I post obits also from the Stewart County/Houston County area and I post all the way up to last weeks obits since our particular newspaper is not online. There are many people all over the "Rootsweb World" that post obits and a lot of them are recent obits that even include 2007 obits. Newspaper obits are public records and the fact that you take your time to make them available to us on this list should be commended!! Bob was born August 25, 1928 in Harriman to the late James Robert Bunch, Sr. and Lillian Beatrice Whalen Bunch. He graduated from Oakdale High School in 1949 and served in the United States Air Force from 1949 until 1952. He graduated from the IBEW Apprenticeship school at Local 680 in Chattanooga and worked many jobs around the country before settling in Orange, Ca. in 1958. He was the Business Agent at Local 441, Santa Ana, Ca. and owned Bunch Electric for a number of years before his retirement. After spending several years in their camper along the Colorado River in Havasu, Ca., Bob and Rose returned home to attend many of the high school reunions at Oakdale. Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Patrick and Oddalee Bunch; one sister, Janice Bunch; and his grandparents, Patrick Montgomery Whalen and Mattie Florence Branham Whalen. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rose Marie Coakley Bunch; daughters Donna Maxfield, Peggy Nay and Rebecca and husband Fred E. A gifted storyteller and wit, she suffered a cruel blow in 1993 when she lost her larynx and voice to cancer. Undaunted, she became a counselor to other cancer survivors whose voices were removed, and she wrote a helpful booklet of tips and encouragement which is currently used both locally and at such medical centers as M.D.Anderson in Texas and the Harvard Medical School. He attended the College of Charleston, Clemson University and was a graduate of Ft. Belvoir School of Engineering. He served in the South Pacific during World War II, served in Berlin, Germany, Formosa, West Point, NY and various posts in the United States. He ended his career with the US Army in Tehran, Iran in 1962. Mr. Carter also retired as an engineer for the State of Tennessee. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Country Club, the Elks Lodge #1684, the Omar Shrine Temple of Charleston, SC and St. Stephens Episcopal Church of Oak Ridge. Robert was born in Knoxville on July 3, 1918, to Barbara and Weston Miller Fulton, and lived most of his life in Knoxville. He graduated from The McCallie School in Chattanooga in 1936. He completed his formal education at the University of Tennessee and Harvard Business School. While at UT he formed life-long friendships with fellow members of the SAE Fraternity. On September 15, 1942, he married Margaret McCready. He served in the Army Quartermaster Corps during WWII, and was discharged in 1945. He enjoyed attending classes at UT, hiking in Glacier National Park in Montana with his son, and in the Smoky Mountains with his daughter. He was a charter member of the Sequoyah Presbyterian Church, and at the time of his death was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Knoxville. He was also a member of the Cherokee Country Club, the Knoxville YMCA, and the Knoxville Men's Cotillion. Robert was preceded in death by: his wife, Margaret; his brother, Weston Fulton, Jr.; and his sisters, Barbara Gentry and Jean Talley. RODRIGUEZ, SPC MICHAEL (ROD) J. - 20, a fourth generation soldier, died April 23, 2007, while serving his country in Iraq. Michael attended Berean Christian School and Central High School, where he was active in many things (but not homwrk, misspelled on purpose because that's the way Michael would have done it) including the Navy JROTC program. He was born in Syracuse, NY on May 30, 1986 but loved Knoxville, TN and considered it his home town. In preparation for joining the U.S. Army Michael spent many hours starting fires, jumping out of trees and cooking and eating weeds. He practiced conservation of paper by rolling numerous homes and use of future military intelligence skills by hiding, losing, burying and having the lawn mower run over his homework. As all that knew Michael he had a loving heart and a great since of humor. In 2005, he joined the U.S. Army and was assigned to Bravo Troop, 5-73rd Calvary, and 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC to become a paratrooper. As an 82nd AA Paratrooper and Calvary Scout Michael knew that his mission in Iraq was making a difference. An American Paratrooper, except to protect the blood of Innocents or his Brothers, does not willingly give his life; it must be taken from him. Michael proudly earned the honor of wearing the Calvary Stetson and Spurs. Michael has been awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Action Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. Michael was preceded in death by his Aunt Joan Haynes (Hathead to Michael). He is survived by his loving mom, Dona L. Drake of Greensboro, NC, and father George T. He was born April 24, 1945, in Philadelphia, PA to Karl A. Seger II and Audrey Seger. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and attended Stranahan High School in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. At 18 he joined the U.S. Army and later completed Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. At the time he was the second youngest person ever to graduate from OCS. He was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. Karl received his bachelor's and master's degrees in experimental psychology at Florida Atlantic University. He was in the honorary society, Phi Kappa Phi, at Florida Atlantic. He received his PhD in organizational psychology at the University of Tennessee. In 1973 he founded Seger Consulting Group. He was an author, instructor, and consultant in the area of security, specializing in the utility industry as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement and intelligence. He published several books in the areas of power theft, anti-terrorism, and computer crime. His expertise in these areas was sought internationally. A saxophone player since his teens and avid jazz fan, he previously served on the board of the Knoxville Jazz Society. Survivors include: his wife of 42 years, Suzanne M. NORITAKE, HENRY MASAMI - 85 of Oak Ridge, died from heart related problems, April 25, 2007 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born May 3, 1921 in Seattle, Washington to the late Yoshikazu and Asaji Noritake. His parents emigrated from Japan in 1915. Henry received Bachelor and Master Degrees in Chemistry from the University of Michigan. He was a member of several Honorary Societies: Tau Beta Pi (Engineering), Phi Lambda Upsilon (Chemistry), Sigma XI (Science) and recipient of Gemmel Scholarship for Engineers and the Phi Lambda Upsilon Award. In his junior year at Michigan he was selected by the Chemistry Department faculty as the highest ranking chemical engineer student. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving from 1945-47. Completing a course for Special Agents at the Counter Intelligence Training School, Henry served as part of the WWII occupation force under General McArthur in Japan. In 1948, he joined the Owens-Illinois Glass General Research and Development Division in Toledo, Ohio. It was in Toledo that he met Jessemae Myers. After their marriage in 1953, they moved to Oak Ridge where he was employed by the Union Carbide Chemical Corp. at the K-25 Gaseous Diffusion Plant. His work included all aspects of uranium enrichment operations. He took advantage of the numerous technical/research seminars available at such institutions as MIT and earned an MS in Science from the University of Tennessee. He was proud of his engineering profession and found Oak Ridge the place he wanted to make his home. He retired from the K-25 plant in 1994 after 40 years of service. Henry was involved as a volunteer in the following organizations: one of the founders for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), serving during the tax season for more than 20 years; served as monitor for the Recording for the Blind; member of the Oak Ridge Lions Club; completed training course to be a certified judge for Collegiate Rowing Events to assist in the Oak Ridge Rowing Assoc. regattas; elected for two-year term as Commander of the Oak Ridge Power Squadron, earning a Sr. Navigator rating; coached girls' basketball and softball teams, aided Atomic City Aquatic Club (ACAC) activities. In his leisure time, he enjoyed sailing, camping and traveling with his family. He and his wife were 30-year members of the Let's Dance Club, Play Reading Group, activities and programs at the Chapel on the Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Cyrus Noritake, a metallurgist at the Seattle Boeing plant. He is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Jessemae; daughter and son-in-law, Drs. His passion for education and teaching began in 1967 as a teacher for Knoxville City Schools and continued through many venues. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wyman "Ted" Campbell on January 2, 1994. Dahlia was affectionately called "Dal" by family and friends and always had a smile for everyone. She was a gentle soul, but had enormous strength from her faith and was assertive when necessary. Dal was truly a "steel magnolia." Dal worked from her early teens as a waitress; then went on to drafting in Texas during the war, worked for an attorney in Tennessee; and completed her working career in Morgan City and Patterson as a bookkeeper in the shrimping and automotive business. Dal loved reading the Bible and her church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Berwick, Louisiana where she served as treasurer for many years and the United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She was a dedicated caregiver for her parents, brother, and husband. Her true spirit encompassed the love she had for all who encountered her. Even though she lived in chronic pain within the last years of her life, her courage and perseverance to remain independent was an inspiration to her family and friends. Her family is thankful that she is finally in peace with her beloved Father. Interment will follow in Morgan Memorial Gardens, Wartburg, TN. DYKSTRA, JOE JR. - passed away April 23, 2007. He was born on June 6, 1921, to Joe and Anna Dykstra in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Joe graduated from Grinnell College in Iowa, where he was the first student to letter in three sports: football, basketball, and track. After graduating in 1943, Joe started working for Hooker Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls, New York, where he did preliminary work for the Manhattan Project. In April, 1945, he moved to Oak Ridge to help with the start-up of the Gaseous Diffusion plant. He worked there until the plant closed in 1985. In March, 1946, Joe married Nettie Baxter in Niagara Falls. She preceded him in death in 1999. In addition to his wife, Joe was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles and Robert Dale. After retirement, he did consulting work at all three plants. He was a charter member of CORRE (Coalition of Oak Ridge Retired Employees). He also worked with Partnership for K-25 Preservation (PKP). Survivors include: daughter, Janet and granddog, Elizabeth (Knoxville), son Douglas and wife Juanita (Dandridge); grandsons, Thomas and wife Kira (Augusta, Georgia) and Andrew (Knoxville) and special friends, Cranor and Elene Elrod and Ed Krieg. GUINN, REVA BAILEY - age 95 of Knoxville, died Monday morning, April 23, 2007. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and teacher. Born in Jefferson County, TN, she graduated from UT Knoxville with a BS degree in home economics. During her college years, she taught school in Hardin Valley, and it was there that she met Henry A. Guinn, whom she later married. Reva's first full-time employment after college was as a home demonstration agent for the UT Extension Service in rural West Tennessee, at Brownsville. After 4-1/2 years, she left the home demonstration job and returned to Knoxville to be married to Henry. They built a home on East Redbud Drive where they lived together until Henry's death in 1984, and Reva continued to live there until 1998. Reva's career as a teacher of home economics spanned more than thirty years, first at Central High School and then at Young High School, from which she retired in 1977. She was passionate about the value of education and had a lifelong love of learning; and she worked diligently to instill those values in her students, along with skills in cooking, sewing and tailoring, and homemaking. Both Reva and Henry were active and supportive members of Central United Methodist Church, where she served as president of the United Methodist Women. She was active in professional educational organizations, and served on the board of directors of Knoxville YWCA, which named her its Volunteer of the Year in 1992. Reva was preceded in death by: her husband of 46 years, Henry A. Guinn; sister, Edith B. Haynes; and brothers, Sam P. Bailey and Herman R. Bailey. She is survived by: her daughter, Betsy G. Foster and son-in-law Bruce Foster, of Knoxville; grandchildren, Elizabeth Bailey Foster and Benjamin E. Foster and great-grandson, Henry Nicholas Foster-Tobin, all of San Francisco, CA. She was recognized as a master teacher and worked with the University of Tennessee College of Education to supervise student teachers. She taught at McCallie, Lonsdale, Sam Hill and Lincoln Park Schools. She was a charter member of Cumberland Baptist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She grew up in Williamsburg, KY, graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1942 and then Cumberland College in 1944. She received a B.S. degree in Education from the University of Tennessee in 1952. She taught the children of U.S. military personnel in Europe in 1955. Preceded in death by: parents, Dr. J.M. Poynter and Ethel Snyder Poynter of Williamsburg. Wilson 51, Wartburg, who leaves several well-known Clinton relatives, died Friday morning in Oak Ridge Hospital after a short illness. He was the father of Allyn Wilson, son of Mrs. Charles H. Wilson and sister of Mrs. Frank Davis, all of Clinton, Mrs. Davis is the wife of the retired principal of Lake City Elementary School. Wilson was a life-long resident of Morgan County and worked for Knoxville moving and storage compnay. He leaves his wife, four sons, two daughters and a grandson. Services were Sunday and burial was in Union Cemetery near Coalfield.
