Hi Folks, I hope one of you can help me with a puzzle. My 7X Ggfa. was Benjamin Whitehead (ca. 1750-1836). Several times he gave "Deeds of Gifts" and in one (W.B. C, p. 609, Montgomery Co., TN) it states that Benjamin Whitehead deeded certain property to the children of Gincy Trotter and George Fort . Richard Whitehead was appointed trustee in the transaction. There is no record of who George Fort was. Fort may have been George's middle name and Benjamin called him that. Gincy Trotter was Benjamin's daughter, Tennessee Whitehead. She was married to a George Trotter. I believe (but cannot prove) that after George died in Hinds Co., MS Gincy then married her sister's (Angelica Whitehead Rook Jackson) widower, Mitchell Jackson. Gincy died October 12, 1849 in Hinds Co., MS if this proves to be true. Does anyone have any idea who this "George Fort" may have been? I have checked out every "Fort" family I can find in Montgomery Co. and I cannot find a single George among them. I'd appreciate any help I can get as I'd really like to prove who this man was. Thanks, Jean Hancock in TX
Jean, Maybe you can help me. In my family it has been reported that Martha J. Whitehead married my gggrandfather, Henry E. Cherry. The dates that I have for Martha are 1802-1882. Do you have her in her family information on the Whiteheads? I have been looking for verification that Henry E. Cherry's wife was Martha Whitehead, but have not been able to find it. At one time I was looking at documents for Benjamin hoping that I would find something, but never did. If I can find what I have on Benjamin, I'll let you know. Thanks for any help you may be able to give me. Deanna O.
