    1. [TNMONROE] JORDAN/PHILLIPS
    2. JORDAN/PHILLIPS. Looking for any info on Elizabeth “Lou” PHILLIPS, born circa 1810 in South Carolina. Married an Irishman named Tom JORDAN. Their first child, Emalline, was born in North Carolina in 1835. The rest of their children were born in or near Roane Co., TN and the youngest, James Thomas JORDAN, was born 1850 in Bledsoe Co. Lou and Tom were my g-g-grandparents. My grandfather, James Henry JORDAN, b. 1877 in Roane Co., TN, told me that his grandfather, “Tom” JORDAN came from Ireland. Grandpa said, “He was a redheaded Irishman, with a big red beard, and spoke with a brogue so thick I could barely understand a word he said.” Tom was not home much. He could have been away working or maybe he was a scout for the government, or even a soldier pushing westward. Or, he could have been a bum. He came home about once or twice a year. I’m unable to trace the lineage of Tom JORDAN and Lou PHILLIPS because the above is all the info I have. I do not know where in SC Lou was born or exactly when. I don’t know when Tom arrived in the USA or exactly where in Ireland he came from. When did they marry and where? When Lou and children were living in Roane or Bledsoe Co., there were other PHILLIPS living nearby, so I suspect they were relatives of Lou. Lou's daughter, Emaline JORDAN, married Benjamin QUALLS in Roane Co. I’ve been posting on Rootsweb, and to TNROANE@rootsweb.com and TNBLEDSOE@rootsweb.com without any success. I’m hoping that someone out there has some info on these two ancestors. Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide a hint or link to my past. Karlene

What a rascal he was (grin) I descend through his son Pinkney Burton Gentry, one of his children with Susan Ivey, his 2nd wife. I have 3 children in my files for David Gentry with Mary Ann Mullins-Adaline, Margaret and Nancy Ann. From what I have found, David passed away and Mary Ann married John Gentry (David's brother) and they had at least 6 children. Is that correct? I would love to share info with you. She knows of the 3 "Biblical" brothers, Shadrack, Abednigo, and Meshack, but we don't have Ollie's ancestry back to one of the brothers. Would appreciate any data that might help. I'm going to search on the web and see if I can find an ancestry database to fill in Ollie's data back to the main line in VA. Sarge

The name of the church now is Hilltop Baptist Church. As for the records, I am sure that someone out there knows about them. I am sorry I do not know anything about if the church had an orphanage. But more than likely it did not. It is a very small church in the rural area of Monroe Co. just outside the McMinn Co. line. >From the Monroe Co. Heritage Book; The first church was a Lutheran Church and was built in 1853. Land was donated by John Kinser a Lutheran. They had a German speaking minister in the beginning. You might write to the Church and ask them; Hillstop Baptist Church Old Athens Rd. Madisonville, TN 37354
