Now I was doing just fine until you mentioned that S---- word!<LOL> There is a great reading room at the Mont. Co. library for the kids. It is in an enclosed room, separate from the main library and looks like it has lots of goodies in it for kids (I just looked in). As for the Archives, nada. Have you thought about hiring a "Nanny" while you are in Clarksville if you are talking about young children? I'm sure someone on this list knows someone who would be willing to go with you and your children to the library (for a nominal fee) while you research. Especially now that it is nearing Summer and the high school kids will be out of school. You could also call the HS counselor and see if he/she could recommend someone. You could discuss with the "Nanny" which activities you'd like your children to do. Have fun in the library as it is really a good one and Jill Hastings-Johnson, County Archivist, at the archives is a rare gem! This may be of some assistance to the persons looking for Trotter information. There is a book entitled "Trotter Genealogy: the Virginia-Tennessee-Mississippi Trotter Line 1725-1948," compiled and edited by Mrs. Isham Patten Trotter, Jr., printed by Mayes Printing Company, Inc., Louisville, KY, 1948. An original copy is in the Library of the University of Kentucky. A photo copy is in the vertical file of the Clarksville-Montgomery County (Tennessee) Library. Because of some distant relatives, I copied a few pages from this book. The pages I have show that the first generation is James Trotter, Sr., who married Ann in 1743 in Brunswick County, Virginia. Their children were Isham, George, William, Robert, James and Mary. Apparently two or more generations of Trotters lived in Brunswick County. Isham Trotter, Jr. and Elizabeth Whitehead, his wife, moved to Montgomery County, TN, with the Dukes and Reads who are not further identified in the information I copied. No date given for the move but it must have been in the very early 1800s. They settled near Hustburg. I think I've been told that Hustburg is now in Humphries County, TN, but have not checked it. The pages I have do not mention a Frances, daughter of Rev. James Trotter, or a James Trotter who married Tabitha but that does not mean that they are not in the book. Also, Goodspeed's "History of Tennessee" (c. 1886), page 1276, has biographical sketches of Mitchel Trotter, son of Isham and Elizabeth Whitehead Trotter and Benjamin Trotter, son of Richard and Rebecca Moore Trotter. Both were living in Humphreys County. This is a hoax, if you will pull up Hoaxes and Myths you will see that McAfee says it is not so.
Keri, don't be so hard on yourself. That particular hoax has been around for better than a year....and for the first-timers it's quite scary, especially when you think you have messed up and infected all your genealogy buddies on the Lists! Just save that hoax address and always check it first before doing anything when you recieve a virus message...... Happy Hunting!! Diann

A virus has been passed on to me by a contact. My address book has in turn been affected. Since you are in my address book there is a good chance you will find it in your computer too. I followed the directions below and eradicated the virus easily. The virus (called jdbgmgr.exe) is not detected by Norton or McAfee anti-virus systems. The virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by messenger and by the address book whether or not you sent e-mails to your contacts. Here is how you check for the virus and get rid of it. 1. Go to start, find or search option. 2. In the file/folders option, type the name: jdbgmgr.exe 3. Be sure to search your C: drive and all the subfolders and any other drives you may have. 4. Click "find now" 5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe. DO NOT OPEN IT 6. Go to edit(on the menu bar), choose "select all" to highlight the file without opening it. 7. Now go to the file(on the menu bar) and select delete. It will then to to the Recycle bin. IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS, YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK SO THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THEIR OWN ADDRESS BOOKS. To do this a) Open a new e-mail message b) Click on the icon of the address book next to the "TO" c) Highlight every name and add to "BCC" d) Copy this message....enter subject....paste to e-mail. Apologies to those of you who have had this message several times from different people. This may be a hoax but I'm afraid not to warn you.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions on my 3rd GGM, Frances Trotter. Jean - everytime I turn around over the years there you are helping. I really appreciate it. Since Frances states she was born in VA I will follow those leads. Also, her age on 1850 census makes her about 18 in 1820 and on 1820 Montgomery Co census these are 3 "suspects" as they all have a female in the right age group. Based on that census her father could be Isham or George. Benjamin has one also but based on his age group he could only be her brother. Then again it could be somebody else. Thanks again.
Sandy, Remember my Nancy Ellis we believe she was the daughter of Miles? Her daughter Sallie Ann Ferrell married George Trotter. Interesting!!!!! Debbie
Maybe if we all compare notes on these Trotters, we might come up with some relationships. Hardy Ellis married Martha Dennis Trotter in Montgomery County, 22 May 1815. According to pension records, she stated her full name as Martha Dennis Trotter and that neither had been married to anyone else. Hardy owned land on Hurricane Creek until abt 1832 when he sold it and the family moved to Calloway Co, KY where he received a land grant for his service in the War of 1812. I have no idea who Martha's family is but know there were Trotters on census and land records in the same area Hardy was in. I also know the Ellis' were Methodists. Sandy Ellis
