Hey Barbara Does Lucy have the name of Bartee or Bullock? If Bartee, would you be able to check when the census was enumerated? Was it two years late? The two were not supposed to have been married until 1852. Hmm... William

    3. William-- I don't have any of the children of Andrew Jackson Bartee and Eliza Louisa Elliott. I'd be interested in any info on this line. Barbara, J.W. Bartee was Andrew Jackson's uncle. (Andrew Jackson Bartee was the son of William Ballard Bartee and Mary Welker.) I'm still not sure why he was living with the Corbett family on the 1850 census. He married Lucy Bullock in 1852 so perhaps he was in the process of moving from Dickson County to Montgomery County---just speculation! I haven't looked at this line for a while but if memory serves correct, Sarah was still living in Dickson County in 1850 and was raising William Ballard's younger children after their parents' deaths. Daughter Mary was living near Sarah (shown as next family on the census). Mary's husband James Washington Hays died in 1856. By 1860, Mary is in Stewart County with some of her children while Sarah is in Montgomery County with JW and Lucy Bullock Bartee. Martha was in the process of getting her records out but has been side-tracked a few times this past year. Right now, she's in the hospital---been there since Monday of last week. (She has a heart problem and I'm not about to 'push' her! When she feels well enough to get into her records, she will.) JW and Lucy Bullock Bartee were her Grandparents---no "greats". Their son EL was her Daddy. Sandy Ellis

    3. Jerree-- Writing the courthouse in Montgomery County won't do you much good since there isn't much there (yet). The tornado kinda cleaned the courthouse out---it was eventually stripped to the bare walls. It's in the process of being restored. If you want any 'older' records, we have a county archives and our library has a genealogy department. Most available records have been microfilmed. Since you enjoy reading, you might want to see if you can find Titus' "Picturesque Clarksville" or Beach's "Along the Warioto"---both histories of Clarksville/Montgomery County. Sandy Ellis

    2. Cleo, Absalom is a brother of Simon Hains HEFLIN. I believe Absalom had two wives but very few people agree with me. I have 15 children, not too many of them are proven by me (maybe others). I would be happy to mail you a FGS if you send me your address. jerree

    2. Katharan, What I meant was that we were lucky if we get one or two queries a week.....and mine and William's would blow the whole week. This is a `dead' list....I would even appreciate a recipe and I HATE to cook. I have been to the county site and been over it with a fine tooth comb but much of it is in the 20th century like most county history books. There has got to be some good stuff in the court house but how does one get to it. They don't answer mail. On other lists people post all kinds of wills, court minutes, deeds that they find doing their own research......you never know what will help someone else. I have asked for a few census families and was overwhelmed with the quick responses by so many people, willing to help. I just don't see how people can do genealogy and exclude history and it's causes and effects. Thanks for writing! jerree

    3. Cleo/William I would be interested in anything either of you could share on the Welkers/Swifts. I haven't gotten back into the early 1800's yet. Welkers and Swifts married into my Cherry's. I haven't done a lot of research as yet on either branch. Their on my "to do" list. Ones I have were in the Palmyra area as far as I know. For right now the main one I'm looking for is Leonard E. Swift, nothing on him except he married Mertle Lee Cherry, 14 Jan 1887 Stewart Co.-25 July 25, 1927 Palmyra, buried Palmyra United Methodist Church Cemetery, married 29 July 1921 Montgomery Co. One daughter that I know of, Gerlene Swift. Mertle Cherry Swifts brother Brodis Cherry's daughter Myrtle Cherry married Robert Welker. Robert's family was also supposed to be from Palmyra area. Any help appreciated. libbye --- Cleo <cdmhogan@usit.net> wrote: > William, do you know where these people lived within > Montgomery Co., TN? > There is a Major & Welker cemetery on my farm here. > Cleo. > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. Jerree... As far as I know, it is only the census lists that have limits on the queries....Most county lists are happy to have all the queries you want to send, or to converse about anything doing with 'genealogy or history....Even the lively civil War conversation is welcome to me... Hi Cleo I believe they lived toward Palmyra, Sailor's Rest, and some north of that area. There is a cemetery at Johnnie and Kirkland Rd that has some of my kin there. Never been there. I go to Cumberland City very often, just never have taken the ferry across to the other side. :) William
