Crab Orchard Church and the area around it is know as Crab Orchard Community. Or it used to be. Don't think too many folks call it that anymore. The church is about 2 or 3 miles from the City of Oakdale and only about 1 mile from the Oakdale School and just over the hill, as the crow flies, from where I live. Pine Orchard Community is may 4 or 5 miles further west. And the 'other' Crab Orchard is across the Cumberland County line, may 15 or 20 miles even further west. Hope we didn't get everyone lost! Cathy, Thanks for the update, your latest post cleared up some confusion. I had come across an earlier map (1890's) that showed the railroad as Cinncinatti New Orleans and Texas Pacific. I was unable to find out if it had changed names. You straightened that up for me. Thanks for the assistance. Terry Cathy <mamartin@highland.net> wrote: PROUD WIFE OF TENNESSEE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SGT. CURRENTLY ON TRAIN UP FOR DEPLOYMENT FOR KOSOVO. Hi Terry, I have to make a correction to my earlier post.At the time that my grandfather and yours worked for the railroad, it was just Southern Railroad. It is now Norfolk Southern. The lines that ran through Lancing in the early days were the CNOTP-Cinncinati,New Orleans,Texas Pacific and the AGS-Alabama Great Southern. My grandfather worked on both.He started in 1918 and worked until the late 1920's, he was then laid off.He returned to work for them in 1942 and remained with them until he retired. He started out on the extra transportable crew. When he retired he was a moler and a tie tapper. As for my Uncle John, he started work in 1936, first carrying water due to his young age, and then on the extra transportable gang. When he died in 1968 he was a foreman for the railroad. He worked on The CNOTP line. If you need anything else just let me know.My uncle said that he seems to remember my grandfather talking about a man named Gunter. My grandfather died in 1987. Bev, Thanks! That cleared it up for me and probably many others. Sincerely, Anna Bertram abertram@heartoftn.net ----- Original Message ----- From: Beverly Aytes-Bowhall Anna, Most of us get confused over this. Cumberland co was formed from part of Morgan Co. But the Crab Orchard Church they were talking about is in Pine Orchard, Morgan co.. There is a Crab Orchard in Cumberland Co, TN, not to be confused with the Crab Orchard Church in Morgan Co. Bev

I stayed with his family when my mother died for a month or two in 1949. I saw him a couple of times after that and then a couple of years ago. I was looking for my aunt MYRTLE WARD CHRISTOPHER because over the years we had lost contact. She had just died, but I found Marion. He and I would talk for a great length on the phone. Always about genealogy. He had been trying to find the place of his grandmother's burial place. I am still trying to find her for Marion......His grandfather lived in Whitfield Co Ga in 1910. The census was taken in late April. Uncle ERNEST was born in June and Eugenia died a few weeks later the family believes, maybe late June or July..My assumption is she is buried near where she lived and has no stone.. PROUD WIFE OF TENNESSEE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SGT. Cathy
Heck let's face it, if our ancestor's lived in Morgan or Cumberland Counties we are ALL related one way or the other. Maybe I am also confused. Was this Crab Orchard formerly in Morgan Co., TN and now in Cumberland Co., TN? Or are they different? Thanks! Anna Bertram abertram@heartoftn.net ----- Original Message ----- From: DRice78942@aol.com I guess I was in the wrong Co. I was thinking Crab Orchard in Cumberland Co. Donna
Good Morning List members! A big Thank You to every one who submitted new information for the 'pages'. I have a few more things to add in the next week or so. http://www.tngenweb.org/morgan/WHATSNEW.html Julie
Nancy I have an "Onie Lee Human", born 1906, daughter of Wiley Human. Wiley's father was Preston Human, grandfather was Bazell Human (Jr.) and great grandfather was Bazzle Human (Sr.). I don't know who Onie married - I haven't researched lines that far - but I have it that her mother was Mary Sims, Wiley's third wife. I guess your sister in law & I are some kind of cousins - Bazell (Jr.) was my third great grandfather. His daughter, Jane Human, Preston's sister, married Simeon Hurst in about 1837 in Morgan County.
