    1. [TNMORGAN] AOL and Rootsweb Mailing Lists
    2. Timothy N. West
    3. Rootsweb sent this tonight to all their list administrators and those subscribed to their "Rootsweb Review" newsletter. It should answer most, if not all, of the recent questions about AOL users not receiving their Rootsweb-based mail-list email. ...tim west... Scott Co, TN Coordinator for the TNGenWeb Project http://www.tngenweb.org/scott 1. NEWS AND NOTES. 1a. Solving Problems with AOL AOL and RootsWeb's mail-delivery issues were resolved after amicable communication and work with the Internet Service Provider. RootsWeb thanks the postmaster group at AOL for its work with us on the various issues that were involved. AOL users are encouraged to re-check their subscriptions to mailing lists at PasswordCentral -- click on the PASSWORD tab at the top of the RootsWeb Home page: http://www.rootsweb.com/ Information and instructions for mailing lists can be found by clicking on MAILING LISTS tab at http://www.rootsweb.com/ 1b. AOLers and RootsWeb: New List and Some Tips Since AOL subscribers make up a large percentage of our mailing list members, RootsWeb has created a new mailing list that is being announced today. The mailing list is named AOLers-RootsWeb. It is to assist AOL users with questions related to their use of the RootsWeb mailing lists. Hopefully this new resource will help to forestall any future difficulties from arising between AOL and the RootsWeb mailing lists. The new list may also prove helpful to RootsWeb list administrators who are not AOL subscribers in answering questions for their list members who do use AOL. It will provide a place to direct AOL users where they can obtain accurate up-to-date information and assistance with RootsWeb mailing list issues that are specific and unique to AOL users. You will find this new mailing list categorized on the mailing list webpage at http://lists.rootsweb.com under OTHER/RootsWeb Support/ The direct link is: [This is a 2-line URL; copy and paste carefully]: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/RootsWeb_Support/ AOLers-RootsWeb.html During the past week or so RootsWeb mailing list subscribers who use AOL (America Online) as their ISP (Internet Service Provider) to receive list mail experienced a disruption of service that lasted several days. Family history researchers, who are often addicted to their daily "fix" of mail from their favorite RootsWeb lists, began sending e-mails to their lists in an attempt to ascertain whether or not the lists were working, for some, alarm set in. Don't panic if RootsWeb's list mail doesn't appear to be reaching your mailbox as it normally should. Instead, do the following: 1. Check the HelpDesk's yellow announcement box for news of any technical problems at RootsWeb or with your ISP's delivery of list mail from RootsWeb. http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ or click on HELP tab at the top of any RootsWeb page. 2. Check your currently subscribed lists here: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ or click on the PASSWORDS tab at the top of any RootsWeb page. 3. Check the threaded mailing list archives to view the current month/year messages for your lists at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ 4. Contact the list administrator for help or information by writing to: LISTNAME-admin@rootsweb.com (replace the word LISTNAME with the actual name of the list -- using no -L or -D). NOTE: If there is a general problem involving RootsWeb mail delivery to a specific ISP and the list administrator to whom you are writing also uses the same ISP, he/she probably will not receive your inquiry for the duration of the problem with that ISP. 5. Contact your ISP's tech support representative and explain that RootsWeb list mail is not spam and this is e-mail you wish to receive. Enlist the support of your ISP in resolving the matter. Internet Service Providers should be more than willing to assist you -- their paying customer -- so that you are able to receive the mail you want. Here is what NOT to do if you suspect you are not receiving your mailing list messages: 1. Do not send repeated messages to the list asking if the list is working or if anyone has received your message. 2. Do not send any "TESTING" messages to a list. Remember that just because you are not receiving a message you have sent to the list doesn't mean that other list subscribers are not seeing your repeated messages and becoming annoyed by them. The mailing lists are for genealogical research for a specific subject and not for test messages. Use the above guidelines instead to help resolve any non- receipt of mail problems. You will find guidelines concerning non-receipt of RootsWeb list mail in a recent issue of the RootsWeb Review. You might want to print out this information and save for handy reference. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/review/20040107.txt

    3. Tim, The death certificates have the county and certificate # on them. I am sorting them in folders by counties. I don't have the reel numbers. The library here has copies of the original death certificates for TN. I live 45 minutes from the State Archives and used to get them there. I have deeds too. These were collected from the original books when we made trips to Scott & Morgan Counties and they are labeled. I contribute heavily to the Montgomery CO site, because this is where I live. I usually make the pictures around 5 or 6 inches and that works for the web site. 90% of the graphics on the site were done by me. I scan individual's material and submit it in their name. The web administrator lives in South Carolina so when she needs something, she contacts me and I get it for her. I am going to put things in individual folders before I start sending. sandra -----Original Message----- From: Julie [mailto:janncromwell@highland.net] Sent: Wednesday, February 04, 2004 4:17 AM To: TNMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNMORGAN] Need help identifying cemeteries Thanks Tim for your help!! 3. Yes. Oops. Made a mistake. I mistakenly told you they were buried in the Montgomery Cemetery, outside Wartburg. I just so happens there is a William R. and a Mary E. McCartt buried at Montgomery Cemetery. I just relooked at they are father and daughter. My mistake sorry about that.. Thanks Sandra for clearing that up. ...tim... 3. Sandra, If you have the death certificates and obits, I can post the Scott Co ones on my website (i.e., those that died or were born in Scott Co). I already have several thousand obits posted and almost 400 death certificates posted. A few more would be welcome. The only stipulation is I will need to know the newspaper name and publication date for the obits. For the death certificates, I will need to know to microfilm catalog info for the library of state department from which the DC came. The DC image is also best when captured at 200 DPI with a size of 800 pixels wide (and whatever length maintains the aspect ratio). Why? While it makes the images harder to email, it allows me to manipulate the pic for maximum display quality without incurring pixelation problems. You can send both the Scott and Morgan Co DC's to me and I will fix them up for both my website and for Julie's. ...tim... Sandra Stacey wrote: >Hi, > I sent my cousins a copy of this email. 1. [TNMORGAN] Obits From The Oak Ridger 3 Feb 2004
    2. >From Yhe Oak Ridger 3 Feb 2004 Jeffrey Michael Black, 46, Ruby Lee Green, 82, of LaFollette, K.O. Pearson, 77, of Oak Ridge, \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Jeffrey Michael Black, 46, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at his home in Oakland, Calif. Born Sept. 14, 1957, in Oak Ridge, he was the son of Colleen Black of Oak Ridge and the late Clifford H. Black. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School, Jefferson Junior High School and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1975. After graduation, Mr. Black pursued a career in art, studying in Nashville, Atlanta, Ga., and San Francisco, Calif. Mr. Black was a sculptor. According to his family, he recycled trash from the streets - auto parts, hair rollers, plastic bottles, cardboard, bits of paper, and discarded trinkets and toys - into hotels, churches, banks, terminals, restaurants and historical citys capes. Many of his works are based on the historic past, while others are a bit whimsical and strictly imaginary. His family said all of his art is environmentally correct and his aim was to help clean up the environment by turning trash into art. His family said he had a knack for scavenging and finding discarded objects along city streets and byways. He would gather his objects d'art on his early morning walks around Union Square, Nob Hill, the Mission District, Richman District, Market Square and the Tenderloin. His finds were then cleaned, taped and glued together, using a process he called "Taper Mache," his family said. He taped, glued and painted the trash into a mixed media of brightly colored sculpture that he wired and lit from within. According to his family, one of his favorite sculptures, "The Columbia," stands six feet tall and is standing in his mother's sunroom. It was a gift for her 70th birthday. His family said the giant sculpture is the focal point of the room, and became the first of his series of San Francisco's historical hotel sculptures. His family said he was always interested in history and art and he loved the history and architecture of large cities, having grown up in Oak Ridge where the history started during World War II, and the tallest building in town was the old practice fire tower. In addition to his mother, Mr. Black is survived by seven brothers and sisters, David Black of Nashville, Suzanne and Pete Angelini of Oak Ridge, Becky Adams of Knoxville, Jennifer and Malcolm Burman of Atlanta, Mary Tara and Don Warner of Northport, Maine, Cliff and Nora Kidd Black of Tucson, Ariz., and Jayne Massoumi of Sarasota, Fla. He is also survived by eight nieces, Lena Adams of Knoxville, Isabella Angelini Stewart of Livermore, Calif., Haley Warner, Sierra Warner, Savannah Warner and Starr Warner, all of Northport, Soraya Massouni and Mariah Massouni, both of Sarasota; four nephews Joseph Angelini of Oak Ridge, Michael Adams of Boston, Mass., and Montana Burman and Kansas Burman, both of Atlanta; two grandnieces, Kaylan Adams Sudbury of Knoxville and Ariella Stewart of Livermore; and by one grandnephew, Dario Stewart of Livermore. A graveside service will be held in Livermore at a later date. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 327 Vermont Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Wilson Family Funeral Chapel in Livermore is in charge of arrangements. Ruby Lee Green, 82, of LaFollette, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Autumn Healthcare Center in Knoxville. She was a member of The Hill and Valley Garden Club, Home Demonstration Club and the Campbell County Historical Society. She was also a 4-H volunteer and a Pink Lady with the LaFollette Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Green was a Protestant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer E. Green, and by two sons, Boyd Green Sr. and Elmer Wayne Green. Mrs. Green is survived by her daughter-in-law, Wanda Green of Oak Ridge; two grandsons, Jason Green and wife, Amanda, of Kingston, and Lynn Green and wife, Cynthia, of Lenoir City; her granddaughter, Terri Lynn Davis of Kennesaw, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Green, Elizabeth Green, Samantha Green and Allison Green, all of Lenoir City, Chloe Green and Daryn Green, both of Kingston and Leslie Davis of Kennesaw; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Robbins of LaFollette and Beatrice Thompson of Clinton; and by several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, in the chapel of Walters Funeral Home in LaFollette. Family and friends will meet for burial at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Fincastle Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. K.O. Pearson, 77, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born April 29, 1926, in Lake County, he was the son of O'Neal and Rowena Kirk Pearson. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University, where he majored in mechanical engineering. He was a registered professional engineer and a member Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756. He was a long-time attendee of First Baptist Church. In 1985, Mr. Pearson retired from the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant. Mr. Pearson is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janice Pearson, a retired teacher from Glenwood Elementary School; a brother, Ted Pearson and wife, Linda, of Thompson Station; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Pearson of Tiptonville; a brother-in-law, Charles Bray and wife, G.G., of Jackson; and by several nieces and nephews. A Masonic service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary led by members of Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756. The funeral will follow at 8:15 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Ray Lloyd officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on the Oliver Springs Highway in Clinton. The family requests that any memorials be in the forms of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. ============================================ SUPPORT OUR TROOPS---FLY THE FLAG Count no day lost in which you have waited your turn, took only your share and sought advantage over no one.
