    2. William, It may have been Congress who refused the pardon.... I don't know but I would think it unlikely it was Grant.......he had great admiration for Lee and I don't think that is what one `Pointer' would do to another one.....they had their `good ole boy club' too. jerree

    2. Elaine, Thanks for the Traveller tip.......I will look for that book...... One of my biggest pet peeves is when Hollywood does not give `credit' to animals. They are careful though to tell you that none of them were killed during the making of the movie. Too bad it is not the other way around........ jerree PS Boy do I have a birthday list for my kids with all these books.......

    2. I can't give you a timeline as I don't have the book handy. It's supposed to be the closes to true account of Mrs. Lee's life. It stated that servants were still living in the house, trying to keep it together for Mrs. Lee. None of the Lee's were permitted to go in the house. Their son,Curtis tried several times to pay the taxes and they were refused. The house was looted and Curtis only got a few things out. Most went to the government for display in Washington. Mrs. Lee's father had many things from Geo.Washinton, and they were taken also. Curtis, filed lawsuit after lawsuit and was finally given some money, but certainly not what he should have gotten. Mrs. Lee, went back to her home after the war but was unable to get out of carriage. Some of her servants were still there and came out to see her. It was a terrible thing to happen, but that's what war's are terrible. Mary (Damm Yankee)

    3. Barbara, In the 1880 Census of Montgomery Co. there is one listing: McCarrol, Scot age 28*, Tennessee age 32, Washington age 2, Household 304. The * means that they were part of another household listing. In the 1880 Stewart Co listing there is one: McCarol, F. age 33 (f)*, Household 333 The * means the same thing here. Deanna O.

    3. Jerree, Now that I think about it, I seem to remember that is was JOHNSON. Where are you all from?? I live in mid- central IL on an 80 acre farm with my husband, four cats and three horses. Had quite a gulley washer this morning. I didn't know if the house would stand, or not.
