I'm hoping someone might have some information to help me link a few pieces of information together. Moses Williams married Emma Finch in Montgomery County on January 31, 1903. On March 21, 1910, Emma Williams, age 26 died of pneumonia in District 21 of Montgomery County. I know that this Emma Williams was the sister-in-law of Richard Williams, who died the previous day of Bright's Disease (in his obit it mentions the death of his brother's wife). After doing some searching, we only found one man with a last name of Williams who married a woman named Emma in Montgomery County during the 10 years before this Emma's death. I'm hoping to find out whether Emma Finch is the Emma Williams in the death certificate in order to find out if Moses Williams is the brother of Richard Williams. Any futher clues would be greatly appreciated. _\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_\|/_ | Roger L. I sent a photo copy of the 1870 census of Humphrey Co., TN with this family to the linked address of this sender and it was returned undeliverable. Hi, My apologies. I sent a message to the list earlier this evening, but included an incomplete e-mail address. My address is Mike@Landwehr.com. Sorrry, Mike
Hi, I've recently begun researching the family of Jordan McCauley, who was, I am told, a son of Matthew McCauley, a long-time resident of Montgomery County. Jordan McCauley was born in Tennessee (probably Montgomery County) about 1833. One source indicates that his first wife was Susan Box. Jordan and his family moved to Arkansas in the late 1870's, where Jordan was married a second time. While I am interested in any information about the McCauley family of Montgomery County, I am particularly interested, at this point, in locating Jordan McCauley and his wife and children in the 1870 census. Does anyone on the list have access to an 1870 census index for Tennessee or Montgomery County that they could check for Jordan McCauley? I'd apprciate the help. The family is difficult to trace because of some many spelling variants (McCauley, McCauly, McCarley, McCarly, McCurley, McCurly, McKearly, etc.). Thanks for any help, Mike Landwehr Mike@Landwehr
Hi, i'm looking for the location of this cemetary,my grandfathers 1st wife and child were buried there (wife died in the 1918 flu epidemic) Her obit (published in the Leaf Chronicle 23 Nov 1918) said that is where she was buried ,she died Nov. 21 1918"at the home of her father near Oakwood,TN" Name given is "Mrs.Ella Smith, daughter of Charlie Smith,Wife of Harvey Smith"survived by 1 brother ,Early Smith.I found out on the county map that Oakwood is in Northwest Montgomery Co. Any help appreciated! Brenda Smith
Does anyone have any information on an Elijah H. Davis b? d. 7-6-1882 buried at Bethel Cemetery with Wife Nancy W. Davis b. 8-21-1818 d. 6-28-1882. Information per Obit. I would love to share anything I can on any Davis'. Debbie
I will have to look to see how far back they go. The county and city were separate then. I have so much new information, I am going to have a third volume to my book. In the new stuff I have collected, I find that Byrns Darden was once New Providence Training School. I also bought some cabinet photos. I wish I could find the family. One photo has a black flower. I have been told it is a funeral picture. On the back it says Burrel Allen Shiloh Tenn son of William C Allen & Sara Alice Dickson Allen. Father of Erskine, William Burrell, Harold, John Daniel. Sarah & Louise Allen. Lily Hills (which is listed, but not explained in your book) was located at the SE corner of Hogan Farm Rd (formerly marked Welker Cem Rd) and Ironworker's Rd. The Basford sisters taught there, among others. My uncles, who were born in 1882 and 1886, respectively, attended there (probably 1888-1896) before they moved to the nearby Shady Grove School. I asked one of them why they went to Lily Hills instead of Shady Grove, and I guess grandpa liked the teacher better! The Basford school was on Basford property, and the Basford sisters also taught there at an earlier time, located off Ironworker's Rd, at the end of what's (erroneously) marked Powers Rd (there's never been a Powers anywhere near there--it should be POWELL). Both these are in CD 10, I believe. At least one of the Basford sisters is pictured in the composite of early teacher photos at the library. As an aside, I believe the Shady Grove subscription school was established before 1877--I'm working on this. Cleo.
One other thing Cleo, can I get a copy of the picture for my book? I was just about ready to turn the CD over to the library when I acquired more things. I have been scanning the 28th commencement of the joint High School May 23, 1935. I have been in Gatlinburg for a week, and I am ready to begin scanning again. -----Original Message----- From: Cleo [mailto:cdmhogan@usit.net] Sent: Sunday, June 15, 2003 2:41 PM To: TNMONTGO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [TNMONTGO-L] Basford School, Lily Hills School, Eastern Montg. Hi Cleo, I have never heard of the schools. I read the board minutes and have never seen them mentioned either. I would really like to know more about them. Please tell me what you know. I have just discovered a major correction to my earlier post re Thomas MORRIS b. 1815 who is listed with another male (name appears to be Mofs?). He is not listed in the 1850 Montgomery Co. census report with a male named Michal (which I thought to be Michael or short for Micajah) but a female Michal b. abt 1779 NC. Is a? Hope that someone knows something about this family. Charmaine Riley Holley archivehobbit@mac.com "...but hobbits have a passion for family history." - Tolkein in Lord of the Rings
Looking for help with James TITTLE b. abt 1810 TN who went to Carroll Co., MS and then Fannin Co., TX. May have been from the Montgomery Co., TN area as I think his wife Nancy b. abt 1818 TN likely may have been a MORRIS from Montgomery Co.
