That's what I said duped...... Why is it alway the fault of the Damn Yankees when the fault lies nearer to SC, GA, AL, MS, LA, FL & TX? They are ones who started it from what I have read. When you are defending your land and family it is still a war not any of those other funny names. jerree
Okay, here I go again. I may be asking for help in getting my foot out of my mouth but.......... In the case of the "great unpleasantness" as it was called by those not on the front lines and also ignoring the elephant in the front room, my "opinion" is that it wasn't begun by the "people" "citizens" of either North or South, but by those who had something to lose if New Mexico, Texas, CA etc. were to be free or slave states, namely, their jobs, egos and power. I haven't studied the specific "yes we want it", "no you can't have it" causes, but didn't the split begin to loom in 1850, or earlier? Isn't that when the Missouri Compromise came into being?? It resulted in a stalemate for ten years, with nothing really definitely resolved. When the War was begun, by both sides, at about the same time, perhaps not with the same intensity, but definitely with the same intent, the North was at Fort Sumter and Lincoln wasn't about to retreat. That's called pushing it to the edge. Some folks in the South got together and said, "Look we aren't gonna take this any more", and thus the shot/s that almost broke the back of the Nation. Isn't it interesting that we as a people elect the wo/men to power and then step back and let them take over? How does that happen?? How does anyone know what the truth really is when one is told something by a politician?? What a stew!!!!!! I don't think the Civil War was my Great Grandpa's, or my Great Uncle's idea. But to protect the homeland from those vicious people from the North and South, they fought. They just forgot they were part of that North and South. Let's think of what could have been done instead of the War. What compromises could have been done?? Any suggestions?? And please don't say the Damn Yankees could have stayed home even if it's true.
