I'm looking for my ggggrandmother Mary Melinda Greenwood who, we believe, was born in or near Montgomery Co. TN. She was said to be Cherokee but I think her mother was the Cherokee. Still cannot prove but believe her father was James Greenwood whose father was John of Virginia. She married George W. Upshaw (born GA) whose father Parson Upshaw was in Montgomery Co. for awhile also. Mary Melinda was born around 1800-1810. They married in Shawneetown, IL in 1826 but no record of them living there for any length of time. If anyone has any info on GREENWOOD families there, I would like to hear from you.
