He is proceeded in death by his parents Otis P Dunn and Stella McKay Dunn. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Jan) Lowe Dunn; sister, Katherine Jean Dunn of Atlanta, Ga.; his daughter and son-in-law, Paula Marie Dunn and Ken Shelton; daughter, Sheila Dunn Satterfield of Coral Springs, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Cheri Goodwin Britton and Chris Britton of Asheville; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Karen Goodwin; grandchildren Courtney Nicole Dunn, Benjamin Paul (Beau) Dyer, Sawyer Abigail Britton, Noah Christopher Britton and Parker Elliott Goodwin. Paul entered the Knoxville Fire Department (KFD) in 1963 and in 1974 he was appointed as the Fire Department's first Safety Officer. During his service with Department, he served on the Pension Board and the Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad Board. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Fountain City Lions Club and the Gideons. Paul Dunn, aka Daddy, Cap-N, P-Dub, Pops, Poppy, the General and Paulwayne left his indelible mark on all those who have known him. He was a profound model of servant leadership; as fire captain, father, grandfather, friend, volunteer and humanitarian. He was a simple man, living a life of diligence and commitment. He was a jokester, bringing his unique style of humor to everything and everyone he touched. He was a firefighter to his core, personifying the dignity, service and honor of his brotherhood and served as a shining example to all those he served with and for him. Paul will be missed by friends and family alike. He has provided all who knew and loved him a map for a fulfilling life. VOHS, LESTER JOHN - age 86 of Knoxville, died on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at his residence. He was a member of the Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. The son of German immigrants, he followed his father's example by serving this country in military combat. As a Pathfinder C-47 pilot, he dropped Pathfinder paratroopers to begin the invasion of Europe in WW II. He flew Pathfinder missions in Holland, the Rhine and Bastogne. He remained in the U.S. Air Force serving as a test pilot at the All-Weather Flying Center, and as a pilot in the Thunderstorm Project and the Hurricane Hunters. He also served as Commander and Operations Officer of the 29th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, flying the F-94C jet fighter. While on duty with the Airways Modernization Board, he sponsored a project which enabled aircraft operators to define the most efficient flight profile and install these in the air traffic control system. The concept of operationally desirable flight profiles is still in use today. He obtained a BS degree from the University of Maryland. After retirement as a Major, he studied construction engineering at the Technische Hochschule, Munich, Germany. He was employed by the Florida State Road Department as an engineer. He was the survey engineer on 22 bridges and associated roadways on the Homestead Extension of the Florida Turnpike. Later, he was a yacht measurer of racing sailboats in the Eastern U.S. and Caribbean. He was always the environmentalist. He liked sailing, boating, fishing and SCUBA. He spoke in behalf of nature preservation at hearings which led to the establishment of the Biscayne National Park in South Florida. He participated in hearings in Knoxville on the Riverwalk project, declaring that the river belonged to the people and their access should not be denied. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Mamie, who gave him excitement, care and affection during their 44-year marriage. Lewis Jackson Hobbs and the late Carrie Bell Rispers Hobbs in Thomaston (Upson County), Ga. She passed away on July 14, 2007, at the Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge, Tenn. She was blessed to celebrate her 90th birthday in April with family and friends. Mrs. Chambles was married to the late Henry Chambles for 54 years. They had three boys and one girl. She spent most of her life in the Fellowship and the Lincoln Park communities in Thomaston, Ga. She had been a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Upson County, Ga., since she was very young. Due to declining health, she moved to Oak Ridge, Tenn., in 1996 to be close to her son and daughter-in-law. She enjoyed gardening, housekeeping, and interacting with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; brother, P. J. She formerly read to kindergarten children at school. She was very active in the Clinton Chapter of Eastern Star, where she was for many years Worthy Matron and served as a Grand Representative for Michigan. Most recently, she was the secretary for her chapter and played the piano for many chapters. She also served as Mother Advisor to the Rainbow Girls. She played the piano for AARP and wrote their newsletter for over 17 years. Marjorie was a big fan and ticket holder for the Lady Vols. She was a member of Red Hatters. She was loved and admired by all who knew her. She touched many lives with her sweetness, compassion, energy, and zest for living. Her heart was her family and she amazed all with her will to live. He graduated from the Bibb County Public Schools in 1940 where he was a football standout in high school, and was awarded a football scholarship to the University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn., while Sewanee was still a member of the Southeastern Conference. He earned a B. S. degree in physics from Sewanee in 1944 and because of wartime priorities, came directly to Oak Ridge to participate in the Manhattan Project. He began his employment in Oak Ridge as a physicist with the Tennessee Eastman Company at Y-12. After approximately one year he transferred to the Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Company of Union Carbide Corporation and worked the remainder of his career at the K-25 Plant. He worked there as a physicist and in various managerial positions until his retirement from the Martin Marietta Corporation in 1984. He was a longtime member of Glenwood Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Howington Smitherman. He is survived by his wife, Yonnie Tallant Smitherman; a daughter, Ea Jo Smitherman; a brother, Roy Smitherman and his wife, June, all of Oak Ridge; three sisters, Essie Mae Smitherman of Dothan, Ala., Gail Butts, of Denver, Colo., Joy Sheppard, of Marietta, Ga.; five nieces, three nephews; and a number of great-nieces and nephews, and three stepchildren; six stepgrandchildren, and a number of step great-grandchildren. A private burial was held at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at Glenwood Baptist Church in Oak Ridge at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007. James Robert Weir Jr., age 74, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, June 11, 2007, at Baptist Hospital West. He was born Dec. 29, 1932, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of James Robert Weir Sr. and Kathleen Lawson Weir. He is survived by five sons: James Robert III, David Jeffrey, Joseph Todd, Patrick Allen and Scott Anthony, who love and miss him. He is also survived by two sisters, Judy Weir Goode and Kathy Weir Dickey. Mr. Weir worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 39 years until his retirement in 1994. The last 20 years, he served as associate director and director of the Metals and Ceramics Division. During his tenure, he was the recipient of the E.O. Lawrence Award. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1955 in metallurgical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and his master's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1962. Mr. Weir was an avid sailor for more than 40 years. He was a member and past commodore of the Concord Yacht Club and successfully competed in numerous regattas in many classes of boats throughout the Southeast region. He was also instrumental in the early development of the sailing education programs at the club. Mr. Weir enjoyed acting with the Oak Ridge Playhouse and he was an avid singer with barbershop quartets in younger years. In keeping with Mr. Weir's wishes, his body was cremated. KIRCHENSTEIN, COLONEL JOHN J. - died of leukemia on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at the Colonial Hills Nursing Center. He was 83 years old. He was the son of Jacob and Vallie Kirchenstein of the Bronx, New York and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Colonel Kirchenstein was a graduate of New York University where he was a member of Skull and Bones, an honor society. He received a Masters degree in transportation from the University of Tennessee. The Colonel was an Army veteran of 36 years, serving in World War II, Korea, and two tours in Vietnam. He was a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; the Joint Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia; and the Army War College, Carlisle, Pa. His final assignments included J-4, U.S. Pacific Command, Honolulu, Hawaii; Transportation Officer for U.S. Army Vietnam; Commander of the 4th Transportation Command, Vietnam; and finally J-4, U.S. European Command, Stuttgart, Germany. On retirement from the Army in 1978, he joined the University of Tennessee, working with transportation students. He served as advisor to Delta Nu Alpha; arranged and conducted European Business Study Tours for students each summer, spending time with businesses in 6 countries; and arranged interviews for students with major transportation companies in the U.S. At the same time, he did consulting in the field of international transportation and logistics around the world. He also served as a member of the Tennessee Export Council from 1987 to 1991. Colonel Kirchenstein was a Master Mason, Lodge No. 337; a member of the American Legion; a member of the National Defense Transportation Association where he was awarded the transportation distinguished service award for 1978. He also received the same award for the state of Tennessee in 1993. After retirement for the second time, he served as a volunteer with the Knoxville Council on Aging. While he loved Hawaii and spent much time there, he was an avid skier and his favorite vacations were spent on the ski slopes out West and the Alps of Switzerland and Austria. LONG, ALMA ROSE (STOUT) - age 90 years old, currently a resident of Morning View Village in Maryville, passed peacefully Tuesday morning away after a brief struggle with cancer. Mrs. Long was born in Englewood, Tennessee, and attended Tennessee Wesleyan College, later graduating from Carson-Newman College with a BS in Education. During her teaching career she received her Library Certification from the University of Tennessee. She was the youngest of four, with two sisters and a brother. At the beginning of her teaching career in Greenback, she met and married Ronald Elmer (Bush) Long. She taught English and was Librarian for many years at Porter High School, with a total teaching career of 32 years. Mr. and Mrs. Long were long-time residents of Alcoa and members of New Providence Presbyterian Church. For much of her life, she had been active in Chilhowee Club, Alcoa Garden Club, New Providence Women's Church Circles, Delta Kappa Gamma, ESO, AARP, and Retired Teachers. Alma was an avid reader and always kept a book at her side. She enjoyed UT sports and was a big fan of the Lady Vols. Alma always had a positive outlook and in a quiet manner was a strong role model for her family. While living in Alcoa she hosted numerous family gatherings and made everyone feel at home. In her retirement she enjoyed gardening, club gatherings, spoiling her grandchildren, sewing, and being independent. She is preceded in death by: husband, Bush Long, brother, Paul Stout, and sister, Nell Brown. Mr. Smitherman was the son of Roy C. and Clara Wallace Smitherman (both deceased) of the Antioch Community near Centreville, in Bibb County, Alabama, where he grew up during the Great Depression years. He graduated from the Bibb County Public Schools in 1940 where he was a football standout in high school, and was awarded a football scholarship to the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, while Sewanee was still a member of the Southeastern Conference. He earned a B. S. degree in Physics from Sewanee in 1944 and because of wartime priorities, came directly to Oak Ridge to participate in the Manhattan Project. He began his employment in Oak Ridge as a physicist with the Tennessee Eastman Company at Y-12. After approximately one year he transferred to the Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Company of Union Carbide Corporation and worked the remainder of his career at the K-25 Plant. He worked there as a physicist and in various managerial positions until his retirement from the Martin Marietta Corporation in 1984. He was a long time member of Glenwood Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Helen Howington Smitherman. The last twenty years, he served as Associate Director and Director of the Metals and Ceramics Division. During his tenure, he was the recipient of the E. O. Lawrence Award. He earned his Bachelor Degree in 1955 in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and his Masters from the University of Tennessee in 1962. Mr. Weir was an avid sailor for 40+ years. He was a member and past Commodore of the Concord Yacht Club and successfully competed in numerous regattas in many classes of boats throughout the southeast region. He was also instrumental in the early development of the sailing education programs at the Club. Mr. Weir enjoyed acting with the Oak Ridge Playhouse and he was an avid singer with Barbershop Quartets in younger years. In keeping with Mr. Weir's wishes, he was cremated. The last 20 years, he served as associate director and director of the Metals and Ceramics Division. During his tenure, he was the recipient of the E.O. Lawrence Award. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1955 in metallurgical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and his master's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1962. Mr. Weir was an avid sailor for more than 40 years. He was a member and past commodore of the Concord Yacht Club and successfully competed in numerous regattas in many classes of boats throughout the Southeast region. He was also instrumental in the early development of the sailing education programs at the club. Mr. Weir enjoyed acting with the Oak Ridge Playhouse and he was an avid singer with barbershop quartets in younger years. In keeping with Mr. Weir's wishes, his body was cremated. She was transported by Lifestar air ambulance and died later that day. Mary recently moved from Oregon to East Tennessee to be near her parents who live in a retirement community in North Carolina. She joined the staff of the general accounting team of Marriott Hotels in December of last year. After serving for many years in executive accountant positions in New Mexico, California and Oregon, she returned to her native east Tennessee. Having been born in Johnson City, she had a connection with, and a passion for this region. She held undergraduate and graduate degrees from Vanderbilt University in Nashville and was a Certified Management Accountant and a member of the Institute of Management Accountants She is survived by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Robert J. Beil of North Carolina; and by aunts, Flora Jean Waite of Florida, and Betty Clements of Pennsylvania; and an uncle, James Beil and wife, Joan of New Jersey. Born Feb. 11, 1924, in Georgetown, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Alice Hamilton Estes and Harvey Moore Estes. Mrs. Ritchie attended business school and the University of Kentucky, and was employed at the Kentucky Utilities Company for several years. A longtime resident of Oak Ridge, she married Rufus H. Ritchie on Dec. 2, 1944, in Cambridge, Mass. Mrs. Ritchie traveled to many places in the course of her husband's work. She was an accomplished hostess while residing in the U.S. and abroad for the many scientists who visited the family. She lived with her family for extended periods in Denmark, in Cambridge, England, in Lexington, Ky., in Las Vegas, Nev., and for numerous shorter times in the Basque Country in North Central Spain. After returning from a stay in India, where she learned doll-making from the American Women's Club of Bombay, she organized a similar informal group who made dolls for the Oak Ridge Holiday Bureau for more than 20 years. She won many blue ribbons in flower arranging competitions, was a member of the Arissa Garden Club, studied art for years at the Oak Ridge Community Art Center, enjoyed painting, playing piano and organ, and was active in the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. Bridge was a favorite of hers and she was instrumental in establishing a bridge club from membership in the Church. She enjoyed doing volunteer work in the Pink Placebo at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge and at the Recording for the Blind for many years. Mrs. Ritchie has two children, Susan Ritchie Snowden of Phoenix, Ariz., and David Alan Ritchie of Peachtree City, Ga.; a son-in-law, Ralph Snowden and a daughter-in-law, Gina P. Ritchie; seven grandchildren, June Ritchie of Denver, Colo., Dan Witkowski of Telluride, Colo., Sonya Austin-Kim of Dallas, Texas, and Sean Austin of Austin, Texas, Alex Ritchie, Krista Ritchie, and Becca Ritchie of Peachtree City, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren.     2. I am looking for information on the family of Simeon WHITE. They were in Morgan County Tennessee for the 1860 and 1870 census'. Before that they were in Blount County for the 1830, 1840, and 1850 census. I have Simeon WHITE being born abt 1801 in NC, his wife Elizabeth (?) born abt 1809 in TN and the following for their children: (all born in TN) Sarah White b. abt 1825 m. Seiber, age 86, a resident of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Summitt View Health Care Center in Lake City. Mrs. Seiber was born April 30, 1921, in Devonia. She and her family moved to Oliver Springs in 1946. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Mrs. Seiber was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Seiber; by a daughter, Peggy Seiber; by her parents, Ethel White and Ellie Armes White; by two brothers, Howard and Junior White; and by a sister, Louada Stonecipher. Mrs. Seiber had no surviving relatives, however she was loved and cared for by those who were considered as family including all of her Kellytown community neighbors in Oliver Springs. Seiber, age 86, a resident of Oliver Springs, Edward Louis Clark, 83, of Asheville, N.C., father of Oak Ridge business woman Bonnie Clark and founder of Clark's Copy Service, Inc., entered into rest on July 11, 2007. A multi-generation native of Western North Carolina, Edward Louis "Ed" Clark was an active businessman and sportsman throughout his life. He attended Mars Hill College and received his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, Ed Clark attended Harvard University for a master's degree in business administration. For over 25 years, Ed Clark served as both the sales and general manager of the Clark-Fowler Cigar Company, a large wholesale and vending operations company serving all of Western North Carolina. Clark was also the treasurer and director of the Rollin' Pin Bakery, a successful Asheville retail baking and catering company. For many years, Clark served as the president and chairman of the board of Clark's Printing and Communication Service located in Westside Business Park. Clark was also the founder of Clark's Copy Service, Inc. in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Among his many civic activities, Ed Clark served as a director and chairman of the Legislative Committee for the North Carolina Wholesale Association. He served for several years as a member of the Mars Hill College Board of Advisors and as a director of the Asheville Y.M.C.A. An active Rotarian for many years, Mr. Clark was the president-elect and a director of the West Asheville Rotary Club as well as a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church in Asheville. Ed Clark was a member of Hominy Baptist Church, the church his parents helped to found. As a sportsman and horse breeder, Ed Clark served as a director of the North Carolina Horse Council. He was president of the North Carolina Thoroughbred Breeders Association and was twice awarded the coveted honor of being named Breeder of the Outstanding Thoroughbred Race Horse of the Year in North Carolina by this organization. She was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to the late Jack D. and Nelle Ruth Hix Childress. Eleanor and her husband, Fred J. Dewey Sr., moved to Oak Ridge in 1951. She was a machine operator with Pic-Aire Corporation and retired with them after 18 years of service. She was a member of the Glenwood Baptist Church, where she was very active in church activities. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred J. Dewey Sr.; and brothers, Hugh D. Childress and Jack D. Childress. Mrs. Dewey is survived by her son, Fred J. Dewey Jr., of Oak Ridge; and daughter, Deborah Crumley and husband, James H. Crumley, of Morristown, Tenn. She was also survived by two brothers, Charles T. Mary Eleanor McCluer LaVerne, of Oak Ridge, beloved wife of Melvin LaVerne, died on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at approximately 11:15 a.m., at the Briarcliff Health Care Center, Oak Ridge. She had recently celebrated her 91st birthday at home. Eleanor, as she preferred to be called, was the daughter of Henry Randolph McCluer and Mary McCluer, both now deceased, of 1819 Park Avenue, Parkersburg, W.Va. She is survived by her husband, Melvin; four sons, twins Andrew and Alan, David, and Douglas; four grandchildren, Andrea, Erica, Jesse, and Alyse; and three great-grandchildren, Stella, Emma, and Jade. Eleanor was an alumnus of Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio. She was a member of Chi Omega. During World War II, Eleanor spent a stint as Western Coordinator for the Services of Supply, a job calling for ingenuity and persistence. She later worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, editing technical reports. In the area, Eleanor was active in Oak Ridge incorporation in the 1950s and other political involvements. She was active in Smoky Mountain Sports Car Club autocrosses and rallies, in Oak Ridge Playhouse and Savoyards, on-stage and off, in Oak Ridge Chorus, and in Concord Yacht Club racing, cruising, and social activities. She was a member of Civil Air Patrol, civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force engaged in search and rescue and aerospace education. Her training included National Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama. She rose to the rank of captain. She greatly enjoyed travel, having extensively visited the continental U.S., Europe, Canada, and Mexico. She also accompanied Mel to air shows and hang gliding training. She was a member of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, and had taught Sunday School even before Unitarianism and Universalism merged in 1961. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2007, at Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike, at stoplight No. 11. It will be conducted by ORUUC's minister, the Rev. Jake Morrill. Dylan graduated from Clinton High School, Tenn., class of 2006, and was currently enrolled at CCRI in Warwick for computer science. He was employed at Weidele's Pizza in Sterling, Conn., for the past eight months. He enjoyed bike riding, paintball, basketball and sports in general. Dylan had a great sense of humor and loved hanging out and having fun with friends and family. He was the brother of Kyle N. Wood of Glocester and grandson of David and Diane Wood of Foster, Sylvia Pendergast of Connecticut, and the late George Pendergast. He leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins who will miss him dearly.
