She was the daughter of George and Clara Miller. A lifelong resident of Shady Valley, her family said she was known for her gardening and craft skills. She was an accomplished quilter and particularly enjoyed growing and arranging flowers. Prior to her retirement, she worked with her husband for many years in several small businesses that they owned. For more than 50 years, she was an active member of the Shady Valley Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Argus Blevins, and by a son, Ralph Blevins. Mrs. Blevins was survived by two daughters, Louise Dunlap and husband, Julian, of Oak Ridge and Kathleen Britts and husband, Ramon, of Fairfax Station, Va.; four grandchildren, Leigh Dunlap of Alexandria, Va., Lynn Dunlap and husband, Moses DeMello, of Asheville, N.C., Jennifer Britts Connors of Vienna, Va., and Eric Britts of Fairfax Station; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Demello and Matthew Demello, both of Asheville; two brothers, Aster Miller of Huntsville, Ala., and Avery Miller of Piney Flats; and by one sister, Izetta Triplett of Bluff City. Billie Ruth Cole Boyd, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004. She was born in Honaker, Va., on Aug. 15, 1929, the daughter of Bradley Paul and Minnie Bell Cole. She graduated from high school in Richlands, Va., in 1947, and has been a resident of the Knoxville area since 1952. According to her family, she was active in youth sports, PTA, and school and community activities in the Farragut and Karns communities, and attended the Presbyterian church although raised in the Baptist church. She was later employed as manager of the Nancy Lynn Fashions clothing stores in Oak Ridge and Powell. Afterward, she cared for the elderly and infirm, and finally was an employee of Brinks Security Systems. Her family said, she loved life and loved her children more. She could have been anything she set her mind to be but instead married, settled down, had five children and made a home that welcomed any and all who showed up on her doorstep. She enjoyed music and travel, dancing and laughter, and was always prepared for the unexpected joke or prank from her children. She was preceded in death by her second child, Susan Elaine Boyd, and by her brother, John P. Cole. She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Boyd Williams, of Knoxville; a son and daughter-in-law, L. H. Boyd Jr. and Suzie Boyd, of Oliver Springs; a daughter, Ann Ellen Boyd, of Oak Ridge; and a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel J. Boyd and Kimberly F. Marie Muller, 90, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at The Estates of Oak Ridge, of complications of congestive heart failure. She was born June 6, 1913, in Holle, Germany, the daughter of Hermine and Wilhelm Vasterling. In her late-teen years, she worked as a homemaker for a prominent Lutheran pastor's family in Hildesheim. In 1936, she married Henry Muller of Ringstedt. They moved to Weissenfels in 1938, where she worked for a dairy company. They fled East Germany with their two daughters in 1946 to Henry Muller's boyhood home in the West. In 1950, she immigrated with her family to Brooklyn, New York. It was there she learned the confectionery business at the store of her sister-in-law and spouse. The focal point of her life was her family. The Mullers purchased their first business in New York City in 1954. They then moved to Long Island, where they bought a second ice cream parlor/luncheonette. Their store was recognized for its excellent chocolate-Easter confections and lunch trade. Mrs. Muller retired with her husband from business in 1974 and moved to Whiting, N.J. She was an avid vegetable gardener who shared her produce with the entire neighborhood. She enjoyed making ceramic crafts which still decorate her families' homes. Mrs. Muller and her spouse moved to Oak Ridge on March 15, 2000, to The Estates of Oak Ridge. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years in September 2002 Mrs. Muller is survived by her daughters, Sigrid Ludemann and her husband, Carl, of Oak Ridge, and RoseMarie Johnson of Whiting, N.J.; four grandchildren, Donald Ludemann and his wife, Debra, of St. Paul, Minn., Carol Lude-mann Barcus and her husband, John, of Huron, Ohio, Eva Johnson Oliver and her husband, Thomas, of Chester, N.H., and David Johnson of Austin, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Colin Barcus of Notre Dame, Ind., Matthew Barcus and Geoffrey Barcus, both of Huron Ohio, and Heather Oliver of Chester N.H. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Joseph Michael "Mike" Sawicki, 54, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at his home in Paducah, Ky. Born October 27, 1949, in Oak Ridge, he was the son of Joseph and Betty Jo Graham Sawicki, by whom he is survived, of Oak Ridge. He was a 1968 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. Mr. Sawicki was a welder and recently retired from the U.S. Enrichment Corp. He began his career in Oak Ridge working at both the Y-12 Plant and the former Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant. He was transferred to Paducah several years ago. He is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed traveling, especially on the ocean and spent a lot of time on wind jamming. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially golf, bowling and water skiing, and was an avid VOL fan. Born Sept. 24, 1910, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of Charles and Belle Adkins. She was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church in Clinton. She enjoyed cooking, quilting and especially loved making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, her family said. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Webber, a son, Dwain Webber, and a grandson, David B. Webber. Mrs. Webber is survived by two sons, Charles Boyd Webber and wife, Doris, of Oak Ridge, and Clarence Jr. and wife, Colleen Webber, of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Judith Webber of Georgia; and eight grandchildren, Lisa Webber, Mark Webber, Laura Mickelson, Melissa Furr, Katherine Lawrence, Donna Jaskiernia, Cheryl Schiever and Dana Webber. She is also surived by a brother and his wife, Ulis and Lola Adkins; and a sister, Naomi Roddy, all of Lake City; and by 14 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, in the chapel of Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City. Her grandchildren, Mark Webber and Lisa Webber, said a eulogy. Burial was held Thursday, Jan. 15, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake City. Helen Peak Fultz, 81, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Briarcliff Health Care Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church Concord where she served as financial secretary for almost 25 years before retiring in 2003 for health reasons. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. BOYD, BILLIE RUTH COLE - passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 14, 2004. She was born in Honaker, Virginia on August 15, 1929, the daughter of the late Bradley Paul and Minnie Bell Cole. She graduated from high school in Richlands, Virginia in 1947, and has been a resident of the Knoxville area since 1952. She was active in youth sports, PTA, and school and community activities in the Farragut and Karns communities, and attended the Presbyterian Church although raised in the Baptist Church. She was later employed as manager of the Nancy Lynn Fashions clothing stores in Oak Ridge and Powell. Afterward she cared for the elderly and infirm, and finally was an employee of Brinks Security Systems. She loved life and loved her children more. She could have been anything she set her mind to be but instead married, settled down, had five children and made a home that welcomed any and all who showed up on her doorstep. She enjoyed music and travel, dancing and laughter, and was always prepared for the unexpected joke or prank from her children. Billie Ruth is preceded in death by her beloved second child, Susan Elaine Boyd and brother John P. Cole. She is survived by daughter Beverly Boyd Williams of Knoxville, son and daughter in law L. H. Her family moved to Knoxville in 1926, and she became a telephone operator. In 1933 she was the second employee hired by TVA's Communication Division, retiring in 1970 as supervisor of the telephone exchange. For many years, Gladys was a faithful member of Arlington Baptist Church. She will be lovingly remembered for the thoughtful, caring things she did for family, friends, and neighbors. She was a beautiful, loving person of great integrity and enjoyed life to the fullest. Preceded in death by husband, Clarence Sowder; parents; siblings, Blanche, Ralph, Elmer and Carl. Beno, 82, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at his home. Born Nov. 27, 1921, in Ford City, Pa., he was the son of Vincent and Mary Tarnek Beno. He apprenticed as a machinist and worked as a precision tool and die maker until his retirement in 1988. Mr. Beno married Sadie Payo in Ford City on Jan. 12, 1943. They moved to California in 1952 and continued to live there until their move to Oak Ridge in 1991. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Beno is survived by a daughter, Andrea Wignall and husband, George, of Oak Ridge; three sons, Lawrence Beno and wife, Anita, of Madisonville, Richard Beno and wife, Vicki, of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Andrew Beno Jr. and wife, Karin, of Cocollala, Ind.; a brother, Vincent Beno of Ford City; two sisters, Martha Cippel of Ford City and Bernadette Hawk of Russell, Mass.; and by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Opal Mabel Wilson Bruner, 86, long-time resident of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Briarcliff Health Care Center, where she had been a resident for a year. Prior to entering Briarcliff she resided at the Oak Ridge Retirement Community. Born April 21, 1917, in Pineville, Ky., she was the daughter of Boyd and Leelon Kenningham Wilson. Mrs. Bruner was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church. According to her family, all her energies were spent on her family and her home, which were very important to her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, James Carl Bruner. Mrs. Bruner is survived by her son, Carl A. Bruner and wife, Christine, of Knoxville; two sisters, Martha Lois Park and Mary Lee Brown, both of Oak Ridge; two grandchildren, Emily Cripps and husband, Reed, of Lafayette, Ind., and Christian Bruner of Knoxville; and by a great-grandson, Samuel Cripps of Lafayette. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the mortuary. Elmer Thomas Lively, 83, of Oliver Springs, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Dec. 28, 1920, in Windrock, he was the son of Charlie Logan Lively and Rose Mary Reynolds Lively. He started working in the coal mines at the age of 16. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Miner Workers of America. He worked at Windrock Coal Co., Clinchmore Coal, Rosedale Coal Co. and Pocahonas Coal Co. Mr. Lively was a 45-year member of Union Valley Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. His family said he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. According to his family, Mr. Lively was a compassionate, considerate, understanding and loving husband and father, who always put his family and others first. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Vic A. Allen Lively; a daughter, Lena F. Bunch; three brothers, Ramsey Lively, Lewis Lively and Carlie Lively; and by three sisters, Martha Gibson, Mary Lou Morgan and Willie Byrge. Mr. Lively is survived by his wife of 61 years, Etta L. Lively; two daughters, Sena McPeters and husband, Wendell, of Oliver Springs, and Sheila Collins and husband, Tim, of Kingston; and by eight grandchildren, Cheryl Bales, Tommy Lively, Chris Lively, April McPeters, Steve McPeters, Jason Lively, Melissa Lively and Katie Collins.
