This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RgB.2ACE/664.1 Message Board Post: The place you refer to is about six miles east of Sweetwater, on the Vonore road, there was nothing there ,but a general store and probably a post office in it, and a church, a cemetery is in back of the old store building, I think the last owner of the store was a Curtis. Beyond there at Bat Creek, several years ago I think there had been some Indian artifacts found.
Prehistoric artifacts are common across all of Monroe County. Rockville was the historic home of the Samuel Johnston and Walker families, among others. There were not any Cherokee settlements in this area in the early 19th century.
