Can anyone tell me the location of Riggins post office which is listed in the 1885-86 Clarksville City Directory ? I know it was in what is now the St. Bethlehem area, but I would like a more definite location if possible. The following description was included in the Clarksville City Directory. "Riggins. Locally known as Sailor's Rest Furnace. No information was received in time for press." This last sentence indicates a lack of submitted info as to mail delivery. >From the same section in the publication, I found mention of Sailor's Rest which was a landing & ferry on the Cumberland, 22 miles from Clarksville, but this seems to be a different location from Sailor's Rest Furnace-or is it?

Kathy, I think I have a connection with your MAJORs & KELLYs. My MAJORs & KELLEYse have connections to Montgomery Co & Cheatham Counties and possibly Christian County, KY Pam -----Original Message----- From: MICHAEL MARTINEZ <mamkmm2@prodigy.net> Sent: Sep 27, 2003 4:24 PM To: TNMONTGO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [TNMONTGO-L] Need info on the Charles Major family of Christian Co., KY Hello. My apologies for the cross post for the area ... but I'm needing some help. My aunt found something that may help me finally find a small piece of the puzzle of how my step-grandfather relates to the Goff's in KY. A letter she found in my grandmother's things recently (she died in 1979, but you know how that goes) is a letter from a committee that was trying to put together a family reunion for the Charles Major descendants. Charles Major was born about 1775 according to this letter and died in Christian County in 1857 and was buried at his home place, Cedar Grove on Palmyra Road. My grandfather died in 1977 so I don't know whatever came of this. He ... and a slew of other folks on the back of the letter ... are listed as descendants of this Charles Major. However, it doesn't state how they were descended from the line. I was wondering if anyone could be so kind as to enlighten me as to who this man was and if there is still a family group that researches this line. My step grandfather and his biological son are the only two Goff's that are listed so the descent may be from his mother's side ... and I'm not for sure of her name. I appreciate any and all help that you all can give me on this. Kathy Kathy in FL mamkmm2@prodigy.net http://www.easyfunschool.com Free Newsletter: EFSNewsletter-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

I know that when I was in Montgomery Co. last month that the woman in charge at the Archives said something about cemetery record being compiled. She had a couple of cemetery records she was working with so maybe they would know there. A James O. HANCOCK died in 1930 and was buried in the Oakland cemetery near St. Bethlehem, TN. I ran across the following address in the Yellow Pages on yahoo and was wondering if it is the same church located near this cemetery. The address is: Oakland Church of Christ 3365 Guthrie Hwy, Clarksville, TN 37040. I know that most of the graves do not exist in the cemetery, but I would like to look at any church records this church might have. Can anyone help me out there? Dan Vass
