Hi Denise, My great grandfather, Bill Williams worked for a coal mining company at that time also but I am not sure if it was in Petros. I have had difficulty finding much info about him. His death cert says he was a retired coal miner, he died "of exhaustion from a broken spine" in 1913 in Oakdale. He had been under the care of a Dr. from Petros for 3 years, so I thought maybe a mining accident ? so thanks for asking your question maybe I will learn something too! Have your seen the Petros photos It looks to be a "company town" Big Brushy Coal and Coke is what it says on the photo, maybe there is more info somewhere because I think I read an article about the mines in Petros on-line somewhere. Good luck, Bev
Sounds good. I am going to see what I have that hasn't been scanned yet. Sandra -----Original Message----- From: Timothy N. Sorry. You are right. I just looked in my database. Your info sounds familiar. Did you get it from Bob Hamby? A good book on the Hamby's and Cross family is "A Goodly Heritage by Lee Gallery". The same info is in her book. I sent her some actual proof she didn't have, and she was generous enough to give me a copy of her book on CD. I am a MARTIN, MCCART, HAMBY, CROSS, LEE, PETERS and DEADMAN descendent. My Grandmother was Mary Elzada MCCART, Mary Ellen LEE was my g-grandmother, Adaline Elizabeth HAMBY was my 2nd g-grandmother Rebecca Sary CROSS was my 3rd g-grandmother, Hanah PETERS was my 3rd g-grandmother, Acil CROSS was my 4th g-grandfather, Temperance DEADMAN was my 4th g-grandmother. Sandra MARTIN Stacey
PROUD WIFE OF TENNESSEE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SGT. CURRENTLY IN KOSOVO!!!! Hi Georgeanne, First to Sandra, no Nancy did indeed marry Joseph McPeters not a Peters.I am researching the Peters line.My hubby descends from Tobias and Elizabeth Rachel Scarborough Peters. Now, Georgeanne, Temperance's birthdate is 17 Feb 1763, or so she stated in her pension application. She and Asel were married 21 Mar 1782 in Rowan Co.,NC. She died 19 Aug 1853 in Scott Co.,TN.Asel died 18 Oct 1818 in Wilkes Co.,NC. As for Sarah Sally Cross, the sister of Nancy, she married Henry Hamby on 29 Nov 1810.They both signed and testified for Temperance's pension application.Temperance also lived with them for several years, after Asel's death. She is in their home on the 1840 Morgan Co.,TN census. She stated in her testimony on her mother's pension application that she was the fourth child of Aseal and Temperance Cross. In her sister Rebecca's testimony she stated that Sarah was six years younger than she was.She stated that she was the oldest child of Asel and Temperance.Rebecca was born 2 May 1783 and married John Holdway on 14 Nov 1805.So, I don't know who the Sarah that you are talking about is, it could be that she was a McPeters and not a Cross. I don't have the complete pension file.I have Asel's will, and the inventory of his estate. It lists only five surviving children,Rebecca Holdway,Sarah Hamby,Nancy McPeters,Fanny Dickson, and A. H. Cross (my hubby's line). There was another male child that died young. He was on the 1790 Rowan Co.,NC.He wasn't on the 1800. Let me know if you need anything else. Cathy

Hi List: I am looking for the name of a coal mining company in Petros during the late 1890s and early 1900s. My great grandfather worked there and I would like to add the name of the company to my info. I sure hope there wasn't more than one in Petros! Thanks.
