    1. Re: [TNMONTGO-L] Fw: TN Marriages from Ancestry.com
    2. Hi Pam, it's me again. This young lady's father died and she doesn't have much to get started with on her TATE line. Grandfather: FRANKLIN JACKSON TATE b. 5/27/1899 we figure he is about the youngest. His father: GEORGE WASHINGTON TATE married Amanda ? he was born abt. 1855-60 ? we figure he married c. 1875 and they had 11 children This isn't much to go on, but a start. Thanks again Bette

Great to make a connection! Not sure how much detail you want, but Sarah (Sally) Bryan was the d/o James Hardy Bryan and Lucy Hatch. Sally was b.7 Feb. 1805 and d. 2 Nov. 1867 (this from the Bryan family Bible). According to a chart that is part of the Lucy Catherine Bailey papers at the Tennessee State Library, she (Sally) married a Lafayette Copeland. There is a good chance, btw, that the bondsman could have been David Newton Kennedy (usually seen as D. N. Kennedy) who married into the Bailey/Bryan clan. I can send a report from my database if you'd like more -- do let me know. I would also be interested in info on Lafayette -- even if he's out on a limb tree-wise <g>. Best regards, Cary

    3. I have been reading this list for some time in hopes of discovering more about my son-in-law's ancestors. They do not seem to be related to anyone mentioned. So here is what I have about the above. Can anyone fill in any of the many blanks. R.C. Gardner (1816-1879) of Robertson Co, TN m. Lucy Copeland (1829-1878) >From TN Marriages: "Richard C. Gardner to Lucy C. Copeland issued 7 Feb 1849 bondsman: S. N. Kennedy m by L.C. Bryan, MG 8 Feb 1848 (sic) in Montgomery Co." Her parents were Fayette Copeland (originally from CT, he moved to TN, and then left for TX where he died in 1837) and his wife Sarah Bryan or Byant. One of those genealogy angels on the web gave me great information about Fayette and his line -- though I am still not sure why he abandoned/left his family in TN to go to Texas. However, I have nothing about Sarah except that she was living with R.C. and Lucy and moved to Nashville. It would seem from census information that she did not marry a second time. If anyone has any suggestions about the Bryans or if they also have someone who went to Texas in the 1830s perhaps we can share. Thanks, Myrna Hewitt

    2. Debbie, we corresponded a months or so ago.... Absolum may have been kin to "Randel" Ramey supposedly Randolph Ramey who also left Granville Co. before 1830 and lived in Montgomery Co. Tenn. I have not found Absolum on a census in Montgomery Co. Do you have any information as to what census he appears on. I believe that Benjamin, Randolph and Absolum were brothers.......can't prove it yet....as planning research trip early summer. 3. Cary, Thanks for the reply on my battle with the Battles, I just checked back and found Martha B. and Issac Dortch, the Martha Battle you have is the Aunt of the Martha I am talking about. The Martha you have is the brother of Major James Norfleet, father of the Martha Battle Norfleet that married David Allen in 1821 in Montgomery Co. TN. Like most families there is an overlapping of names. I was looking for David Bushrods Allen's father also David Allen in VA and was in the Rev War, I found over 6 David Allen's in the Rev War from VA. and now I can't find my David. I hope to find copies of the Tennessee Watchman in a book, I am told the marriage was written in there. Thanks again for your help, it is certainly appreciated. Bill Wallace, Radcliff, KY

    3. Martha Battle Norfleet and Isaac Dortch were my gg...grandparents. I'm pretty sure she did not remarry after he died, and if she had she would have been listed as Dortch. I think her brothers moved to Tennessee about the same time she did and would suppose that this Martha (married 1821) was a daughter of one of them.
