    1. [TNMONROE-L] children of Isaac Lindsey d. 1861
    2. Ray Ezell
    3. The following excerpts were taken from Monroe Co. Tennessee Records 1820-1870, vol. II >From Monroe County Court Minutes, May 1861 (377) RJ White app. Adm. of Isaac Lindsey >From Monroe County Court Minutes, May 1862 (479) David M. Lindsey app. Gdn. to David, Mary E., Martha, and Tennessee Lindsey, minor orphans >From Monroe County Court Minutes, August 1862 David Lindsey resigns and Matilda Lindsey is appointed as Gdn. to Martha J. and Tennessee Lindsey >From Monroe Co. Deed Book R, 2 December 1867 (line 663) Chancery Court: M.L. Phillips vs. GW Lindsey and RJ White, Adms. of Isaac Lindsey, dec'd; undivided 1/7 interest of GW Lindsey in Lands of Isaac Lindsey dec'd >From Monroe County Court Minutes, August 1868 (552) Petition to Sell land; David M. and Isaac Lindsey, 3rd, vs. Thomas, George, and Ozias Rhea, Matilda, David, Mary E. Martha, and Tennessee Lindsey, heirs of Isaac Lindsey. It appears that Isaac Lindsey (born 1783) died ca. May 1861 and left several minor children: Martha J., Tennessee, David, and Mary. Isaac's son, David M. Lindsey, was appointed gardian to them but was relieved of the care of Martha J. and Tennessee Lindsey by a Matilda Lindsey......Who exactly is Matilda Lindsey and how does she fit in with the Lindsey family?? In Aug. 1868 ...David M. and Big Ike Lindsey (son and grandson of the deceased Isaac Lindsey) were litigated by Thomas, George W. Matilda, David, Mary E., Martha, and Tennessee Lindsey....they apparently were heirs of Isaac. Can anyone provide any further information on these heirs of Isaac Lindsey? Were all of them his children, were some of them grandchildren that he named in his will, or that may have been living in the household at the time of his death? Lastly, who was the mother of the minor orphaned children of Isaac. Isaac had a wife, Mary, that was born in ca. 1787 and it doesnt seem possible that she was bearing children up into the mid-late 1840's or beyond .....did Isaac mary another woman?? if so, who was she? I would appreciate any ideas that anyone may have....I have other specific Lindsey information if anyone is interested........ 1. [TNMONROE-L] marriage of Isaac Lindsey, Sr. and Martha Mull
    2. Ray Ezell
    3. Jan 25, 1865 Isaac Lindsey, Sr. to Martha Mull, by JR Burchfield, J.P. does anyone know if the above marriage refers to the Isaac Lindsey born ca. 1831 in Campbell County Va. He was the son of Isaac Lindsey, born 1783/ died ca. May 1861. in Monroe Co. TN. The elder Isaac was married to a Mary ? b. ca. 1787. I do not have a death date for this Isaac Lindsey, but he did spend his later years in a veterans home in Ft. Leavinworth, Kansas. If this is the one, then he is also the Uncle of Big Ike Lindsey of Povo TN (famed postmaster, whiskey distiller, store owner, CW vet, etc.). 1. [TNMONROE-L] Lyttleton letters
    2. Joyce G. Reece
    3. Thanks to Judy White ([email protected]) I am pleased to announce that a fantastic resource is now available online www.accessgenealogy.com/lyttelton.htm These are letters originating from FORT LOUDON during the period of 1756 - 1760-61 to Governor Lyttleton of South Carolina. The historical data and genealogical information to be learned from these letters is fascinating. Fort Loudon was the fort built by the British to act as a supply point for the Overhill Cherokee (of East Tennessee). Fort Loudon stood (stands) in what is now Monroe County, Tennessee. Anyone researching the Cherokee will be interested in reading these documents...if you really want to learn you will. These letters came to me courtesy of the staff of Fort Loudon State Park and are well worth the time taken to read them. Many thanks to Judy and her dedicated staff. BTW, access genealogy is a complete FREE site and available to everyone. Joyce Gaston Reece

I am trying to locate my Smith kin....my great, great grandmother was Louisa Smith Barfield, daughter of James Smith, born: abt. 1791 in North Carolina. Louisa (Eliza) was born in Buncombe Co., North Carolina, abt. 1832. Her mother's name was Mary. Louisa married James Barfield. They eventually moved to Monroe Co TN to be near kin folk. My great grandfather was James Burgin Barefield, who was the daddy to my grandfather, John Sidney Bearfield. Louisa is listed as Eliza on some of the census reports. Do any of these names appear familiar to you? I noticed you also have a Eliza in your notes. That is why I decided to ask! Thanks, Charlotte
