I have a Military Warrant #1994......granted to Aaron Boone (Pvt Continental Line) on 20 May 1793. The tract is 640 acres on the north side of Cumberland River, on the head waters of the main fork of Blooming Grove Creek. I also have a Military Warrent #2238.....granted to Joseph Surles (Pvt Continental Line) on the same date . The tract is 640 acres on the north side of the Cumberland River, on the head waters of Cross Creek. These are both in what became Montgomery-TN. Has anybody heard of Blooming Grove Creek??? Cross Creek??? Both warrants were bought up 26 Jan 1796 by a John LANCASTER, who I think was a son of James LANCASTER. John LANCASTER had sons John, William and James who are all on the early Montgomery Tax lists. How does this family connect to the other LANCASTER's in Montgomery County???? My 5g uncle in Smith-TN, who's name was also John LANCASTER also bought up warrants at the same time. He also had sons named John, William and James...... This is all very weird........... jerree
Hi Jerree If headwaters mean the very tip of the creek, river, etc then North Cross Creek would be in Montgomery Co. It extends into Mont Co just over 1/2 (estimate from TN atlas) If headwaters meant a point somewhat close to the very beginning of the creek, the land may have been in present Stewart Co. You have to remember that Stewart Co was not formed from Mont Co until 1803. You have the answer for Blooming Grove, it is in Mont Co. The map is not real clear. That is it seems several creeks meet in the one area. One is not named (unless we are to assume it is a continuation of Blooming Grove.) If it is, then Cross Creek and Blooming Grove are very close, less than 1/2 mile. That area is right near the county line. How is that making this clear as mud. :) William
