    3. Hello to the list. I have a few late comments on the note posted earlier this month. Pleasant and Lucy Webb Casey are my maternal ggggrandparents. Pleasant and Lucy's marriage bond is dated 19 July 1830. There is no record of the marriage, but this date is generally used as a marriage date (with footnote). There are a number of Barton Webbs about, but I have Barton Webb marrying Sarah Clower on 29 April 1838 in Roane County. I would be curious about the source for your Barton and his death in 1835, as the info could help me sort them out. Could 1835 be incorrect, or is there another Barton and Sarah? In the 1850's Barton Webb of Roane County, listed as a relative of Pleasant Casey, is a co-defendant with Pleasant Casey in a lawsuit filed in Bradley County. There are also legal actions against Barton Webb and several of the Clower family (they beat up someone, then beat up the officer of the court who came out to serve them with papers). A Roane County deed of 1842 says: Allen Webb and wife Rebecca, daughter of Cutberth Webb (deceased) sell their interest in lands decended of Cutberth Webb. The land descended to eight heirs. Note that Rebecca's maiden name was Webb, implying that they were cousins. In other Roane County deeds, Barton Webb buys the one eighth portions of Cutberth's land from two of the heirs: William Webb, and James Sellars and wife Elizabeth. Cutberth is listed as being of Meigs County. I am assuming (not proven) that all these Barton Webb actions represent the same man. Does anyone know if the Bartons listed are one and the same? If Allen Webb married his cousin Rebecca, which of Cutberth's brothers was the father of Allen? Or was he further removed than a first cousin? Does anyone have proof of Lucy being a child of Cutbirth? And finally, part of a letter written during the Civil War by Hiram Fitzgerald, a son-in-law of Pleasant Casey, written to his wife Emaline Casey Fitzgerald. The letter also mentions another Pleasant Casey son-in-law, John Carson. The other family members mentioned seem to be of the Allen Webb family or his in-laws. I have my opinions who the others mentioned might be, but can anyone identify them positively? Can anyone identify the deceased Sellars children? Novembar the 23 1864 Diear Wife I take the oppitunity of riting you a few lines to let you hear from me I got to camp last night our redgment is out on Scout at this time I am well and hope this letter will find you all well I come by onkel alen Webb and staid a while with them onkel alen is ded he dide the last of augest Clumbas is at home and has been for some time he is in bad health William Webb is at home he has never bin out yet on the account of his health ant Elisabeth Sellars is ded & 2 of her bois & one of her girls I am not far from whear ant bets lived but I dont no whear I am Some 16 miles East of Washington arkansus the Capton is hear & 2 lewtenance with us I dont no how long wee will stay hear but not long thar is no telling whear wee will go John Carson is hear he is well but dont look as well as he did when I saw him last thar is a heap of news but I dont no how much is true (etc., etc.) Hope this helps someone, and perhaps generates some comments. Morgan County seemed to just be a stopping over place for the Webbs. I can provide more vitals on the Allen and Rebecca Webb family, or on the Pleasant and Lucy Webb Casey family if anyone is interested, but I am pretty lost beyond that. Thanks for reading all this. 3. PROUD WIFE OF TENNESSEE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SGT. CURRENTLY ON TRAIN UP FOR DEPLOYMENT FOR KOSOVO. Hi Linda, Here is what I have on Mary J. Webb.I have her listed as being born in 1837.She married Elisah L. Hall on 17 June 1855.I have 6 children:Robert L.,J. E. (female),E. S. (female),M. C. (female),Mary Jane, and Elijah. Her husband was the son of Elijah and Lydia Scott Hall.He was born 28 May 1833 and died Feb of 1911 in Bennetts,Arkansas.I got this information from the J. P. Hall file in the library. Zachary Taylor Hall was the son of John and Mary Williams Hall.He was born in Jan 1848 and died 20 Mar 1936.He is buried in the Elizabeth Cem.He died from broncitis and systitis.I didn't have a spouse for him,so this may be a different Zachary Taylor. His dates don't match the ones you gave.I went and rechecked the cemetery book. This Zachary Taylor is the husband of a Clovie. It states that Clovie was the daughter of Samuel no surname metioned. I also have Nancy as Nancy Caroline, because the 1850 census lists her as Nancy, the 1860 lists her as Caroline. Maybe this will help you some.LOL Cathy

    2. Linda- I wanted to Thank-you for the things you sent in the mail. I got them last friday. The only thing is that some of the information on it is incorrect or incomplete for the Daughters of the American REvolution item you sent. If you would like to put a notation on your copy. I have the Marriage Certificate for Francis M. Webb and Anna A Kelley as 30 June 1869 in Johnson co. Illinois. Mitchell Webb was born Jan. 1787 in Wilkes co. N.C. and was buried in Webb Cemetery in Tunnel Hill, Johnson, Illnois. He did marry a sister of Rhoda for his second wife. I believe he had 12 children total when all was said and done. I will be scanning the will and seeing if I can get the white to fill in dark. I can hardly read it. But I am assuming it is the will of Million Webb who married a Hall. Thanks again for the information. 3. Veronica Sorry I didn't have the rest of that obit. I looked in the Schubert Funeral Home Record Books, and she is not listed in those. She isn't in the Maxwell Funeral Home Records for Roane Co. either. So, her funeral must have been in another 'home', possibly in Roane or Anderson Co. 3. PROUD WIFE OF TENNESSEE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SGT. CURRENTLY ON TRAIN UP FOR DEPLOYMENT FOR KOSOVO. Hi Liz, That is the same information that I have from Grace Batson, she is from Colorado not Hawaii as I stated earlier. However, what does she list as her proof that the John Howard that married Nancy Howard is the son of the John Howard that married Avis?I have had several researchers other than Grace, tell me that these are his parents, but they can't prove it.They also all claim that he married a Matilda in KY, there is no proof of these either, or at least that I haven't seen it.They claim these due to the ages of John and Nancy at the time of their marriage. It is more than likely that he was married before, due to the fact that he lived in SC for 20 years after the Rev. War,but we have found no marriage in the records of Christian Co.,KY or in Simpsonville,SC.He also does not mention having but one wife in his pension application. I am curious as to the names of the other three children that you have listed as belonging to John and Nancy. If there are three others, they would have to have belonged to the "first wife" and weren't listed on any census records taken in Morgan Co.,TN.This would show more of a light on proving that he did have another wife.I only have seven children listed:Avis,Unknown female,Joseph Newland,Samuel,Nathan,William T.,and Phillip Allen.I only have the spouses of three of them.Avis married Allen Bledsoe, after her death he married my ggg-grandmother Amy Caroline Mathis Barnett, the widow of James Barnett.Joseph Newland married Martha Guffey.Phillip Allen married Lydia Branstetter. This is my exact reason for wanting to make a trip to Simpsonville,SC.To finally find the proof that John and Avis really are John Howard's parents.I know that they were on the "Trail of Tears".Avis was scalped by Indians and had to wear a cap for the rest of her life. She was fortunate that they didn't break her skull as they usually did.Unfortunately it did not list any children that were traveling with them. There are supposably records of the Clear Springs Baptist Church that also has the names of their children, both married and single on the same record.Rev. John Howard's will does mention a son named John Howard. From this everyone assumes that it is the John that married Nancy. This John,Jr. is also shown in SC land records as having land next to his brother Edward Howard. I agree that all of this information, makes it seem as though John Howard, that married Nancy, is indeed the son of John and Avis. However, we still need that little thread that ties them altogether. He can be traced back to the same places as John Sr.He however does not bring any of his siblings with him when he leaves SC for KY,or at least I haven't found any of the rest of the children of John Sr. and Avis. The only family that he is in Morgan Co.,TN with are his cousins. His wife Nancy and her two brothers, Samuel and Nathan, these are supposably the children of John Sr.'s son Edward, the brother of John that married Nancy. However, if you look at the age of Edward, he is too young to be the father of Nathan.Edward was only 7 years old when Nathan was born. John and Nancy did name their oldest son Joseph Newland.Rev. John and Avis also had a son named Joseph Newland.John and Nancy did not however, name one of their sons John. They do have two sons named after Nancy's brothers. This family is a mystery. The pieces all seem to fit, just can't seem to find the glue to make them stay.If we could just so much as find one of the other children mention in the will of Rev. John being somewhere other than SC with John "Jr.".We would have it made, but so far I haven't been able to do that. Hopefully we can find something soon. Cathy

    3. Looking for information on Cherokee families of Morgan Co. My Cherokee line comes through the wife of Josiah JONES--son of Shadrack--Katherine/Catherine (b. ABT. 1834-1838), however she is listed as white in the 1880 census. Would anyone know her surname? Her daughter, Didama, definitely looked part Indian. Katherine must have looked even more Indian--why listed as white? All help greatly appreciated. Lisa Charles Brisbane, Australia Morgan Co. Surnames: JONES and MORGAN
