War pension application of Francis Mosier (Moser) filed on 20 Sep 1820 from Monroe Co. TN he stated after the Rev. War he lived in Frederick Co. MD for 3 years. He then returned to Surry Co. NC for 2 years where he had enlisted in the NC Line, moved to Lincoln Co. NC for 30 years, moved to Greene Co. TN for 1 year, moved to Jefferson Co. TN for 10 years and in 1830 he moved to Monroe Co. TN. He said he was born in Frederick Co. MD in 1763 and married Polly Sipes in 1820. His widow also filed an application in 1853 and indicated he died in 1836 in Monroe Co. TN. > > >From this info I have been able to trace this Francis Moser back to the Leonard Moser family at Graceham MD where the birth of him and his five brothers and one sister are recorded at Graceham Moravian Church. The widow of his older brother Michael also filed a pension application from Stokes Co. NC in 1839 and provided info on Michael and Samuel who served in the MD line and Henry who were the sons of Leonard Moser of Frederick Co. MD. From the Graceham records are the dates of birth: Michael b. Ag 1, 1759, Samuel b. Ap 11, 1761, Francis b. Mr 15, 1763, Christian b. Ja 5, 1765, Anna Eliz. b. Ja 30, 1767, Henry b. Se 12, 1769 and Joseph b. Jl 21, 1772. The communion records at St. James Church have Fransz Moser next to Peter Moser on Sept. 1816 which fits into the time line from the application if the end of the war is 1781. The communion records also have a Frank Mohser and wife on April 1818. This fits if the end of the war is taken as 1783 which is more likely since it f! > i! > ts closer to the date of movement to Jefferson Co. TN in 1820. Also in the records are Peter Moser and w. Magdalena (1813 to 1820), Johannes Moser and wife Barbara (1816 to 1820), Wilhelm Moser (1818 communion), Jacob Moser (1818 communion) and Elisabetha Moser (1814 member). Are these children of Francis Moser? There records of birth are probably in Lincoln Co. NC where Francis lived prior to coming to TN. Has anyone checked this out? > > A history of the Leonard Moser family appears in "Monocacy and Catoctin" vol.III by C.E. Schildknecht p.64-65. He arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Adventure in 1732 and settled in N. Maryland. Could he be related to the Paul Moser of N. Alsace mentioned in A.K. Burgert's book "Eighteenth Century Emigrants from the Northern Alsace to America"? He had sons named Francis and Michael also and arrived in America about 1729. He was from Wingen-sur-Moder farther west of where the Nease family was from in N. Alsace. > > Any info on this family would be appreciated. > > > ==== TNGREENE Mailing List ==== > Search the Greene County Website for your ancestors: > http://cgi.rootsweb.com/surhelp-bin/srchsite.pl?site=TNGREENE >
