    1. [TNMORGAN] RE: Lost Briefcase
    2. Julie
    3. Hello everyone... Thought I'd let you know that the lost brief case has been returned to it's owner. It was found along the side of the road near the Adam's Hill Cemetery in the northern part of Morgan County. The owner was a lady from Indiana who was here doing research and inadvertently left the case on her tailgate after loading a camera and then drove to Elizabeth Cemetery. She did discover it missing and returned to Adam's Hill area, but could not find it after traveling the road back and forth several times.. It had already been found and taken to the Deer Lodge postmistress. So glad it was returned to her. I know we all would just be sick to lose all our hard work. Julie

Santoro, 68, of Kingston, died Monday, March 8, 2004, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. According to his family, he was a leading world expert in nuclear radiation research, a retired colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve and a long-time distinguished scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. During his 46 years in the field of theoretical, analytic and experimental nuclear physics and engineering, Mr. Santoro authored or co-authored more than 390 professional reports and journal articles and frequently presented papers at scientific meetings around the world. Among his many accomplishments, he was elected Fellow in the American Nuclear Society, and he co-authored a handbook for spacecraft designers that estimated effects of space radiation on astronauts. His calculations determined shielding design criteria for high-energy accelerators at the Fermi Lab, Brookhaven National Laboratory and the Harry Diamond Laboratories. He also developed techniques for using charged and neutral particle radiation in cancer radiotherapy. In 1993, Mr. Santoro was selected by the Department of Energy to serve as a senior member of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor Joint Central Team at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching, Germany. In 1994, he was appointed to lead the ITER Nuclear Analysis Group and was responsible for all of the nuclear analysis of ITER systems and management of ITER integral experiment programs being performed in Europe and Japan. After five years in Germany, Mr. Santoro returned to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Computational Physics and Engineering Division, where he assumed leadership roles in several programs with the U.S. Army Nuclear and Chemical Agency, U.S. Army National Ground Intelligence Center, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. Mr. Santoro played a key role in an international effort that resulted in the resolution of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki dose reconstruction discrepancy that has lingered for almost 50 years. He also served on the NATO panel that sets policy for all NATO force operations in nuclear environments. "He is an enormously creative, productive and enthusiastic researcher," Dan Ingersoll, former head of ORNL's Nuclear Analysis and Shielding Section, once wrote about him. Joe Pace, a co-worker at ORNL for more than 30 years, said, "He had a rare combination of technical skills and leadership ability - honesty, congeniality and common sense." Mr. Santoro was also a highly decorated army officer. His awards include the Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service medals, four Army Reserve Components Achievement medals, three Army Commendation medals, three Army Reserve medals and the National Defense Service medal, among others. Mr. Santoro was a 1958 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He made Oak Ridge his home from the time he was a co-op student there in 1956 until his move to Germany in 1993. After returning, he and his wife, Janice Hildebrand Santoro, moved to a lakeside home in Kingston, where his family said he enjoyed fishing and boating, his favorite pastimes. Despite his highly technical background, with master's degrees in physics from the University of Tennessee and the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology, his family said he cultivated many lasting friendships with people from virtually every walk of life. According to his family, Mr. Santoro was a frequent early morning visitor at Brackett's Barbershop in Kingston, where he engaged locals in playful debates on politics, world events, race, religion, family and sports. Mr. Santoro was born July 24, 1935 in Newark, N.J. and grew up in nearby Little Silver, N.J. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Santoro. 1. [TNMORGAN] Hopy Frances CHAPMAN (nee BREEDLOVE)
    2. Georgeanne McPeters
    3. Hi all, Well, after working on census enumerations until my eyelids are twitching, I think that I have finally tracked down the 'definitive' BREEDLOVE-McPETERS connection. Well - I am hoping anyway . . . ;-) In the Kries cemetery book, I found Hopy Frances CHAPMAN buried at Union Cemetery and listed as the daughter of John and Martha McPETERS BREEDLOVE. Now this fits with the notes I had found in the minutes for Union Baptist Church and with the various census I had found for the couple. It also means that the information in the Kries book about Martha Irene BREEDLOVE's parents is in conflict. She and husband John BREEDLOVE were buried at Liberty. The notes in the Kries book list John M. & Sarah HAWN as her parents. Sooooo - I am hopeful SKS will know if a family bible for the CHAPMAN or BREEDLOVE family might still exist. I had seen that Pearl Ethel CHAPMAN, daughter of James and Hopy Frances was also buried at Union, in 1984, so I am wondering if she might have been in possession of the family bible. Of course, I am assuming she was the one who provided the notes regarding her mother's parents. Anyone have information about any of these families? I sure would love to hear from you! Regards, Georgeanne McPeters

    3. Connie William England *might have been* brother of Parthena ENGLAND, daughter of Wiley ENGLAND and Perninae MCCARTT, b: 22 Apr 1853, d: 22 Feb 1927. Parthena married Preston Human's son, Basil Human, on 29 Dec 1866 in Morgan County. I have a bit more on Basil & their kids but nothing much on Parthena. She is listed on 1860 morgan census with parents and a three year old brother, William. That would make his birth 1856/57, rather than 1850. I'd bet that this "William" is same guy that's listed in Wiley England's household in 1870 as "Titus" (maybe he was William Titus or Titus William) at age 14 and "your" William listed on 1880 as age 30.
