I got a list of names from M/M Glen Crowder and will send them a letter tomorrow with more specific info. They were at the Blount Co, TN Crowder family reunion. I am still trying to prove that our Joseph is the son of Overstreet. I have recently sent to TN for his death certificate.

My husband's family ties in with Juda Margaret Crowder's husband A.J. Saunders. His second wife was a Mason. Also Juda's daughter Josephine married a Mason. I have the last name of Nancy Elizabeth listed as Garrick instead of Harrick. My info came from one of the descendants of Juda Crowder. It was from their family Bible. I have not done the research so I just took their word. Do you have proof of the name HARRICK? There are others who research this line, hopefully they will answer your query.

Totally Copied from "Vonore, Yesterday and Today." Page 451...... Fear is a terrible thing to live with, as can be seen in the life of Moultrie Jones. It all started back in 1900, during the second trial for the McGhee-Howard shooting and killing, a trial that was to take place at the Monroe County Courthouse. Moultrie's father, Charles Jones, was unarmed and standing on the porch of the Clew Hicks Hotel when a fight broke out between the Howards and the McGhees. When Jones saw that guns had been drawn he held up his hands and shouted, "peace." That did not stop the shooting, however, and Charles and his brother, Josh, were caught in (page 452 begins) a crossfire between Howard and the McGhees. Both men were shot. Charles was killed; Josh did not die, but carried a bullet in his chest until he died in the 1920's while living in Knoxville. In 1902 Moultrie took his gun to W.R. (Robert) Hughes for repairs. He told Hughes that he had to use the gun once more and he had to be sure it would fire. Because his gun had been hanging up, he decided to trade it in for a new one. From Carrie Hughes we learned that the gun that Jones traded is still in the possession of the Hughes family. Later that year Josh and Moultrie traveled to Knoxville to seek out Tom Howard, who was then on the police force. A gun fight erupted at a Knoxville shooting gallery. It is said that "Josh Jones shot first from outside the gallery through the north window, hitting Tom. Moultrie continued shooting after Tom either ran or fell behind the counter and died." Josh and Moultrie turned themselves into the police. The verdict at their trial was "not guilty." They were free from the law but not from fear. Moultrie Jones built a house in Vonore that had a unique alarm system. Bells and other warning devices were installed around the house. Jones always had a holstered gun strapped to his body and never left the house after dark. He lived in Vonore until he died in 1956." Subject: TN soldiers buried in Confederate cemetery, Barnesville, Georgia Dear Ones, PLEASE! I need help...I wrote to TN State Archives & received NO DATA, but did receive a form letter...was MOST DISAPPOINTED in their lack of interest in assisting us with a proper and correct memorial to the TN men who died for Southern freedom. Our data comes from two sources-one from UDC rec'ds. (with many errors in spelling, companies & reg't.s)& one from recently received Confederate medical records for the five hospitals which were operated here in Barnesville. From these two sources we have a compsit list of knwon dead from TN. There are fifteen men from TN buried in Barnesville which we have names for...our request is that someone who is willing to look these men up will help us with the following information on each soldier: Name (correct spelling), company, reg't., date & location of enlistment (county/town), length of enlistment, rank at enlistment & at time of death, if wounded, where & date & date of death & name of hospital. All of these soldiers were in hospitals here from March thru Sept.,1864. Our purpose is to order tombstones for the Confederate Cemetery. You may find this William Giles is the William on the 1830 Monroe Co. census. Later he was in Mc Minn and then in Bradley with son Benjamin. James Calvin filled out a questionaire after his Civil War days that is interesting. I think his wife's name was Olive. Is that right?? I'm working with olde peabrain here but I think that's right. As far as anyone knows he was not related to Thomas Robert* or Holloway Giles lines of Monroe Co. Holloway came down from Cocke Co. Tn & Thomas R. came across the mountains on the Unicoi turnpike from SC. There was another William & Sina Giles in Polk but not the same people. They came down from upper E. TN. Hope this helps. Blessed Be, Jo Ann Giles
