A long-time Clinton resident, Jack was born and grew up in Corbin, Kentucky where he apprenticed as a machinist on the L&N Railroad. He moved to Clinton in 1954 when he began working for Union Carbide at the Y12 plant in the Gage Lab and the Development Division, first as a machinist, and later as a mechanical engineer. He holds several patents from his work there. After retiring from Martin Marietta in 1987, he was hired at UT where he enjoyed working for the College of Engineering until 1992. He was a person who truly loved life and people. His family said he loved his work and his coworkers, and it showed in the close relationships he developed over the years. Outside of work, he took pleasure in working in his garage, especially if he was fixing something for someone. He built the house his family lived in for forty-three years. He also enjoyed sports, and was an ardent UK basketball fan. He reveled in watching his sons play high school ball, and he coached his daughter's softball team and his son's basketball team, and later enjoyed his grandson's semi-pro baseball career. He treasured the time he spent with his children and grandchildren, and he had a close extended family. He was truly devoted to his wife, Helen, who survives him. He cherished their 65-year relationship. Their 62-year marriage is an inspiration to their children grandchildren. He is survived by his four children, daughters, Kathy Uzzle and her husband, Mike, of Oak Ridge, 'Trish Peck and her husband, Bill, of Athens, and his sons, Mark Brown, and his wife, Kim, of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Todd Brown, and his wife, Becky, of Knoxville; nine grandchildren, Wesley Peck and his wife, Susan, and Bryan Peck and his wife, Carrie, all of Antioch, Tiffany Peck of Knoxville, Susan and Sara Beth Uzzle of Oak Ridge, Emily and Molly Brown of Mooresville, NC, and Madison and Jack Brown of Knoxville; and many loved nieces and nephews and friends and neighbors. An athlete in his youth, he was Knoxville's city tennis champion in 1946 and attended the University of Tennessee on a football scholarship. After serving two years in the Army, Tom married Eva Ruth Ingle and worked for several years as a sprinklerfitter, traveling the country. He next worked as an insurance salesman, then was active for 18 years in Knoxville's art community. He was manager at Campus Bookstore and was instrumental in the establishment of Rechenbach's Art Gallery. He partnered with Martin Baker and Jim Gray to open Crossroads Art Gallery in 1969, the foundation of what has since become the flourishing Homberg Place. He made a significant contribution to the burgeoning art community in the region. After the Gallery closed in 1974, he became a quality control supervisor at Allied Chemical. He found his later work teaching disadvantaged young adults about home repair for Community Action Committee very fulfilling. He retired from CAC in 1986. Yes. Her father, Junior Walker, was my first cousin; making Becky my second cousin. Also, her mother, Georgia, divorced Junior and some years later Georgia married my brother, Leroy Daniels. Both Georgia and Leroy have passed away. Leroy died shortly after Georgia died. And I'm the worlds worst with dates, but I believe it was in 1998. I know they both died before my mother did. My Mother was Edith Walker Daniel Hamby. My father was Jessie Roy Daniel. He and my mother divorced in the late 1950's. Both remarried, Daddy to a lady that lived in Clinton. They have both passed away. My mother remarried to S.V. (Sylvester) Hamby. He passed away in 1964. I have five sisters still living: Velva England (Sunbright), Iola Hamby (Wartburg), Bonnie Bates (Lancing), Faye Robbins (Kingston) , and Ruth Scarborough (Lancing). We lived in Wartburg for 27 years; moved to Lenoir City in 1999. I married Bobby G. Human. He was born at Mill Creek (Sunbright). We have one daughter, Crystal Leho, and two granddaughters, Peyton and Katie. So now you know, as Paul Harvey says, "the rest of the story".
