything on Larry, but most of the Littons in and around Morgan descend from James Litton 1797-1887 and Anna Foster. Both are buried in the Litton Cemetery, Scott Co.     3. **SMITH, MRS. LELA FERREL KESTERSON, age 69 of Wartburg, went to be with her Heavenly Father Thursday April 7, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Morgan County. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Pilot Mt. Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents: Mr. and Mrs. Roland Kesterson. And three sisters: Euna, Joyce and Ella Frances.She is survived by her loving husband: Johnny Smith. Three daughters: Kathy Smith of Rockwood, Vicki Bennett and her husband Bryan of Knoxville, Sharon Rogers and her husband Doug of Elkton, MD. One son: Steve Smith of Wartburg.
