    3. Actually the link for NARA did work on all but the first e-mail. Thanks for the will link - I have a copy of that will. I just found out this week that Thomas (2ndgrtgrandfather) and Ross (brother) fought in the Mexican American War under General Z. Taylor. Afterwards they both went back to Montgomery Co., married and returned to TX . I started reading a book (read until three this morning) about it and had not realised that after the initial start a notice was sent to the newspaper in Nashville and hundreds of young men in their teens and twentys volunteered and went to TX to fight in Mexico. Some estimates put the number of all the volunteers at over six thousand. There were units from all over the States. One of the most interesting units was the Irish who were San Patricios (paddys even in Spanish!) who refused to fight against other Roman Catholics so they all deserted and fought for the Mexican gov. Most were caught and tried for treason (by Gen. Winfield Scott) and executed. I grew up in TX and learn more about TX history doing genealogy than I did in school:) Thanks KK:) >>> Charmaine >>> >>> >>> Charmaine Riley Holleyf >>> archivehobbit@mac.com >>> >>> "...but hobbits have a passion for family history." >>> - Tolkein in Lord of the Rings >>> >>> >> >> >> > >
