Duped into it? Ya reckon? Actually, being both the descendent of about three Confederate soldiers, and one Union one...I am going to throw in another idea here...many folks of this particular area were not duped into the war...they were poor farmers who were pulled in, their buildings, churches, schools, homes were being burnt, their crops destroyed, their livestock left to rot dead in the fields (what was not being pillaged to feed soldiers and drifters instead of families). Many were beaten and even tortured (many accounts of this in Stewart Co. history), civilians murdered, women raped, children left orphans (and not saying it was all legit soldiers, done by many renegades who had taken off awol intent on destruction)... At any rate, in that case ....southern, northern, or pink and purple polka dot, a man is going to fight. jan >I think most of the southern people were duped into it for what ever reasons >(I hate to even think about that) their elected representatives had in mind. > >The end justifies the means.......in my opinion...... > >jerree
