The house that is known today as the Kelly House, was built by my 3-g granddad, Ezra Stonecipher, in 1814 and was in lived in by he and his family until it was purchased by James Martin Kelly, sometime in the 1830's. It is still owned by Mrs. J.D. McCartt and is overseen by the children. By contacting the family, we were able to tour the grounds last year as part of our Jones Family Gathering [Jeremiah Jones married Ezra's granddaughter, Louisa Stonecipher]. I think that going onto the property to visit the cemetery is not a problem - you just need to make them aware that you would be there. Denise, You might be interested to know that a William Wilson is mentioned in Beth Davidson's book Minutes of Hinds Creek Baptist Church. Beeck Fork was a sister church of Hinds Creek and on the 2nd Friday , June, 1852, they petition Hinds Creek for ministerial aid in preaching and the ordaining of Br. William H. Williams as a licensed minister. The petition was received by the hand of BR. WILLIAM WILSON. Also in March 1849 Hinds Creek was petitioned by Little Emery church by a John Wilson. Little Emery was also a sister church and was in the area. Thought you might like to have this info. The index also included a Nathan and Tate Howard, and in the Williams's -Albright, Barbary(probably Barbara) and Luke. None of the other surnames you gave are mentioned. It is most interesting to read and it helped find some of my ancestors that I couldn't find otherwise. Hi, do you mind sharing the Miles basic info with me? My grandmother was Eliza Inez Miles or Myles, not sure, it was spelled different at different times...She only had one brother Avis Ridley Miles. Their parents were Charles Edward Miles and Laminda Emmaline Turner. Charles Edward Miles drowned in 1959 in WattsBar Lake. His mother was Florence or Nancy Taylor, I have gone brain dead for a moment, I will tell you for sure at a later time....his father was Ed Miles.,it shows that he was born in Davidson County. I know he had a sister named Stella Miles...I have no idea who she married. but we do have a picture of Stella, her mother, and one of her children....hope you can help....thanks for your time...Nancy Dixon Norris in Crossville, TN.... ----- Original Message ----- From: Ken Bray <braykc@highland.net> To: <TNMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 23, 2003 6:35 PM Subject: Re: [TNMORGAN] Cemeteries Pages has been updated!!! > I live in the Pine Orchard community of Morgan County about a mile from thr > Miles home > Ken > > > > At 05:51 PM 11/19/2003 -0500, you wrote: > >Jean > >Any specific names you are looking for in the Oakdale area? > > > >Julie > > > >Jean Cole-Sturtevant wrote: > > > >>>Veronica and Julie > >>> > >>> > >>I live in Arizona and sure like all the info you, Julie and all the others > >>are listing. Hi Sandra, it is always nice to meet a relative, even a distant one! I would be happy to share data! Becky
Thanks, Gerry, for that info. If I had more time while I was in TN, I would have pursued it more. But I would like to find out who now owns the land. I hope Julie knows. Thanks again. Your Wilsons are buried there and you have every right to visit it. This seems to be a growing problem in Morgan County that people don't realize that when they buy property they cannot own a cemetery plot on that land. The last person that I knew owning the land was J. D. McCartt. It has probably been passed on to some of his family if the McCartts still own the farm. Julie, do you know who owns the land now? Hi List: I know I have seen information here on the McCartt line. But, I am looking for information on the Beach (Beech) Fork Cemetery near Wartburg. I have family buried there, namely: Charles and Abbie Wilson, William Wilson, Elihu Wilson, etc. What I need to know is if the cemetery exists anymore, or if it is now farmland. I visited TN not too long ago and was told that the land belonged to someone who would not let me go look for the cemetery. According to the Morgan County Cemeteries II (Kries), Lillie Wilson, Elihu's granddaughter, indicated that the land belonged to the McCartts, but it was on the Kelly Farm (?? it doesn't make too much sense to me). Anyway, if someone could clear this up, I would be very grateful. I would like to take a look at the cemetery and find information about these Wilsons. Thank you. PROUD WIFE OF TENNESSEE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SGT. CURRENTLY ON TRAIN UP FOR DEPLOYMENT FOR KOSOVO. Hi Steve, I will go to the court house tomorrow and look in the death records there and see what it says. I have two Thomas Crosses is my hubby's line, but not with this death date.I have a Thomas Cross born in 1846 and married Elizabeth Phillips.I don't have a death date on him.The other Thomas J. Cross that I have was born Feb. 17, 1870 and died July 23, 1951. This Thomas I have married to Delia Langley. My hubby descends from Abraham H. and Frances White Cross. Cathy
PROUD WIFE OF TENNESSEE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SGT. CURRENTLY ON TRAIN UP FOR DEPLOYMENT FOR KOSOVO. Hi Nancy, See, I had Ivory Hamby, Sr. as the son of Rueben also. I wasn't sure that Ivory Sr.'s son was the same I. F. Hamby that married Electa (on her tombstone it's Electie, but it was Electra). She was a sister to my gg-grandfather Samuel Jordan Cox. You probably had Eva an only child due to the fact that her sister Beatrice died at the age of 4.Beatrice and Electra both are buried in the Clear Creek Cemetery. The reason that I said that Eva had a lot of children with her husband, is that my aunt remembers her.Since Eva was raised by my ggg-grandparents, my aunt remembers talking to her and playing with her children. My aunt is the oldest of my grandparents children and was born in 1918.Eva was 22 years older than her,but she and her family spent a lot of time with my ggg and gg-grandparents.When Eva moved to Crossville, my aunt lost touch with her.She wasn't even sure when she died and she couldn't remember her husband's name. She did remember that they had a son named Ivory due to the fact that it was a name that had been passed down in the Hamby line for generations. I had Reubin as having a son named Ivory F. but I had him married to Sarah R. Unknown.Now. let me tell you what I have on these two .I have Ivory F. Hamby Sr. born 27 May 1820 in NC and died 2 July 1893 in Morgan Co.,TN.He is buried in the Hamby cemetery in Annadell.Sarah was born 9 Aug 1825 in KY and died 31 Dec 1883 in Morgan Co.,TN.She too is buried in the Hamby Cemetery in Annadell. They had 8 children:1)Elizabeth born 1842 in KY.2)Emily Catherine born 15 Jun 1844 in TN and died 14 Apr 1850 in Morgan Co.,TN.She is buried in the Elizabeth Cem.3)Adeline born 1845 in TN, 4) William born 1847 in KY and married Elizabeth Unknown.5)Joel born 1855 in TN,6)Amanda born 1857 in TN,7)James born 1861 in TN,8) Ivory F. Jr. born in 1868 in TN and married I assume now Electra Cox.All of the information on this family comes the 1850-1870 Morgan Co. Census records and the two cemeteries. So, due to the fact that none of these children match the children you listed (with the exception of an Ivory Jr.) we must be talking about different ppl. These would have been to old to have children born after 1870. See, why I stay confused with this and the Norris line?LOL They had their children around the same time and named them the same. They're almost as confusing as the Howards,Hawns and Potters.(And don't even get me started on the last two of those that insisted on only marrying each other) Thanks for the info, maybe between the two of us,and Glenna if she is lurking somewhere (LOL) we can figure this mess out. Let me know if any of these ppl look familiar, maybe there were more than two I. F. Hambys. Cathy
