There's a community in Cumberland County called Browntown. May I suggest reading "Doctor Woman of the Cumberlands" by May Cravath Wharton, M.D. "Hit were my pappy," he (George "Pink" Brown - age 90) said, named the place Browntown and give it a start. I had seven brothers and seven sisters and they all married and stayed right here. Ever' time one'd marry the rest would jine up and build the couple a log cabin." On the front page you'll find a simple keyword search for obituaries and guestbooks. You can search all papers or narrow them down by state. You can also browse the available newspapers' obituary sections by state. I chose Kansas and found there were two obituary sections available. Choose one and you'll go to that paper's Web site. If your genealogical research is concentrated on a specific area I recommend you do this, as most of the papers I looked at had 365 days' worth of obituaries, instead of only 30. The newspaper sites also offer other features, including signing up for daily obituary mailings, information on funeral homes in the newspapers area, and other end-of-life related information (which varied by newspaper.)
