All that my notes say is: It appears that Delilah Melton Pitman may have abandoned the family soon after Dan was born. In military records for Dan (Service #: 3239014) the form lists his foster father as William Langley. Dan's father was Daniel Pittman who farmed along the Coon Hollow Rd. near the Union Grove church in Morgan Co. When the elder Daniel died in September of 1890 (burried in Burrville with his first wife Margaret McCartt Pittman), the family story goes that she started running around. The other children half brothers/sisters of Dan disliked Delilah and had very little to do with her. Many of them moved to Texas in the 1890s. I spoke with Morgan Davidson of Morgan co. b/4 he died and he said Mr. Langley took in Dan but never adopted him. He worked him pretty hard. Dan enlisted in the Army. I'm not sure if he fought overseas but died at Camp Meade, MD in 1918. Are you sure he is buried in the Lancing Cemetery? ==== TNMORGAN Mailing List ==== Morgan County Books: http://www.tngenweb.org/morgan/MorganCountyBooks.html ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 ==== TNMORGAN Mailing List ==== Morgan County Books: http://www.tngenweb.org/morgan/MorganCountyBooks.html ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237

I have knocked down one of my walls. I have found my ancestor across the waters in Switzerland thanks to many helpful people. To name a few are Ellen Taylor, Sherrie Bargatze, and Roman of Switzerland. They have been so helpful in helping me in my search. I would never have found this info with out their help. It took about a year after they started helping me. I had been searching for many times that. Here's to all those people that volunteer their time and effort in the search of our heritage. Cheers! Happy New Year to all. I have a quest this year to find couples that were married by my grandfather, Rev J. L. Owens. He performed many ceremonies at the foot of their driveway. They would often bring him eggs, sugar, hams, even a load of wood to marry the couple. He was an ordained minister and preached around Coalfield, Mosseygrove, and even in to Anderson and Roane Co. So when you find the certificate of that ancestor, please look to see who married them and let me know. The time frame would be 1900-1950's Thank you Donna

What kind of markers are they. If they are marble looking don't let it fool you. I have found that if you take a piece of white construction paper and a black crayon and press hard the name and dates can still come up. Give it a try when you go back. Just a thought.
