    1. Re: [TNMORGAN] TNMORGAN Digest, Vol 6, Issue 84 (CARPENTER)
    2. I wanted to briefly respond to a recent response to a query I posted. I refer to the response below: > Dad and I about 2 months ago went down to Nydeck ( named for the Schneck an Nydeck family) just below the Carpenter Cemetery and found the old Dam that as probably built by Rev. Timothy Carpenter. Of course there is no house or emnants. He died around 1855 and is buried in Trinity Cemetery in McMinn Co. The dam has been strngthened with cement but is still there. We were there ust after a flood that put the water 25 feet high out of it's banks. Will go ack and get some pictures this summer. It is a swimming hole for the locals. The Reverend Timothy Carpenter died in 1853 and is buried at Tranquility Methodist Church Cemetery in McMinn County, Tennessee. Anyone interested in this gentleman may wish to refer to a 1995 article I published in THE MAYFLOWER QUARTERLY, entitled "Carpenter Descendants of John Howland in Tennessee." I appreciated the forwarded response. Charles Ward CMW12635@aol.com

    2. I am hopeful a subscriber may be able to help me. The Carpenter family, maternal ancestors of mine, resided in Morgan County in the 1830s through to 1850. My great-great-great-great grandfather was an early Methodist minister, a circuit rider, the Reverend Timothy Carpenter (1773-1853). A grandson-in-law of his, the Reverend A.B. Wright, in his published autobiography, page 7 (published 1896),refers to Timothy Carpenter residing ".....on White Oak Creek, in Morgan County, Tennessee, where Schenck now lives. That is the old Carpenter place." I was hopeful that a subscriber might be able to help me pinpoint this location. It would be great if some remains of the Carpenter residence could still be seen, although I realize that is unlikely. Nevertheless, I would welcome the opportunity to visit the site where it was located, if given permission by the current owner. I have descriptions of the house, a dog-trot cabin, and there was also a lumber and grist mill built nearby by Timothy Carpenter, owned and operated by him. I have found that there is a Burnt Mill Bridge mentioned in the White Oak Creek area and wonder if this might be a reference, perhaps, to the mill of Timothy Carpenter. At this point, that is pure speculation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Charles Ward _CMW12635@aol.com_ (mailto:CMW12635@aol.com)

    3. More info about the 1940 census.... More information on the 1940 Census. http://www.archives.gov/research/census/1940/index.html http://www.archives.gov/research/census/1940/general-info.html The above "General Information" link mentions that the 1940 census will not be microfilmed. NARA is creating digital images that will be made available from their NARA facilities as well as on the Internet. It doesn't mention whether there will be a fee involved to access the information from the Internet. It also doesn't mention whether the digital images will be available on CD. 1. [TNMORGAN] Obituary: Mrs. Edith Faye Redmon Brewer Overton
    2. Julie Cromwell
    3. OVERTON, MRS. EDITH FAYE REDMON BREWER, age 79 of Wartburg, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011. Edith was a lifelong resident of Morgan County and a lifetime member of Liberty Baptist Church. She was a compassionate, caring, and giving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her life’s work was continually helping and loving others as evidenced by her favorite Scripture: “Be kind to one another.” Edith never had worldly wealth to pour out but she spent her life pouring out the riches of love and kindness to her family and friends and blessed all who knew her. She gave from a deep well of Christlike love and forgiveness. Those who have poured out their pain and sorrow to her compassionate ear would attest to her comfort and care. Her heart was full of love and her hands were full of good deeds. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Lizzie Redmon; her husband, Manford; daughter, Kathy; grandsons, Adam and Ryan; sisters, Betty Redmon, Charlotte Lamance, Reba Wilson, and Cora Mae Bullen. She is survived by husband, J.D. Overton; her children, Pat and husband John Cope, Karen and husband Ken Cooner, Ken and wife Jennifer Brewer, and Jerry Brewer; grandchildren, Nathan Cooner, Micah and Catherine Brewer; stepdaughters, Teena Stewart and Twanda Overton; sister, Rema Lane; brothers, E.J. Redmon, Ray Redmon, and Ronnie and wife Judy Redmon; brothers-in-law, Cecil Brewer, and Glen and wife Mary Jo Brewer; sister-in-law, Helen Laughter; former son-in-law; Alvin Cooper, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Edith was a joy and blessing to her family. She was the center around whom all were gathered by her love. Our hearts are heavy with the greatness of our loss, but we rejoice in her deliverance from all fears, pain, sorrow, tears, and suffering. In accordance with Scripture, we her children rise up to call this virtuous woman blessed. We give praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ for her and her well spent life. The family will receive friends Monday, May 16, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg.
