    3. Hi Sandy, I forwarded this to my daughter-in-law who is part of the Hays family to see if she is related or not. Her family comes from Natshville/Clarksville so it may be. Natalia Ayers ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandra Ellis" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 24, 2001 8:40 AM Subject: [TNMONTGO-L] Fw: HAYSE-HAYS/PATTERSON/ETHERIDGE I received this message and got the lady's permission to forward it hoping to make some contacts for her. Sandy Ellis ****************************************************** Hello, I found your names on the SURNAME list for Dickson Co. TN. I am interested in information on any of the HAYSE families of Dickson, but I know sometimes it was spelled HAYS. [ HAYS is another of my lines from Lincoln and Marshall Counties TN] Katherine HAYSE married to John (or James) Patterson were my great great grandparents. Would you please reply to me a the following address? < [email protected] > Thanks, Carol D. Monroe Amarillo, TX From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Subject: Re: HAYES Date: Saturday, March 24, 2001 2:20 AM Sandy, Thank you for such a speedy reply. The one date I can build on is the birth date of Mary Jane Patterson the daughter of John (James) Patterson and Katie Hayse. Mary Jane was born 21 Sept 1830, and appears to be the first born. (She died 11 Aug 1914. in McNairy County). Census* I find say she was born in Alabama. James, born in GA and TN and Catherine, born in TN. I would estimate that James was born abt. 1805-1810. Katie may have not been more than 16-20 years older than her daughter. It does not take a lot of paper to tell what I have from my mother's written records. John and Katie Hayse Patterson were mother's Great grandparents. She wrote: John T (or W.) Patterson m. Katherine "Katie" Hayse. Then she noted in Tennessee records he is called James. Their Children were: Mary Jane Patterson m. Mason Dixon Etheridge Hugh Patterson Dock Patterson Green Patterson Enoch Patterson m. first Piney Peeples and second Lizzie Plunk. She then gave the children and grandchildren of Enoch which I will give you at another time. This about covers the PATTERSON written account. She made the usual mis slips in writing, but I think her information was basically correct. Mother has a very deep sense of "Family". She was born in the home of her grandmother, Mary Jane Patterson Etheridge. From time to time her parents and she lived with Mary Jane up to age 15, when they moved to Oklahoma. A sister just younger than mother was named Katie Hayse. No where in written record does she mention that John'/James' mother was Indian, but she did tell me we have Indian blood through the Etheridg/Patterson line. My mother had the long straight raven-black hair. According to a biography (written by a descendant of Enoch) in the McNairy Co., history REFLECTIONS, James' parents were John Patterson and Winnie, a Choctaw Indian. Mary Jane and Dixon's youngest daughter was named WINNIE. * These Census give several more children than had recorded. I am working with another woman on this line. I some times think we are looking at two different people. I will go into that another time. I do have additional information on my Mary Jane. I have a tin type of her and a picture of her and several members of her family made in 1900. I'll be happy to share anything I might have that would be of interest to you. As you will notice it is after 2 AM. I will send this on and hope it makes some sense to you. Again -Thank you, Carol

    3. Natalia, I'd be interested in knowing something about your daughter-in-law's Hays line---my g-grandmother was a Hayes. The Hayes family information in Geneva Swain's collection on the Montgomery County web site is my family. Geneva got some of her information from my great aunt (Bertie Lee Hayes Wilyard).
