    1. [TNMONTGO-L] Geographical List of Southern Claims Commission Claimants
    2. theshadow
    3. Hello folks, This is a very interesting site as I found several of my surnames (not necessarily my lines) throughout this site. Jean Hancock in TX From: SylviaSA@aol.com [mailto:SylviaSA@aol.com] Sent: Monday, August 18, 2003 9:37 AM To: ddhaines@earthlink.net Cc: bobbyjoemitchell@yahoo.com Subject: Link to add to Marshall Web Page <snip>...the link containing the index of people that applied to the Southern Claims Commission for reimbursement of their property by claiming to be Union loyalists? Because of Bobby's sharp eye, he noticed that I had an ancestor on the list and sent me the information necessary to request a copy of their file which contains 55 pages. I am so excited by the find I can hardly wait for it to arrive in the mail. Click here: <http://www.slcl.lib.mo.us/slcl/sc/scc/scc-geolist.htm> Geographical List of Southern Claims Commission Claimants If you decide to put the link, here is the address to write to request a search for the file: General Reference Branch (NNRG-P) National Archives and Records Administration 7th and Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20408 You can request only one applicant per letter. You will need to supply the State and County, as well as the name of the claimant and the claim number if you have it. A page count will be done and they will then create a Reproduction Order Price Quote and mail it to you. You can also file online to this address. wayne.decesar@nara.gov The same rules apply as above. I have included the address information because it took me several days of dilligent searching before I could find an address. I finally found one on a RootsWeb message board, but while they included the street name, they did not include the street number. I got that by going back to the NARA web page, which does not include an address specific to the SCC. Earlier I had emailed NARA and they responded back two weeks later with the address for electronic filing.

My cousin still lives on the farm in Montgomery Co. where our family has been for 7 generations, if I remember correctly, 2 generations before the Civil War. A Wimberly built the house, and the next generation was Killebrew, and Killebrew till my aunt (Silvey) and my cousin and his son (Silvey). 3. I recall from a visit to Clarksville many year ago there were plans to build a museum at or in the vicinity of the train depot. This interested me as my grandfather worked for the RR. Was it ever built? 3. Sometimes you just can't save some buildings. My daughter and I were there the summer of 99 and saw the destruction and didn't know till we got home that a tornado had been thru there. We thought Clarksville was just another one of those towns that doesn't like "old buildings". I hope that is not true and hopefully they are recovering. Clarksville is special to me and I'm planning to see what they have done in the fall. Thanks, Cleo. Be safe. Jo............... 3. The most interesting post-1999 tornado rebuilding is the "Glenn Building", which was on the NE corner of the courthouse facing Third St, that was demolished in favor of building another Courts Building, that was reconstructed as a duplicate one block west, now facing Second St, labelled "Glenn Building", now at the NW corner of the courthouse! A brick building, there were plans to relocate it, but it was finally decided to demolish and rebuild anew. The company that relocates brick lighthouses on the east coast was brought in to make the estimate, I believe I remember.............. Once again housing attorneys, as the first one did for perhaps 80 yrs or so! Mark Rassas, of Rassas and Rassas, made this happen. Cleo. > Thanks, Cleo.
