Notes for BENJAMIN AUSTIN HARKINS: Benjamin Austin Harkins served as a private in the Company commanded by Captain Samuel Patterson of the Georgia Militia commanded by Col. Stuart in the "war with the Cherokee Indians" in 1838. He volunteered at Blairsville, Georgia about the 1st of May 1838 for a term of 6 months and was honorably discharged at Blairsville, Georgia on the 14th of July 1838. Benjamin Austin Harkins is buried on a knoll near Coopers Creek that overlooks where his homestead was. I am not sure where information on two children of B. A. Harkins and his first wife came from. More than likely, this information came from my great-aunt, Marvine Towe Gilbreath. The two daughters, Emiline and Avaline Luthrilda are the two I found in notes I had made at some point in time.
