The TSLA now has Delayed Birth Certificates. These were applied for in the 1940s. As I understand it, the certificates for people born 1900-1913 are not available, but are listed in the index, which provides the county of birth, date of birth and the mother's first name. Certificates for persons, born prior to 1900 are available, if they applied. On an index that I copied yesterday on one line of my family, the earliest year of birth seen is 1872. This will be a big help in identifying some of the folks born between 1880 and 1900, if they applied for a delayed birth certificate. Mary
Is there an Internet site with this information? According to this mornings' Leaf-Chronicle, there is a new web site that will probably be of interest before long. The site is a map of Montgomery County and will eventually include historic cemetary locations. I admit that I've been playing with the map for the past couple of hours-----I kept zooming in until I was 20' from the roof of my house! Yes, it has aerial photos and you can zoom in/out or move them. (I wasn't home when the photos were taken over my house because there are no vehicals in my driveway----but I know about when it was done because I can actually see where the gas line was run up the road a few years ago.) I'm going back to "playing" with the map. (I think I've "visit" some friends!) I can't wait until they get this fully "up and running"! If you want to "visit" anyone in Montgomery County, the site is at http://gisweb.apsu.edu or check out this morning's Leaf Chronicle for more information at www.theleafchronicle.com Sandy Ellis

You will note that DNA is need on several of the service men. That is DNA from a living person who descends from the same blood line. The message below can also be posted along with the request. As a former service member I am doing everything within my power to get the message out. Feel free to modify, abbreviate, or alter this to best suit your needs. Thank you. Sincerely, Harold Keisling, Cookeville TN ---------------------------------message follows--------------------------------- The Army has some unidentified remains of service members from North Korea. Since DNA data was unknown in the 1950s there was no profile on these personnel. The Army can now conduct DNA on the remains, but they have an incomplete database of DNA form close family members with which to compare. There are several on the list for the state of Tennessee and some may be from your county. Please look at the list and see if any from you county are annotated with needing DNA "Yes". If find one, look under DNA and see what relative is acceptable. Then find a relative in your area that meets this criterion and send their name, address or phone number to the following contact at Department of the Army. There is not guarantee that the missing service member from your county will be found, but thru DNA testing the Army can confirm or eliminate him as a name for the remains that they have. This is an important service that we can provide to our fellow citizens. We owe this much to our service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country and in the name of freedom. Let us resolve to get all of these needed DNA for our state submitted. Steps to follow: 1. Look at the state List and find people from your county 2. copy and paste the service member name or jot it down on paper so that you use the same spelling when you go to the DNA database. 3. Go to DNA database and see if they need DNA, if not then the Army has what data they need. If they need DNA then you need to find a good DNA source. 4. Look under DNA on one of the pages and it will tell you what is acceptable. 5. Develop a list of siblings, offsprings etc with addresses/phone number and send them to the e-mail address or call them into the 1-800 number. 6. The Army has its own procedure for following up and getting the DNA samples. Hi, List Looking for parents of Olive (Ollie) A. HODGES JOHNSON. Ollie lived in Montgomery. She was b. ca 1885. Her husband was Oscar Douglas JOHNSON, sheriff 1920-1926. They lived in Hickory PT. Their dau. Hazel m. a RINEHART and taught school. Also dau Sarah, sons: Oscar D, Jr. , Julian, William. My aunts tell me Ollie was the cousin to my grandmother, Onie COAKLEY. So possibly her mother was an AVERITT or WARDEN. My aunt has an Hicklory Pt Elementary school photo from 193? that I need to submit to Mont site. It shows alot of the JOHNSON clan. Hope someone connects to this family. TIA, Jeanne

Hey there, don't forget the Tennessee 49th -- here's a good site for names of a lot of Montgomery County soldiers who were part of this regiment TNGenWeb Project Tennesseans in the Civil War... Cary (great grand daughter of Col. James Edmund Bailey of the Tn 49th)
I came across a great web site today with some information about the 14th Tenn. Regimental Army. It lists all the battles they fought in, the officers, and the best yet, a roster of the men in all the companies of the 14th. I saw many, many names that have been asked about on these county lists. Address is http://www.fred.net/stevent/14TN/14tn.html This might shorted a look for some ancestor and his role in the Civil War. Deanna
Hi Sandy and List, I sent a msg to the Leaf this morning. Received a reply that they will be adding an obit archive in the near future. Jeanne
Are any of the ALLEN'S living in Montgomery Co. TN descendents of David Allen and Apphia (Lewis) Allen of Cumberland, Halifax and Pittsylvania Co. VA. I am applying for admission into the SAR through David Alllen of Pittsy Co.VA. Rev War Soldier and am trying to get documented proof of the names of his children. David died in 1800 in Pittsy Co. VA and I am not sure if Apphia (Lewis) Allen remarried or migrated to Montgo Co. TN with son David Bushrod Allen and died in TN. David Bushrod Allen married Martha Battle Norfleet in Montgo Co. TN on 17 Apr 1821 amd they later migrated to Coahoma Co. MS. I couldn't find a will of David or Apphia in Pittsy Co. VA. I don't know when or where Apphia died. If I knew when and where she died I would try that county for a will. Bill Wallace, Radcliff, KY
