She was born Nov. 24, 1971 in Bristol, Tn but had made her home in Mountain City, Tn all of her life prior to moving to Knoxville. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mountain City. A 1990 graduate of Johnson City High School and a 1995 graduate of E.T.S.U. having received a B.S. in Interior Design. She was the design director of Bluegreen Purchasing and Design Company of Knoxville. Preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Fred Beckett; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S.L. McGuire. Born April 27, 1918 in Hermitage, Tenn. to the late John and Della Logue Jennings. She graduated from Donaldson High School and attended Peabody College in Nashville and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She moved to Oak Ridge in 1946 and worked for the Atomic Energy Commission as a materials accountability clerk until 1953. She married Gordon McCook Herbert, September 3, 1949 at the First Baptist Church of Donalson and they lived in Oak Ridge until 1950, when they moved to a small farm in Solway and started a family. She was a charter member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Solway for 17 years and then a member of First Baptist Church, Oak Ridge from 1978 to present. She was a founding worker at the First Baptist Church Agape Benevolence Center. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Herbert Smith and grandsons, Spencer and Wesley Smith; daughter, Eleanor Herbert Wyatt and grandson, Nathaniel Wyatt and son, Joel J. Herbert. Also surviving are two sisters, Margaret Liddle and Thurman Harris; and brother, Paul Douglas Jennings. Previously deceased are husband, Gordon M. Herbert and daughter, Debbie Jennings Herbert. Services will be held Saturday, March 6, at the First Baptist Church Oak Ridge, Dr. Raymond Lloyd Pastor presiding. >From The Oak Ridger 5 Mar 2004 Linnie Cleveland Coleman, a 100-year-old resident of Oliver Springs and formerly of Rockwood, Wauldine Jennings Hebert, 85, Sherry Ann DeLong Hendrickson, 52, of Oliver Springs, Minnie Ball Henry, 97, of Oak Ridge, Robert Moore, 79, of Wartburg, Dean Nelson, 65, of Clinton, \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Linnie Cleveland Coleman, a 100-year-old resident of Oliver Springs and formerly of Rockwood, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at her home. Born May 15, 1903, in Loudon County, she was the daughter of the late Will Cleveland and Emma Cannon Cleveland. After her marriage to her late husband, Raymond Eskridge Sr., she moved to Rockwood. Mrs. Coleman was a faithful member of Phillippi Primitive Baptist Church of Rockwood. And, she was a field agent and actively involved in the women's auxiliary of the church. She also served as an association delegate for her church. Employed as a cook at the Dixie Café of Rockwood for many years, Mrs. Coleman also cooked at the Bean Box for several years. Her hobbies included gardening and sewing. Mrs. Coleman's family described her as a homemaker, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband, James Coleman; a son, Raymond Eskridge Jr.; and two sons-in-law, Clifford McKinley Jones and William Smith. Mrs. Coleman is survived by two daughters, Rosetta E. Jones of Rockwood and Margaret E. Smith of Harriman; a daughter-in-law, Anna Rose Eskridge of Oliver Springs; 11 grandchildren, Curtis L. Eskridge Harold T. Jones and Donald Jones, all of Rockwood, McKinley Jones of California, David Jones, Laura A. Dean, Delores A. Born Dec. 10, 1923, in Jackson, Mo., he was the son of Arthur and Hattie Kruger Kasten. Mr. Kasten graduated from Rolla University in Missouri with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in chemical engineering. He also earned a doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota. Mr. Kasten served in the Merchant Marines in the South Pacific during World War II. He came to Oak Ridge in 1950 to begin working at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he worked on reactor programs nationally and internationally, including work in Taiwan, China, Brazil and India. His family said he especially enjoyed his work with the German reactor program. According to his family, Mr. Kasten also enjoyed playing the piano, gardening and playing tennis. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Kasten and Albert Kasten. He was born March 18, 1951, in Chattanooga. Mr. Moore graduated from East Brainerd High School and played pitcher for his baseball team. He attended the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. He was employed at Trotter Buick in Chattanooga as parts manager for 15 years. In 1988, Mr. Moore moved to Knoxville and married Becky Minturn of Oak Ridge. In 1990, he started a mail order hobby shop business named Boat South that specialized in remote control boats and parts. He designed, built and raced boats, as well as sold parts. He also took his hobby shop to regional boat races to sell parts needed for the boats. Boat South had customers around the world in Australia, France, Canada and others along the United States. His family said he was very successful and well known in the boating industry and community. In 1997, Mr. Moore and his wife adopted their only son, Casey Khang from Vietnam. His family said his greatest joy and passion was spending time with his son. According to his family, Mr. Moore had loads of fun teaching his son math, reading, chess, cards and other interests. His family said every weekend they would take his vista cruiser boat on the lake, go fishing, have bon fires, swim, eat and meet and make new friends. Mr. Moore also enjoyed bass fishing, taking his son to Orlando, Fla., and spending time with his friends and family, his family said. In addition to his wife and 7-year-old son, Mr. Moore is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Jean Moore; two sisters, Debbie Steele and husband, Joe, and Diane Clibrey; and his brother Kenny Moore, all of Chattanooga. He is also survived by his in-laws, Bob and Ginny Minturn; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Mary Minturn, of Oak Ridge; his sister-in-law, Nancy Minturn and David Landau of Knoxville; his brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Pam Minturn, of Mount Vernon, Ill.; and by 10 nieces and nephews and a grandniece and grandnephew. A celebration of life service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004, at the chapel of First Baptist Church Concord in Farragut with the Rev. Steve Peek officiating. Mr. Coker operated an Esso Service Station in Oliver Springs in the early 1940's. He was a veteran of WWII serving his country in the Pacific Theater. He operated Coker Bus Line in the early 1940's which transported workers to Oak Ridge for the Manhattan Project. In 1951 he helped establish Walls and Coker Trucking Company, Inc. He was also instrumental in other various mining and coal related projects spanning over 35 years prior to his retirement. He was involved in local real estate development and served as an Oliver Springs City Councilman and in other civic projects. Esther Irene Thomas Shuey died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at her home. Born Dec. 5, 1914, in Paintsville, Ky., she was the daughter of Richard Collins and Mary Harry Thomas. She graduated from Morehead State University as a music and English major. She met and married fellow Morehead graduate, John W. Shuey Sr. from Delphi, Ind., on Jan. 16, 1937. They later moved to Oak Ridge in 1943. Mrs. Shuey was one of Oak Ridge's first Camp Fire Girls leader in 1948 and formed the city's first Blue Bird group in 1950. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in leading the children's choir for many years. She also participated in many community events including the Oak Ridge Jaycees Follies, Oak Ridge Playhouse and performed at the Back Door Pizza Parlor to the joy of all who heard her performances, according to her family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Harriet Shuey; a son-in-law, Same E. Shell; two brothers, Wildan and Harry; three sisters, Lillian, Marianna and Marjorie; and by a special loving friend, Doris Keeton. He retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory as an electrical engineer and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Mr. Wright was a member of the Oak Ridge Historical Society, Sertoma Club, Quarter Century Wireless Association, Elks Club, Moose Lodge, Oak Ridge Amateur Radio Club, Morgan County Radio Club and the Anderson County Jail Committee. He was also a Ham Radio Operator for 52 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William T. Wright and R.B. Wright, and by a sister, Fay Wright Prichard. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, Merilyn Barnhill Wright; three nephews, Colin Wright of St. Louis, Mo., Kevin Wright of Chattanooga and Devon Prichard of Virginia Beach, Va.; and by three nieces, Jeanne Prichard of California, and Carol Prichard and Donna Prichard, both of San Diego, Calif. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2004, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Mike Winters officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens on the Oliver Springs Highway in Clinton. Military rites will be provided by East Tennessee Veteran Honor Guard. Phil Mehlhorn, James M. McCloud, Colin Wright, Randall Burris, Devon Prichard, and Brian Lester will serve as pallbearers, and William Prichard, Toe Miller, David Rogers, Everette Wright and Kevin Wright will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to St. Mary's residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Paul R. Kasten of Oak Ridge died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at his home. The 4th Annual Scott Co, TN Researchers Get-Together will be held Thursday, 17 Jun 2004, in Oneida at the First Trust and Savings Bank on Main Street. The Get-Together will start around 10:00 a.m. and go until we give up. If you have research interests in the Scott Co, TN area (and adjoining counties) then this is the event for you. Last year was a tremendous time and we exchanged a lot of useful information. Anyone and everyone researching families with ties to Scott Co are welcome. So come prepared to shared your histories, pictures, and stories about the history of your family. Most importantly, come prepared to share your friendship. Parking is in the rear of the building. Use of the room will still cost us $35. We will set out a contribution plate to cover the cost of the room plus food and drink. Contributions over and above our expenses will be contributed to the Scott County Historical Society. Please let us know if you will be attending so we can plan appropriately.
