    3. Hi Rose, Thank you for this. I am going to TSLA in October so perhaps I can find the card file and find out more about it. Do you or anyone else know where I would write or call to get a copy of his service record? Again, thanks for the help. I found "Tennesseans in the War of 1812" by Sistler (1992). This book refers to a card file to be found on microfilm at the TN State Library & Archives in Nashville. The card file was produced from the original muster rolls. Either another copy of the card file, or the original muster rolls are at the National Archives in DC. "Tennesseans in the War of 1812" has these entries for John Rook on page 438: Rook, John, Pvt Col R. H. Dyer, Capt. Robt Edmonston TN Vol Mtd Gunmen Rooke, John Pvt Col John Cocke, Capt. Joseph Price, Inf Sister noted that duplicate names were left in the book when it was not obvious that they refered to the same person. There were no locations given for Rook. The records from 1809-1810 wer extracted with 1,310 entries. >

    3. Actually I found the Moore book in a library not too far from me. This library is the Sutro (CA State Library) in San Francisco. Here is the catalog entry for the book: Record # 1 Title : Record of commissions of officers in the Tennessee Militia / compiled by Mrs. John Trotwood Moore. Author : Moore, Mary Brown Daniel, 1875- Call Number : UA462 .M66 Publisher : Nashville, Tenn.? : Tennessee Historical Commission, 1947- Description : v. ; 26 cm. Subject Heading(s) : Tennessee--Militia--Registers. Tennessee--Genealogy. Notes : Includes indexes. "Reprinted from Tennessee historical quarterly by the Adjutant General of the state of Tennessee." Incomplete Contents : Vol. 1. 1796-1811. Other Author : Tennessee Historical Commission. Original Number : RLINCCSG86-B1860 DBCN : ABQ-0051 Catalog : California State Library Item Holdings : Location Call Number Volume Material Status Sutro Library (RR) UA462 .M66 1 Book Available Sutro Library (RR) UA462 .M66 1 Book Available It seemed to me from looking at this page: http://www.library.ca.gov/html/pubser04.cfm that Sutro limits their lending services to within the state of CA, but you might ask your local library if they can request the book. If you can't find the book elsewhere, I'll be glad to check it out next time I go to Sutro. That would be sometime in the next several months. Then you could let me know what info you need from it. Hope this helps, Rose ----- Original Message ----- From: "theshadow" <theshadow@glade.net> To: <TNMONTGO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 03, 2004 2:41 PM Subject: Re: [TNMONTGO-L] John Rook > Hi Rose, > Thank you for this.
