    3. Thanks to a tremendous effort and lots of work on behalf of Lynn McConkey who abstracted the deeds and to Joyce Reece who with many great volunteers did the typing we now have Abstracts of Book N, pgs. 364-663 and Book O, pgs 1-495. 2. Horace Griffitts
    3. John Stanfield (c1806- ) and his wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Griffitts (c1807- ) seem to have disappeared from the Monroe area; their children were William (c1831), Mary (c1833), James (c1836), John (c1839), George (c1840) Josephine (1843-1854--buried at Philadelphia), Samuel (c1846), and Susannah (1849-1856--buried at Philadelphia). John may have been a brother to Martha Payne Stanfield who married George Martin Griffitts. Can anyone tell me where they may have relocated? Horace Griffitts

    2. Shane S.Ratledge
    3. I've typed and uploaded the following additional letters on my website: Rev. Thomas Benton McCurdy's letter of June 8, 1913 from Athens, TN Easter Anne (McCurdy) Stiles letter of Jan. 10, 1927 from Riceville, TN Both of these people are siblings. Rev. T. B. McCurdy is buried at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Monroe CO, TN; Easter (McCurdy) Stiles is buried at Eleazer Methodist Church Cemetery, Monroe CO, TN. Her letter reveals how nearly impossible it was to send a child through high school early on. Hope you enjoy! Sandra Ratledge

    1. [TNMONROE-L] Henry McCurdy's 1870 letter
    2. Shane S.Ratledge
    3. I've added a transcript of Henry McCurdy's 15 Aug. 1870 letter from Notchey Creek, Monroe CO, TN to my website. He is writing a daughter by his first marriage and on the back another to his son Thomas Benton McCurdy. He mentions his daughter Easter Ann who married Aurelius Shelton Stiles, son of William McConnell Stiles of Mt. Vernon, Monroe CO, TN. Henry McCurdy died almost nine years later and is buried at Hickory Grove Cemetery. David Stiles gave me a copy of this many years ago. To find the letter and other new things I've added go to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~snipper/new.html or for it and a listing of other primary sources go to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~snipper/kinfolks/sources.com Sandra Ratledge "Kinfolks in the Knobs" "Valley River Relatives" "Appalachian Ancestors"

    1. [TNMONROE-L] website update
    2. Shane S.Ratledge
    3. My websites called "Kinfolks in the Knobs," "Valley River Relatives," and "Appalachian Ancestors" have been updated. I've added more info on forty-eight previously existing family groups and made links to two additional family groups. Also, I've added a couple more photos. Mostly I've worked on Monroe and McMinn CO, TN families, but some migrated to Hopkins CO, TX and other areas in E. TX. It's much too icy cold here to do much of anything but surf the net in our warm homes! To find what's new go to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~snipper/new.html Hope you enjoy! I really suggest you read the introduction to this page once you get there and before you look at the spread sheet because you could miss something important about these records. This covers an area in East Tenn. and western NC, mostly Union pensioners. Joy http://www.tngennet.org/monroe/rbarker.htm [email protected] Monroe Co. Tn.
