    1. Re: [TNMONTGO-L] Blooming Grove Creek & Cross Creek locations
    2. Sybil, William, Cleo and anyone I missed, Thanks for all your input and suggestions.......... It looks like (to me anyway).........three sons of Benjamin LANCASTER [c1726VA-1793NC] & Lucinda Delk [????-<1793NC] got to Montgomery-TN. 1..Elijah R `Henry' LANCASTER [c1752NC-1808TN] + Faithy Unknown. 2..Robert LANCASTER [<1754NC-1806TN] + m/1 Tabitha Unknown m/2 Abigail Unknown 3..John LANCASTER [????NC-????TN] + Hannah Unknown. #1 Elijah...in Aug 1805 was on a Tax List in Montgomery-TN & in Dec 1805 in Court Minutes in Stewart-TN. #2 Robert...in 1803 signed a petition in Montgomery-TN & 1804 signed a deed in Stewart-TN. #3 John...found nothing to prove he is the John I am looking for. So in 1803 when Stewart (I have no real date) was carved out of Montgomery, they didn't move they just changed county names. They do not connect to my line in Smith-TN unless we all hook up to Robert LANCASTER [c1631??-1720VA] which is very likely. What are the maiden names of Faithy, Tabitha and Abigail????? Two sisters (unknown first names) of the above brothers married: 1..Thomas Boyett Sr and moved to TN (unknown county). 2..Jacob Boyet and moved to TN (unknown county). Anybody have any Boyett/Boyet's in Montgomery/Stewart-TN???? Thanks again!! jerree

    3. If you go to Google and put in "Blooming Grove Creek, TN" you might find a lot of information. I did that for a creek in Virginia. 1. [TNMONTGO-L] Land Descriptions: "On the waters of _____ Creek"
    2. Cleo
    3. Unless the deed/land reference specifies "crossing" a creek or watercourse, there is some uncertainty as to the exact proximity TO the watercourse. Old deeds (not so in TN since about 1900) frequently mention "on the headwaters of ______ Creek". After much frustration, I concluded they just meant the rainwater from that land flowed to the _____ Creek. (I tried plotting several deed descriptions on a map, but could never get to the _____ Creek.) So don't think the land was ON the creek unless "crossing" the creek; or "to the banks of the creek" are specifically mentioned--it might be miles away! Cleo [at the headwaters (on my family farm) of the South Fork or Little McAdoo Creek, and on the Cumberland River (6 miles away)].

    1. Re: [TNMONTGO-L] 1793 Tennessee County, NC
    2. William Barnes
    3. Hi Jerree If headwaters mean the very tip of the creek, river, etc then North Cross Creek would be in Montgomery Co. It extends into Mont Co just over 1/2 (estimate from TN atlas) If headwaters meant a point somewhat close to the very beginning of the creek, the land may have been in present Stewart Co. You have to remember that Stewart Co was not formed from Mont Co until 1803. You have the answer for Blooming Grove, it is in Mont Co. The map is not real clear. That is it seems several creeks meet in the one area. One is not named (unless we are to assume it is a continuation of Blooming Grove.) If it is, then Cross Creek and Blooming Grove are very close, less than 1/2 mile. That area is right near the county line. How is that making this clear as mud. :) William

    1. [TNMONTGO-L] 1793 Tennessee County, NC
    2. I have a Military Warrant #1994......granted to Aaron Boone (Pvt Continental Line) on 20 May 1793. The tract is 640 acres on the north side of Cumberland River, on the head waters of the main fork of Blooming Grove Creek. I also have a Military Warrent #2238.....granted to Joseph Surles (Pvt Continental Line) on the same date . The tract is 640 acres on the north side of the Cumberland River, on the head waters of Cross Creek. These are both in what became Montgomery-TN. Has anybody heard of Blooming Grove Creek??? Cross Creek??? Both warrants were bought up 26 Jan 1796 by a John LANCASTER, who I think was a son of James LANCASTER. John LANCASTER had sons John, William and James who are all on the early Montgomery Tax lists. How does this family connect to the other LANCASTER's in Montgomery County???? My 5g uncle in Smith-TN, who's name was also John LANCASTER also bought up warrants at the same time. He also had sons named John, William and James...... This is all very weird........... jerree

Blooming Grove creek is very much running in Montgomery Co., TN; Cross Creek might be in present Stewart Co., TN; but the headwaters would have to be looked at, to see if it indeed arises in present Montgomery co., TN? 1. [TNMONTGO-L] who are Wade Carney's parents?
    2. MICHAEL MARTINEZ
    3. I have a Wade Carney ... born about 1902 according to the 1930 census ... who married a sister of my great grandfather, Annie Elizabeth "Bess" Chapman. In the 1930 census they were in Christian County, KY and lived just a couple of homes away from what was called the Chapman family farm. So called, because many of the Chapman children of James Thurston Chapman and Lee Ella McCarter lived there in their own homes but on the same land as their parents. I'm pretty sure that Wade Carney would have died late 1930's to early 1940's because Elizabeth married again twice and no one in the family ever mentioned a divorce. She was still young enough that during her second marriage she had another child. (2nd marriage was to Ernest Weakley and 3rd marriage was to a Miller). Could some kind soul out there tell me how Wade Carney fits into all of the Carney's that are running around? <grin> The children of Wade and Elizabeth were: Raymond Earl (born about 1924), Charles Edward (b. 1929), Louise (who married a Cherry), Martha (who married a Cobb), and Barbara Ann (who married a Harrell). According to the 1930 census there was also a Sarah L. born about 1927 who would have been child #2 ... but she may have died young as my side of the family knows nothing about her. 3. Michelle-- I didn't see anything that matches in Tennessee. There were 2 Carsey families in Williamson Co but no Martha Jane. There was a "T. Carsey" in Ballard Co., KY with a 9-year-old daughter shown only as "M. Carsey". (I looked at Ancestry but their 1850 index isn't linked to the images.) Sandy Ellis
