I can't give you a timeline as I don't have the book handy. It's supposed to be the closes to true account of Mrs. Lee's life. It stated that servants were still living in the house, trying to keep it together for Mrs. Lee. None of the Lee's were permitted to go in the house. Their son,Curtis tried several times to pay the taxes and they were refused. The house was looted and Curtis only got a few things out. Most went to the government for display in Washington. Mrs. Lee's father had many things from Geo.Washinton, and they were taken also. Curtis, filed lawsuit after lawsuit and was finally given some money, but certainly not what he should have gotten. Mrs. Lee, went back to her home after the war but was unable to get out of carriage. Some of her servants were still there and came out to see her. It was a terrible thing to happen, but that's what war's are terrible. Mary (Damm Yankee)
