    1. Re: [TNMONTGO-L] Samuel YOUNG
    2. J. Ray Young`
    3. Hi Linda Thanks for the reply. I see that you are also researching the Young name. My Samuel Young said in his Rev War pension application that he lived in both Sumner co TN and Logan co KY. I do not have exact dates that he was in either county but he had to have been there for a period between 1790 and 1810. Since Montgomery and Robertson counties were made from Sumner co and I have seen his name in the histories of those two counties. I beleive he left the area before they were formed. I suspect that he left adult children in the area when he came to Illinois. Do you have any Youngs in the area that could fit into this catagory?. I would not be surprised to find an son Samuel and there is a Betsy that married an Underwood that I would suspect that was his daughter. thanks J. 2. I can send you what I have privately if you want, don't know how to send it to the list, if anyone else should want it. Have another question for you but will send it to Stewart list, as it pertains to Stewart Co. Let me know what you want me to do.  Hi Libbye What you did worked. Because this e mail was sent to the list. But if you meant privately, then you can highlight my e mail address and then right click. Select copy. Hit your e mail button. (On aol it is the 'write' button) Right click again in the send to box and select paste. That way it can be a private e mail. This goes for anyone. I have a Cherry file saved. It begins with William Cherry born 1740 or some such. If you or anyone on the list wants a copy, let me know. William

    3. thanks for responding William and Cleo. Really appreciate it. Not too long ago I had to reformat my hard drive and in my haste forgot to back up my ftm, emails, etc. So much was lost and have not recovered as yet. Over 4,000 names etc.since my last back up Christmas 2001. Some I was lucky on that I had hard copies of, some I did not. But still have not had time to re-enter most of it. I had more on the Cherry/ Welkers than I do now. I don't even have a date for Myrtle-dau. of Brodis. Should be abt. early 1920's. I have some hard copy pictures of them and one of their sons (Welkers). Will have to get that info back into my ftm and let you know soon as I do. Brodis Cherry married Nettie Lee Powers Wallace. She was the daughter of Olean Powers and Thomas Y. Wallace. Have you heard the story on that one? I also have pictures of Nettie with her brother Horace and other Wallace's. They did have a son named Billy, but I have no info on him. I can send you what I have privately if you want, don't know how to send it to the list, if anyone else should want it. Have another question for you but will send it to Stewart list, as it pertains to Stewart Co. Let me know what you want me to do. Thanks again, libbye __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Finance - Get real-time stock quotes http://finance.yahoo.com

    2. Sandy, Thanks..... I can picture all that area much better in my mind.....my State Farm atlas was published by the `flat earth society'...... I also had a researcher in Quincy-Adams-IL that spent her winters in the court house were it was warm.......I think she found me 80 some odd HENRY KOCH's (most of them were hog farmers)......never have sorted out the correct one...... Sorry.....I have been offered `free rent' in China in November.....I want to go to northern Siam (Thailand) and stay at an elephant ranch were they have nurseries of baby elephants to play with. You can eat with them, bathe with them and play in the mud with them. Thanks again......looking foreward to hearing about the Indians in the area. jerree

    1. Re: [TNMONTGO-L] Jeree & "court house stuff"
    2. Sandra Ellis
    3. Jerree-- This is funny! "> She said that the court house was the only warm place in the winter time." Remember the discussion on the Stewart list about the 'hollars'? I'll try to confuse you a little more now. Tennessee has 8 different terrains. (From West Tennessee to East Tennessee, we have the Mississippi River Valley, the Costal Plain, the Western Valley, the Highland Rim, the Central Basin, the Cumberland Plateau, the Valley and Ridge, and the Unaka Mountains.) The Highland Rim encircles Middle Tennessee (kinda like a donut) and the Central Basin is in the center of the circle (the donut hole). Stewart and Montgomery Counties are located in the upper west of the Highland Rim while Smith County is in the upper east of the Highland Rim. (Nashville, Murfreesboro, Franklin, Gallatin are in the Central Basin.) The Cumberland River flows very near the courthouses in Carthage (Smith Co.), Nashville (Davidson Co.), Clarksville (Montgomery Co.), and Dover (Stewart Co.). Clarksville is on a hill over-looking the river. Dover and Nashville are more at river level---as is Carthage. The difference is Carthage is in a valley on one side of the river and has "hills" on the other side of the river. Carthage has a different 'microclimate' because those hills tend to trap fog, moisture, etc. while blocking the sun a little longer. As I've said before, as world traveled as you are, it's a shame you haven't visited Tennessee! You also asked about the Native Americans in the area so another time I'll try to tell you about them--from the nomadic hunters of the Ice Age (spearpoints have been found in Montgomery Co.). 1. [TNMONTGO-L] look up request for Katharan
    2. I have someone. There are two children James Elbert and Mary Lou Mathis. Could be spelled a variety of ways of course. They went by Elbert and Lou but the census may have anything. So if you would, could you look them up in the 1880 census? They might be in  TN or MO or anyplace else.   :) Katharan I'm repeating this but I wanted to add a few things. First James Elbert would be 8-10 years of age and Mary Lou 5-7 years of age. They could be in Houston Co or Stewart Co, in TN or perhaps New Madrid Co, MO. They might be living with Toad or Tobe Mathis or with unknown grandparents. Can you guess what info I'm really after here? :) See, I'm working with family legend with is just a few tidbits (or genealogists terms: clues). Just looking for more of the story. thank you William

    2. Hi Libbye I happen to know one of Brodis Cherry's grandson's. I think his dad was Billy. Not sure but his dad was living as of about a year/year and a half ago. Wish I could help on the Swift or Welker but doesn't seem likely now. My Welker's were definitely in the Palmyra area. Do you have any children for Robert Welker and Myrtle Cherry? How about a birthdate for him? William

She sent me an e-mail within two days after receiving my payment and mailed me a hard copy. She also included extra information she found. I don't remember exactly how much the charge was, I think it was $7.00. Hope this helps. Laura
