    3. Veronica, Keep up the good work on the cemeteries. You're doing a great job. On the comment of coming to America, I have a friend who is second generation Sicilian. Everything she found had to be translated into English. That made me appreciate my English roots when I started on my line. 3. I will have to pull up my Grandma Gracie Smith's address. It is down the road from her place across the street from a church. I know it has an incredible amount of folk there. When I hear some of the names that are talked about I recognize them with some of the names I have seen at the cemetery. This might be a gold mine for someone. There is also a cemetery about by a fellow by the last name Cooper that maybe helpful to some folks too. I will get the address for you tonight. 3. Hi Edna I'd be real interested in any information on the 1820 census. I was under the impression that the 1820 census for Morgan County, as well as for most of the rest of East Tennessee, was destroyed at some time in the past. Since I had at least one set of 3rd great grandparents in Morgan County in 1820, and several in other East Tennessee counties, I'd love to get my hands on this information. 3. Edna, Thank you so much for your answers. I have seen some of what you sent, but the Native American info has brought new ideas to me. As far as we can tell, Ann went to Chattanooga to have her children, as that is where my first breakthrough happened several years ago when a dear friend, knowing how important census records are, found that my Flora was indeed born in Chattanooga but was from Wartburg. I had been through nearly every record there was in Hamilton County, finding no connections. It seems now that the grandchildren, including 'Ruben Laymance" were at the grandparents the day that the census taker came. There is also a chance that George D. Bowling and Ann White Heydemann Bowling were on their way to get things settled in KS for them to live there. Kansas City barely received statehood before the Civil War began in 1861. It was still quite a small community, and in its childhood. The funny thing is that my grandmother did not know the correct names of her grandparents. She had pictures sent when her mother was md in 1876 from George Frederic Heydemann and his wife Mathilde Dornfeldt Heydemann (1825- ) and a picture of their daughter Clara born about 1845 in Germany. She thought this couple were her grandparents. Somehow she didn't realize that Ferdinand and Ann White Bowling were her grandparents. Fortunately, she did keep all the pictures, some of whom I have no idea who they are. From the time I was a teen in the 50's and visited her in the summers and when she lived with us in later years, I always asked her to tell me what she knew. She actually had done a very good job, as the notes I took have seemed to be right on the mark. But in this area it completely led me astray. Perhaps the fact that George D. Bowling was her step-grandfather and she knew about , having lived in the same community as him. He and Ann had died before or about the time she was born in 1885. But she had much association with George and Ann's children and Thomas B. Bowling's father. Then Flora, her mother died in Kansas City, in May of 1898, when my grandmother had just turned 13. Boy! I surely got rambling. Guess I need to scan these pictures and see if anyone in the Hall or White families sees a connection. Some of them could be the Bowlings, but the cousin out in California will probably be able to straighten that out. Thanks so much for your suggestions. 3. Teddie, There are several reasons why the Branstetter Cemetery wouldn't be listed. First, if noone has donated any pics to the TnGenWeb project those pics wouldn't be listed. It wouldn't be listed on the www.geocities.com/morgancountycemeteries site if the pics haven't been donated or I havent been to the cemetery to take the pictures yet. Where is the cemetery in question? I'll be happy to add it to my current list of cemeteries and get it pictured as soon as I can get a moment to get to it. On your comment about others coming to America. I know first hand how they feel, my Daddy is German, born and raised in Bremen, he came to the United States about 50 years ago. Growing up, he'd tell stories of his childhood, and of course us kids would think, "Oh no, not again".... Most teenagers do. But now that I'm grown I enjoy listening to my Dad tell the stories of how things were when he grew up over there. Its really a learning experience. 3. Hi Cathy, I just looked and I have some of your husband family in my data base. It looks like my line on the Scotts and Halls to Martin and Nancy Webb Hall. My line from the Scotts is: Nancy Emma Scott Freels to Russell Scott to Samuel Scott and then Thomas Scott (Revolutionary War Soldier). I believe I got some of the information from Margaret Scott before she died. I have as far as Emma Hall. Don't worry about reading the information wrong. I read stuff wrong all the time! Maybe when I get the penion application, it will give me some more clues. Now........do you have any proof of the parents of John Webb that was married to Nancy Hall (daughter of Martin & Choe Hendrix Hall)? I feel like his father was Cutherath Webb but I have not found any proof. John 's parents have really been a brick wall for me. Thanks for all your help. 3. Frank Heydeman is shown in 1850 Census Records. He is 36 yrs old. And a Laborer from Germany. Shows he had 400 acres of Land. He is shown alone. This is all I could find on him in 1850. 3. I had a Cherokee Grandmother Miranda James and I know she was 1/2 Cherokee. Her husband who was Fred Briggs was 1/4 Cherokee. Who had red hair and beautiful blue eyes. She was tall and slender and dark hair and dark eyes. I have found his family but cannot find anyone from the James Side of the family to compare/share notes with. I have no idea where to look for this information on the Indian Tribes. Most here were Cherokee. They gave Tennessee it's name. I will have to look this up for you. If I can, I will. 3. Dear Edna, Just read your latest email and it occurred to me that you might have some ideas of where to steer me next, or perhaps those books you mentioned may have some gems for me. I was extremely fortunate to connect with Morgan T. a few years before he died, and he sent me much of his data. But he didn't hold out much hope for what I need, so it may be silly for me to inquire. My gg grandfather was Ferdinand Heydemann who emigrated on an ill-fated ship in 1847 which almost didn't make it to land. He was one of the earlier workers, storekeepers and landowners of Wartburg and then md John C. White and Ruth Hall White's daughter Ann C White. He was murdered in 1856. Morgan didn't think that there was any record of where he was buried or any marriage record for he and Ann White as 'sherman' and his men had been through there. So, where he might be buried would be my first question? I also cannot find the origins of George D. Bowling (1834) and his brother Thomas B. Bowling, who were probably friends of the Whites or Halls. He later marries Ann and becomes the step-father of her daughters, Ann and Flora and they move to Kansas City, KS. He and Ann were md in Macoupin, Illinois on the way to Kansas. Does anyone connect to these Bowlings? Their mother's name could have been Mary, but that is not verified. They both state that they were born in TN and not KY. Ruth Hall's mother, Barbara, wife of David Hall, was Native American. John C. White's mother was Natichia, also Native American. {I think I have the generations correct} Now that records for Native Americans seem to be coming forth, can you suggest the best way to find which tribes or nations, these two women would have been part of. (Off hand, I could assume Cherokee, but that would be foolish.) Any ideas or suggestions that you might have would be very appreciated. And to all you listers, I have learned so much about Wartburg and TN from all of your sharing. The funny thing is that these are my Mom's lines, Flora was her grandmother, and recently I realized that my Dad's 2nd and 3rd great grandparents were over in Jefferson County, not too far away - William McCulley born 1790, and Tobias Wilhelm (1760?-1814 in AL) and his daughter Aisley Wilhelm. These families emigrated down to Paint Rock, Jackson, AL. I want to thank all of you for the historical information and good advice and ideas that you share. May you all have a safe, peaceful, healthy, and loving Christmastime and be blessed for all of your kindnesses, especially to us Westerners, who have been in Northern Indiana for a 3rd of a Century. Sure would be tempting to come your way for Christmas, if those darling little granddaughters weren't out West. Oh Well - Maybe next Spring or Fall. Thanks again Edna. 3. PROUD WIFE OF TENNESSEE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SGT. CURRENTLY ON TRAIN UP FOR DEPLOYMENT FOR KOSOVO. Hi Linda, My husband's Hall line connects to the Scott line. Her marriage date and death date on his pension envelope. On the Hall line my hubby's connection is as follows: (starting with his grandmother) Emma Hall Walker to John Burnside Hall to Samuel Hall to Garrett Hall to Samuel Hall, Jr. to Samuel Hall, Sr. to John Garrett Hall. He connects to the Hall in another line as well starting with his ggg-grandmother Nancy Hall Webb to Martin Daniel Hall to Samuel Hall Sr. to John Hall.(this hall connection is through his Scott line) His Scott line is as follows: (starting with his gg-grandmother) Lydia Scott to Russell Scott to Samuel Scott to Thomas Scott to John Scott. Lee Cross did write the notes on the outside of the pension applications. He is also responsible for them being in the Wartburg Library. I also had the older Elisha's wife as Rebecca Moiser, but since I didn't put where I got this information from, I didn't include it.I am also with Georgeanne, in the fact, that I haven't ran across any Halls from SC. I also just rechecked the outside of the envelope of his pension application. It does NOT state that he was the son of Elisha and Rebecca Mosier. It is written very small and I misread it this morning. What is says is that Samuel E. is the first child of Elisha and Rebecca Scott Hall (his second wife). Sorry about the mistake, I was in a hurry and should have looked closer. If I can help you with anything else let me know.I promise to pay more attention. Cathy

    3. Thank you all for the information on Elisha and Martha Mosier Hall. If the parents of Elisha is Samuel and Letisha Hendrix Hall, then I am really deep into the Halls. I also have grandparents, Martin Hall and Choe Hendrix, buried at Elizabeth. I have a copy of the 1880 Morgan Co. census, but not the pension record. I'll send off for that. I knew of Rebecca Scott, but not her date of dead and place. Where did you find this information on Rebecca Scott? I also have a Scott line I was trying to prove the Mosier line for the DAR, but if I can prove my line to Samuel Hall, that would just be WONDERFUL! 1. [TNMORGAN] Question on cemeteries....
    2. Teddie Cazier
    3. I am wondering how come the Branstetter Cemetery is not listed? Seems like an awful lot of folk that are connected in some way or another. Also... As I read over the emails I am touched by all of you folks out there that are dilegently looking for your ancestors. I was thinking a day or so ago about how we are all a little of this and that, (German, Irish, Cherokee, Italian and on and on) Anyway.. As I have spent the past 8 years in San Jose California I have had the opportunity to meet several people that have recently migrated to America and are 1st and 2nd generations to the U.S. It is fascinating to think of how it must have been years ago when our families migrated compared to now. Just thoughts as I read emails each day. Keep up the good work. Teddie Smith Cazier Chester Lee Smith's daughterand Everett Smith and Gracie Branstetter's Grandaughter

    3. You can order from Morgan Co. Library any Census Record Book you like. They also have 1860-1870-1880- 1900 vol 1 and vol II and 1910 and 1920. Not too costly either. I have those and Cemetery Records and Old Marriage Records by Miss Ethel Freytag.. Edna P.
