Happy Thanksgiving everyone. This is a site to locate Civil War Ancestors that I got from another list I am on. http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm Sandra Stacey
I believe the cemetery my brother found is indeed a different one than this. He stated that there were 4 headstones, in good shape, and legible. On the Mont. Co. web site, it states that the names below are written on four sides of one large monument. There was no such monument in the one on my brother's property. The census records indicate that there were quite a few Northingtons living in the Port Royal area. The one mentioned below is probably on someone else's property. > [Original Message] > From: Cleo Hogan <cdmhogan@usit.net> > To: <TNMONTGO-L@rootsweb.com> > Date: 11/24/2003 10:11:48 PM > Subject: Re: [TNMONTGO-L] Henry Northington Cemetery (1822); Felix Northington Cem (1850) > > Frances, we have about 4 Northington cemeteries in Montgomery; these are > different ones! My brother stated that there were several other unmarked graves at the site, so that would explain these additional names. The previous owner told him there was another graveyard on the property that he has not yet located. It does not have headstones, only piled rocks. The previous owner believed these unmarked graves to be those of slaves or former slaves. I haven't seen the headstones yet, but my brother said they were in good shape and very legible. A check of the 1870 census revealed that Henry Northington did indeed have several black servants living with him, probably former slaves since they had the last name of Northington as well. Like I said, these are not family members of mine. I was just posting the information in case this was a "lost" cemetery and someone was looking for it. Tammy I'm curious about the "important" headstone, too, Cleo. Cleo, In a recent message you said, "and the most important stone of all is not listed here; ..." Now I'm curious. Can you explain? Barbara
Cleo, Is this the same cemetery that is listed under Northington on the Montgomery Cemetery pages that has the following info on it: Northington, Frazer Oct 6, 1838 Feb 24, 1912 (Footstone I) Frazer, Lauraine Mar 24, 1816 Nov 29, 1890 (Footstone II) Northington, Sallie N. May 14, 1811 Apr 3, 1873 (Footstone III) Northington, Robert S. Jan 3, 1840 Nov 30, 1850 (Footstone III) Northington, Felix Aug 27, 1802 Apr 13, 1892 (Footstone IV) Northington, William Aug 7, 1829 Feb 26, 1896 (Footstone V) If it is not, I will add a Henry Northington Cemetery or add these names to the list already posted. This should probably be added to the cemetery listings on the Montgomery Co website (no, they aren't my family either). My ancestor, John Parchman/Parchment appeared on grand juries in Robertson county, along with his brother, Philip, between 1796 and 1801. There is evidence they arrived in the area around Robertson County about 1787. One of their brothers, Jacob Parchment was scalped by Indians in West Virginia in 1785, probably while they were migrating from Pittsburgh to middle Tennessee. An older brother (Peter) stayed in the Pittsburgh area, where he had been an Indian Scout with Simon Girty and Samuel Brady, and also was wounded with an Indian arrow as a soldier in Ohio during the Revolutionary War. There is a record of a deed in Tennessee County for Isaiah Parchman, receiving the land grant of Edward Parchman as his heir. I am trying to determine the relationship of these Parchmans from North Carolina. John Parchman settled on Guice's Creek in Stewart County in about 1790 or 1801(?). He was on the grand jury of Stewart County in the first year of its formation in 1804. Both John and Philip are listed as members of Sumner County militias in 1794. Philip apparently was acquainted with David Crockett in middle Tennessee and also with Daniel Boone in the Pittsburgh area before the Revolution. John appears to have had 2 wives, perhaps Nancy Herod and Margaret ? It is not clear which one was the mother of each of the children and I am trying to trace the wives/mothers of the family. I wonder if his wife was related to the Herods of Kentucky. Any information would be appreciated. Gerry Parchman Trenton, New Jersey

Gladys, saw your posting on TNMONTGO's list. Do you know if Heretage Quest on Gen.com have any papers etc. for early Midwest history. I had subscribed to the program, but then couldn't find anything, so I dropped it. Probably didn't know what I was looking for. Hi Folks, There is a little known resource (at least it was to me) that some of our public libraries have which will allow you to access the Heritage Quest On-line site. In Texas, if your library does subscribe to the HQ On-line it is possible that they will provide you with a user name and a password that you can use at home on your computer. Not all of our libraries have this service but a surprising number of them do. As far as I know, it only applies to the Census records that HQ has available and some "source" books. Call your local library and see if they have this service available. There is no time limit on the service---at least so far. I think this is made available to Texas libraries through our State Library and then the service is passed on to us. We have to have a library card but that is all. If your library does not already subscribe to HQ perhaps you can suggest that they start. I may be able to save you some paper and ink when printing the Censuses out for your records. Jean Hancock in TX
