    2. Jeree, A possible help for the situation you mention: "There has got to be some good stuff in the court house but how does one get to it. They don't answer mail." Have you tried the Montgomery County Archives? Their address is on the Montgomery Co. site. I don't know their policy about responding to mail, but you could contact them before sending a request. I imagine you would have to have a specific document in mind. Since I mentioned the Montgomery County Archives, I want to say that the Archives is one of the best things the county has going. The archives attempts to preserve the original records but also makes their content available-and with a smile and style. Barbara

    3. If at all possible, it's best to check the microfilm for information. The microfilm is available on interlibrary loan through TSLA (Tennessee State Library & Archives) and for purchase or (members only) rental through Heritage Quest---and I'm sure most FHCs can get it. I'm not discouraging the use of the local archives---just encouraging the preservation of those old records! I like to go by the archives and try to find Jill when she has a couple of minutes so I can run a theory past her or ask her a question. The county budget doesn't allow much for "staff" so it can take a while to get answers to research questions. As for posting information from the old records to the website, I'm sure Frances will be happy for anyone to transcribe the information and send it to her! Sandy Ellis
