This morning's Leaf-Chronicle advises of some policy changes we should all be aware of----and complain about! They claim they are making the changes to "allow publication of more information and biographical details about the deceased". That's their was of saying that they want to be paid for publishing an obituary! The website is at www.theleafchronicle.com Please read the article and then click on the proper "buttons" -----"Customer Service" is on the left side of the main page, "Contact Us" is on the next page. I've already written my complaint to the publisher (filled in those boxes)----and I asked for a reply! In my complaint, I've stated that there are many people doing family research and by removing the survivors from their obituaries, they are doing a disservice to future generations. That's why I'm asking everyone on these lists to write a complaint----just to let them know how important it is for the survivors to be included "for free"! Also----ask for a reply to your message! If enough people complain, they will get tired of making the replies (and they really do reply!) so just might change their policy again. I also told them of a couple of instances where listing survivors affected me personally. Back in the 1960s, there was a double-murder in Clarksville----Charles Shepherd and his wife. I just looked outside. My husband and Dad are sitting under a shade tree in Daddy's back yard. "MY" Charles Sheppard and his wife are still alive and well! Also, in July, 1994, there was an obituary for Gary Ellis published in the Leaf-Chronicle. I checked to be sure something didn't happen during the night----my husband (Gary R. Ellis) and my son (Gary D. Ellis) were both still alive and well---as was the minister, Gary Ellis. (The Gary Ellis that had died was the son of Carol Ellis, who donated the Geneva Swain Collection to the Montgomery County website.) I don't care if the Leaf-Chronicle wants to charge for publishing what they refer to as "biographical details"----but they definately should publish survivors without charging the family of the deceased! Thanks for listening---and for your action on this matter! Sandy Ellis
