Crossville Chronicle obit... Roland Aytes March 25, 2004 The Rev. Roland Aytes, 93, formerly of the Frankfort community, passed away March 25, 2004 in the Cumberland County Medical Center. He was a resident of The Cumberland Ridge Assisted Living Center. He was a Methodist minister for more than 40 years in the Holstan Conference, with 18 years in Dandridge. Survived include his children, Elise Hook of Baton Rouge, LA; Willis Aytes of Knoxville; Anna Aytes of Denver, CO; and Costen Aytes of Denver, CO; sisters, Ruth Lee and Roberta Wampler; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Laura Neskaug Aytes, his wife of more than 50 years. Funeral services were conducted March 29 from the chapel of Schubert Funeral Home of Wartburg. Interment followed in the Frankfort Church Cemetery. Schubert Funeral Home of Wartburg was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, April 1, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Evans Mortuary of Rockwood, with the Rev. Larry Treadway and Chaplain Joe Nilsen officiating. Mr. Lemons dedicated his life to God a few months ago. He was employed as a subcontractor for Fairfield Glade and had retired from Lemons' Audio Visual. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict where he earned a National Defense Service Medal. He was also a member of the Tennessee National Guard. He was a former member of the Shriners with Al Mennah Temple. He was an avid golfer and loved to play, but his family came first. He loved to watch his cattle and his dog "Easy Money," which was once on the top of his list. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Marie Lemons of Spring City; son, Mike Lemons of Spring City; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Mike Bowman of Cookeville; father, Hugh Franklin Lemons Sr. of Spring City; grandsons, Brian Bowman and Justin Bowman of Cookeville; stepchildren, Shane Phillips and his wife, Shannon, and Shawn Phillips and his wife, Mary, all of Cookeville; step-grandchildren, Emily Phillips, Amanda Phillips, Melanie Phillips and Nathan Phillips; special aunts, Betty Jiles and Nell Treadway, both of Rockwood; and a host of special family members, friends and golfing buddies. Born June 15, 1914, in Scott County in Virginia, she was the daughter of O.A. and Callie Mae Franklin. According to her family, Mrs. Compton was a homemaker, a wonderful mother and a committed Christian. She was a former member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church and a present member of First Baptist Church in Morristown. Her husband, Charles I. Compton, and three brothers, also died earlier. In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Compton is survived by two daughters, Louise Woods and husband, Lennis, of Morristown, and Carolyn McConnell and husband, Bill, of Knoxville; her son, Norman Compton and wife, Martha, of Plano, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Moretz, of Kingsport; a brother, J.K. Franklin, of Johnson City; and by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Valeria Nemes and her family for their excellent care for the last two years. Norman Douglas Farrow, 61, of Oliver Springs, died Monday, March 29, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born May 1, 1942, in Birmingham, Ala., he was the son of Louise Jennings Farrow, now deceased, and Ellis Daniel Farrow of Birmingham. Mr. Farrow graduated from Oregon State University. He served with the U.S. Army National Guard and was employed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he was a senior research technologist. Mr. Farrow was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for eight years and then a member of Central Baptist Church for the past 18 years. According to his family, Mr. Farrow wholeheartedly applied his energy to his personal relationship with Jesus Christ, loving his family and faithfully serving his employer. His brother, Ed E. Farrow, and his son, Michael Douglas Farrow, also died earlier. His son died in 1981. In addition to his father, Mr. Farrow is survived by his wife of 38 years, Elizabeth Teresa Mitcham Farrow; two sons, Brian Norman Farrow of Oliver Springs and Nathan Douglas Farrow, a student at Tennessee Technological University; and by his daughter, Teresa Leigh Barron and husband, David Michael, of Clinton. "Bill" Aaron, 78, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Dec. 7, 1925, in DuBois, Pa., he was the son of Harold J. and Nelle Wilson Aaron. Mr. Aaron was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, in combat areas including the Battle of the Bulge, and was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. While living in Pennsylvania, he was involved in construction and sales. He moved to Oak Ridge about 20 years ago and worked part-time as a carrier for the News Sentinel, Knoxville. During this period, he worked nearly seven years without missing a day's delivery. He also worked as a maintenance man for Auburn Hills apartments. According to his family, Mr. Aaron was very involved in the lives of and loved by his children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors at Auburn Hills. He is survived by three sons, W. Scott Aaron and wife, Ann, of Clinton, David G. Aaron and wife, Nancy, of Monroeville, Pa., and Michael J. Aaron and wife, Patti, of St. Marys, Pa.; his daughter, Jean M. LONG, DONALD L. - age 59 of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away March 23, 2004, following a short but courageous battle with cancer. He retired in 2002 as the Plant Manager of Boeing Oak Ridge after a 36 year career with the company. Prior to that he was with the Boeing Company in Seattle as the Director of Operations and Director of Manufacturing for the 767/747 divisions at the Everett Plant. He was raised on a farm in Lamar, Co. and never forgot his connection to the earth and to the values of being raised in that environment. Don was an outgoing individual who was generous with his friendship in his professional as well as his personal life. He faced challenges directly and decisively however difficult the situation. He had unconditional love for his family and friends. After retirement his major interest was riding his Harley-Davidson, his dream machine, and he was able to have some memorable rides with close friends and biking buddies. Don was never afraid to do the things that he loved and pursue his dreams. And most of them came true!! He loved to laugh and share good times. He will be missed by those who were lucky enough to have called him husband, brother, uncle and friend. Don was preceded in death by: his daughter and only child, Lisa; his parents, Herbert and Stella Long; parents-in-law, Tom and Joyce Brantley.
